J.H. Posted February 3 Posted February 3 The Chelsea Green thing where she gave that family a trip to the Rumble kinda kills her as a heel for me. She should've shown the tickets and tore them up on camera. That's what a herl would do! James
TheVileOne Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Everyone said Omos was going to show up at the Rumble, and he did not. He claimed he was going back to WWE. I doubt we ever see him there again. Dude should've stayed in Japan where he was having success. Relinquishing his GHC tag title was idiocy.
Curt McGirt Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Cena saying "I'm not doing what's best business for me, but what's best for this industry" is basically saying "I am what's best for business" which is... totally heel. But this is WWE. It's totally face. 3
odessasteps Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Is it too obvious to just mean "I'm putting someone over at Mania" ?

If the office did that to him and has no intention of using him, that's also idiocy and promotional malpractice.
Hamhock Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I just want Cena to tap out in his final match in December. Imagine the heat for a heel to be the one who makes Cena submit/quit; he could then wear/sell parody Never Give Up t-shirts, the whole shebang. 5

James I feel like they've pretty much given up on her as a proper heel, and now she's Donald Duck--someone who you are supposed to want to watch touch the stove and suffer for it, but love anyway. (At least that's what I hope they're going for, because that's how I feel about her) 3
Niners Fan in CT Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Ivan Putski could have been a big star in WWF if pushed consistently. Huge jacked up tough Polish guy in New York City. Crowds loved him. 1
odessasteps Posted February 7 Posted February 7 What's funny is that in Houston, he was more popular doing the Mighty Igor type character than when he came back as Polish Power Ivan Putski.
just drew Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Hot take; Zack Ryder was never going to be Hulk Hogan, but he could've absolutely been Tito Santana if he wasn't booked spitefully.

He'd feud with tons of the top heels especially in the 70's and early 80's. There's a Putski vs Zybysko match from Philly in 1980 that's one of my favorite matches I've seen. I wish it was on YouTube. I have it on an unlabeled DVD in a tub in the crawl space. So it may as well be lost forever. 3

He was the #2 baby face behind Backlund for about 2 years between 81 and 83, he’d beat the heel who finished their feud with Backlund and were on their way out, plus he’d get his own feuds from time to time. He got pushed down a notch or two after Snuka turned and Rocky Johnson showed up. They couldn’t really push him higher than that or give him the IC title, since his matches sucked, I can say that due to seeing a ton of them during that timeframe. 1

It's the Best Ivan Putski Match of All Time. A violent Texas Death Match in front of a rabid crowd in Philly. Kal Rudman and Duck Graham killing it... Edited February 7 by Johnny Sorrow 1
Niners Fan in CT Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I've been watching a lot of '83-'84 WWF and the crowds just go apeshit for everything Putski is doing out there, I just saw him and Slaughter tear the house down earlier today, so that's the background of my take. It seems like there was still an opportunity there to push him further. Of course Hulkamania was about to take over as well.. 1
Johnny Sorrow Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) And Ivan was old then, and even more limited than he already was. Those were the years I became a wrestling fan for life, and you're right. Ivan was over and felt like a superhero to 13-14 year old me, especially alongside Atlas and Johnson. He stuck around on the undercards there up to 1986, which always surprises me. Polish Power! Mister TV Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I decided to look up the Ivan Putski matches I saw in person at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena back in the day. Sadly none of the Civic Arena shows were recorded, would have loved to see all of these again. June 18, 1982 - Ivan Putski pinned Greg Valentine at 14:00 when Valentine failed a powerslam, with Putski falling on top for the win. This was on the first live show I ever went to, don't remember that much of this bout since the Backlund vs. Blackjack Mulligan Texas Death Match earlier that night was bonkers, pretty long for the final match of the card. August 20, 1982 - Ivan Putski (sub. for Tony Atlas) pinned WWF Tag Team Champion Mr. Saito at 4:50 with a small package. I remember the heat Saito got that night, with it being less than 5 minutes assuming it was mostly Putski's shtick. Earlier that night Putski was the special referee for Snuka vs. Backland, he cheated by fast counting when Superfly's shoulders were barley on the mat, that's when I started to hate him, Snuka might have been a heel but all us kids loved him and wanted to see him win the belt. October 8, 1982 - Superstar Billy Graham defeated Ivan Putski via count-out at 17:43. Yikes, that's really long for those two, thinking we went on a restroom/concession stand run during it. December 10, 1982 - Chief Jay Strongbow, Jules Strongbow, & Ivan Putski defeated Mr. Fuji, Mr. Saito, & Capt. Lou Albano in a Best 2 out of 3 falls match, 2-1. I remember this match like it was a month ago, the heat was insane when Albano was in the ring and people went nuts anytime the Captain did his half assed selling. June 24, 1983 - Jimmy Snuka & Ivan Putski defeated WWF Tag Team Champions the Wild Samoans in a Best 2 out of 3 falls match, 2-0 at 11:45; fall #1: the Samoans were disqualified at 7:20; fall #2: Snuka pinned Afa at 4:25 with the splash off the top; due to the disqualification result in the first fall, the title did not change hands. I remember everyone being pissed when they announced the title couldn't change hands via the first fall DQ. This card was also a sell-out due to the Muraco vs. Rocky Johnson IC Title match in a cage, that's how over those two were in the Steel City, looks like Backlund was relegated to a C show in Brooklyn, New York that night. August 26, 1983 - Ivan Putski pinned Ivan Koloff at 24:50 with the Polish Hammer. Ugh why was this so long, most likely another trip to the bathroom then coming back and being annoyed it was still going on. Koloff was a total bore during this WWF run. December 16, 1983 - Sgt. Slaughter defeated Ivan Putski via count-out at 15:59. I remember me and my cousin cheering heel Sarge and it pissed of some hillbilly sitting behind us, my uncle almost got into a fight with him. February 24, 1984 - Ivan Putski defeated Don Muraco via count-out at 9:26 when Muraco left ringside after being hit with the Polish Hammer. I remember Muraco doing tons of stalling and good old heel stuff, place went nuts when Putski hit the Polish Hammer. This was also the Hogan's first title defense in Pittsburgh so it was a sellout. March 23, 1984 - Ivan Putski pinned Butcher Vachon at 3:00 with the Polish Hammer. Thankfully this was short. April 27, 1984 - Paul Orndorff, Roddy Piper, & David Schultz defeated Ivan Putski, Rocky Johnson, & Tony Atlas at 14:20. Piper's heat was off the charts, kind of remember Atlas being in the ring 90% of the time. May 25, 1984 - David Schultz defeated Ivan Putski via count-out at 7:25. Thinking that their styles didn't really mesh. November 9, 1984 - Ivan Putski pinned Mr. Fuji (sub. for Kamala) at 5:30 with the Polish Hammer. I wonder if they ever planned to have Kamala in the match, there's no way they'd have Putski job clean to him or mess with Kamala's push by going with a screwy finish. Totally remember this match, it was almost all Fuji doing the hiding the salt shenanigans, Putski hit him with the Polish Hammer and everyone went crazy. February 23, 1985 - Ivan Putski pinned Terry Gibbs at 5:17 with the Polish Hammer. Was basically a squash match, but look at this card! WWF @ Pittsburgh, PA – Civic Arena – February 23, 1985 (17,500) The Cobra pinned Salvatore Bellomo at 7:11 Dick Murdoch pinned Rick McGraw at 8:35 Nikolai Volkoff pinned Swede Hanson at 10:20 Bret Hart pinned Jerry Valiant at 9:25 Ivan Putski pinned Terry Gibbs at 5:17 with the Polish Hammer Bruno & David Sammartino defeated Paul Orndorff & Bobby Heenan via disqualification at 15:00 when Orndorff brought a chair into the ring and attacked Bruno with it; Gorilla Monsoon then came into the ring and chopped Orndorff to make him stop, with David then clearing Orndorff & Heenan from the ring with the chair Johnny V pinned Tony Garea at 10:59 The Junkyard Dog defeated Roddy Piper via disqualification at 3:10 when Piper choked JYD with his own chain and shoved the referee Don Muraco (w/ Mr. Fuji) pinned George Wells at 8:40 Andre the Giant pinned Ken Patera at 4:25 8
SirSmUgly Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) The John Cena spinner version of the U.S. Championship is great, actually, and the spinner WWE Championship is, too. Love 'em both. That's how you design a gaudy wrestling belt in a good way. Edited February 12 by SirSmUgly 2
