No wonder the audience thought he was a nerd, he was coming to the ring to a song about what a wife guy his teammate was. ok, but what if a heel came out to a theme song that was explicitly about a different wrester's wife/girlfriend? THAT would be some heat. 2
zendragon Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Lord Rick Rude should have done that, even feuded with Steamboat in WWF 4
BobbyWhioux Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Rude being the catalyst for an all time Strange Bedfellows tag team of Ricky Steamboat & Jake Roberts. Would've been fun. 1

DangerMark Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Jeff Jarrett is an excellent undercarder, and then gets worse the further up the card he goes. There's your hot take. 1

BloodyChamp Posted January 19 Posted January 19 ^ that is awesome and the fact that it probably makes all those grunge or goth gimmick wrestlers who took themselves so seriously so mad makes it more awesome. Well done parody.
Nice Guy Eddie Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Damn it, now I'm going to have Steven Flow stuck in my head all day. 3

That Survivor Series team, and WWF’s “all babyfaces are pals” booking, really pissed me off. Steamboat was teaming with not one, but two guys who weren’t even a year removed from trying to end his life. 4

BobbyWhioux Posted January 20 Posted January 20 well, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, so I guess if Honky Tonk Man can be such an asshole that Savage, Steamboat, and Roberts were willing to team up to beat his ass, then perhaps Sting is such a virtuous soul of pure babyface essence that Rude and Roberts just had to gang up to destroy him. 1

That was just common "enemy of my enemy is my friend" stuff and it was all over the place in the 1980s. The most egregious is that not even a month after the Last Battle of Atlanta and a near-two year feud, Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer teamed to face the Road Warriors.
odessasteps Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Sometimes, that makes sense. The new big bad is so evil/strong that the hero needs to team up the one person he knows that can deal with the m and that's his former rival. But I think that doesn't always work. Had Magnum teamed up with Tully to take on the Russians, I dontbthink that would have worked. 3

Ramo2653 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I was working on some spreadsheets yesterday while at work and I just ran the WCW Slam Jam playlist and I wasn't aware of a few things: 1. Some of these songs were stretched out way more than I thought, I wasn't aware of the intros for Sting, Rude and Johnny B. Badd's songs. 2. Steamboat's song is insane and someone needs to just sing it to him next time he pops up backstage in AEW. 3. Whatever court case WWE settled with the guy about the rights to the songs must not have been in their favor because I'd love these songs in the WWE games. 1
Technico Support Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Props to Justin Robert’s for keeping Slam Jam alive in his own way via his style of introducing Dustin (“WELL THEY CALL HIM THE NATURAL!”) Edited January 25 by Technico Support 3

just drew Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I've got a hot take, and maybe it's out of line, but thats what this thread is for; If I were TK, I'd be taking WWE to task every chance I get for the lack of African American men in the main roster main event scene. On Dynamite you had Hurt Syndicate, Private Party, Mercedes Monet, Swerve, & Ricochet. AR Fox too. Meanwhile, while nxt is and continues to be wonderfully diverse, the top of the main roster is less colorful than Donald Trump's cabinet. Make Triple H keep answering that question with that dogshit "I don't see color." The war AEW is losing the most decisively is the PR war, and there's no excuse for Trips to keep getting a free pass. I know some people are gonna say "but Bianca and Jade and Naomi!" First of all, that's some midcard ass-shit at the moment. Secondly, Bianca is in a freefall in relation to where she was 2 years ago. There are what, 11 championships on the main roster? How many are held by people of color? Nakamura? Anyone else? That's an issue and it's an area Tony Khan should absolutely be on the offensive on... 1
Godfrey Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I hear you on this and frankly I'm not convinced there isn't something odd going on with HHH too, especially with notably race sensitive comedians Shane Gillis and Tony Hinchcliffe showing up on TV last night. I think the WWE's counter would be that they highlight Samoan and Latino wrestlers in the main events regularly and they are building Black stars for the future so they're in the clear (not my stance but I think they would say that). I wonder if they just don't have That Guy right now. Letting the Hurt Business go was dumb, no question about it, but wasn't that a Vince decision? In terms of the current roster, I'd argue someone like Montez Ford could be elevated with a little effort, maybe Carmelo Hayes too if he can find another gear plus Trick Williams and Oba Femi are on the way, but honestly I'm open to hearing who you think is ready to take that spot right now 1
