@EVA nailed it when he said the Cody/Velvet/Shaq/Jade match was like two separate matches.  As much as I kind of dislike intergender, I like mixed tags where you have to tag out if the other gender tags in even less.  It ruins the flow and you get stuff like Shaq tagging out and Cody running to his corner on his knees to tag out which looked ridiculous for a babyface.

I'm glad Jade hit her finisher!  She spammed taunts to fill her finisher bar the entire match so I'm glad it didn't go to waste.  It's like she watched early NXT Dana Brooke to prepare for this bout and was like, "she's good, but she should be taunting more."

Kudos the the 5th and 6th men in the match, Bryce Remsburg and whoever the director was.  Remsburg was directing traffic out there like crazy and the director was perfectly cutting on some really questionable strikes from both Jade and Velvet.

Cody's Hogan/Andre bodyslam moment was worse than the original WM3 slam.  Shaq earned points in my book for the Brodie Lee taunt before the power bomb.  Sweet.  That table bump was really well done, too.

Overall not a bad match at all.  I didn't think about the fact that they probably rehearsed and did all they could to make the match absolutely foolproof.

Shaq was too big for the ambulance and they visibly had him pull his feet up.  I LOL'd

Cody's tights look like he's wearing a codpiece.

Loved seeing Shaq lose his shit and beat up Billy Gunn's Silly Sons

Velvet murdered Cody on that Orihara Moonsault and missed Jade entirely

Overall, the match really over-delivered and everyone got together to spotlight strengths and hide weaknesses.  It wasn't Big Show/Mayweather but it was good.

Other thoughts:

Some nostalgia is fine.  Too much nostalgia and you start to look bush league. Tully?  Fine.  Tully, JJ, Arn, old belts, 4 Horsemen hand signs, Tony Schiavone, and the an appearance by Big Show, all in one segment, and then Sting later, is way too much.  Christ, JJ almost fell getting into the ring and they cut away to avoid showing him struggling to get back out of the ring.

To that end, I sincerely hope the big surprise isn't Kurt Angle, Christian, or some other old WWE guy.  AEW has enough of them and they're getting too dangerously close to TNA territory.  Remember when the sticking point for the Heyman to TNA discussions was that he only wanted one legend on the roster and Dixie wanted them all?  Yeah.

Who wants Shawn Spears back?

It's like Spears read this board where and saw us making fun of him for having 20 gimmicks and said OH YEAH WELL FUCK YOU I'M BLEACHING MY HAIR TOO

I joined the DVDVR MB for the first time in September 2005. Some of my favourite times include March Madness, the Batman Begins and The Dark Knight threads, the Sin Cara penis shirt, how I started the GIF reactions to THAT Richards/Edwards Superplex spot in May 2016, WWE 2K20 mocking and @El Gran Gordi nailing Shawn Spears with what he said about his shirt that Heartless needed the r removing. That was clever.

- "No more BS" seems like an unnecessary shot from a guy who the WWE gave so much to. One legend who has just been signed announcing they have just signed another legend is a questionable move. I am calling RVD as the surprise

"No More BS" makes sense as a catchphrase for somebody who's gonna imitate a reporter. And I think he is gonna be at least a tweener commentator

Not sure if anyone else saw it, but I immediately picked up on his new tron and shirt being a double entendre, good work by the PR department there.

Also, they still haven't exactly explained why this whole Shaq/Jade thing happened, and if it's like Hobbs' heel turn, I doubt they ever will.

I'm a touch surprised that AEW didn't have a lot of shit up shortly after the show on YouTube. I missed the whole thing and even now, as we're at lunchtime the next day, I can't see half of what everyone is talking about. They certainly had the important clips up quickly (Shaq clips) but for a go-home show you think they'd want to get things up quicker.

EDIT: But why would they bother? Their fans already all know what happened on the show! HOW DO YOU GET NEW FANS DAMMIT

Disagree on it being a shot at WWE. It stands for "No More Big Show" right? Sure "No More Bull Shit" is a cutesy double entendre most people will associate with it. But he's not rejecting how WWE treated him. It's just a fun way of saying oh shit I can't be Big Show anymore.

AEW is running the risk of overexposing the casino battle royales.

I haven't been a fan of the casino royale format, but this one is just straight royal rumble rules. Every 90 seconds a new team enters. So at least this one should be a little more palatable.

Anyone see the shaq match covered anywhere unusual? I didn’t think to see where it was trending as it happened. I’m searching this morning and I saw two local news morning shows that had clips, and a bunch of radio stations owned by the same company sent out identical tweets about the clips being on their website. No espn coverage, no celebs or athletes talking about it as far as I can tell.

Edit: there’s a clip of the table spot on the espn site with no context or commentary.

Last night was an exclamation point of an outstanding month of programming heading into Revolution, and the pay per view has gone from routing viewing (just cause AEW rarely misses on PPV) to must buy with a ton of interesting matches. The Shaq/Jade vs. Cody/Red Velvet match strongly delivered, and I would be down for a Cody-Shaq singles match down the road. I have been higher then most here it seems on Team Taz-Sting/Darby angle, but seeing Sting in action and looking great for his age has definitely increased the excitement factor in my eyes. Also, glad to see Ricky Starks get some individual shine, as he is definitely the biggest star in Team Taz (I'd argue he is their biggest star now, and surely in the future). Bucks and Jericho/MJF has a strong enough build now to carry a match that has to be higher on story, lower on athletic moves then most Bucks matches (and while I love Bucks normal style, the reason that I rate them so highly is their underrated ability to have great matches without solely relying on the moves). Hangman is a hot character again, and while a big Matt Hardy singles match in 2021 will be a challenge, I think it will still be solid and further get Hangman over on his road to the AEW title this year. Also, rooting for Pac/Fenix to win the tag team battle royal, as them and the Bucks could be insane. Finally, think that Chuck/Orange against Miro/Kip has show-stealing potential, as they all can go in the ring and it has had a good build going in (and cannot see Chuck turning just cause there's plenty left with Best Friends, but it's good to have that looming over the match).

Tony Khan confirmed today that the Ladder Match surprised and the "Hall of Fame" signing are two different people

His phrase today regarding the later "major, huge, huge star in the world of wrestling: that will be signing a multi-year deal."

Oh and I should mention that Meltzer on the radio show favored the "Hall of Fame" star as being Kurt Angle

He did point out that Christian isn't actually under a WWE contract but Khan dropping "major, huge, huge" seems to eliminate him (as much as I love Christian)

Wight’s phrasing implied that the person was HOF worthy.  This could open up the flood gates for any number not-quite-there-yet talent like Thea Trinidad.  It could also mean someone controversial like Tessa Blanchard...or loooong shots - Marty Scurll.  He just had his NJPW Strong problems...plus Tony K has made some statements on not having Scurll on their roster.

Red Velvet did drop Tessa’s name on AEW Unrestricted the other day.  She named Tessa as a future dream opponent for herself.  Coincidence? Yes, it is!

Aren’t the casino battle royales only done at the PPVs?

I might as well prepare myself for disappointment when it ends up not being her.  But that would be interesting to see how she would far in AEW.

I love Thea and assuming her 90-day no-compete is finished would be interested in her joining.  But as for Tessa and Marty unless they want most of the crowd to boo like crazy I don't see it happening.  Especially for Marty.

Again - not when the owner of the company is saying it is a "major major star"

I saw on some website (maybe Fightful but don't quote me on that) that Schiavone said he doesn't think Tessa is coming in anytime soon and that was like almost three weeks ago.

That said, based on her IG and the fact she is getting swoll as hell, Tessa is training for something.

Wondering if they somehow tie Spears joining FTR to when he "quit" in that sit-down interview, or if that's just gonna be kinda quietly retconned into the night

It was all a long con so Spears could...help them get a win in a meaningless six man!

I was wondering the same!  Anything on Sportscenter, Acess Hollywood, etc?

Better yet, let some legends go.

Honestly, my first thought was Charlotte, but I believe she re-signed not too long ago.

Obviously, my dream pick would be Charlotte, Sasha, Bayley, or Becky, but they're all locked down. Io just re-signed as well I think. I think any of those 5 are hall of fame worthy even if they're not in the hall of fame and only Io isn't a major star.

Promising a HOF-worthy major major star and delivering Thea would be such a crazy letdown that I almost wish that's what was happening. That would be the ultimate "we can never let ourselves get excited by anything these people promise us" moment of all time.

I don't think there are enough women wrestlers available who plausibly meet the description. I could stretch and say American TV wrestling fans might buy Gail Kim as HOF-worthy, but certainly not a major major star.

Angle makes sense I guess and he isn't one of the more outlandish names who I'd actually want to see, so he seems like a safe pick. If they are bringing in legends, I would hope for one who looks to have a little more left in the tank. Considering he's said inactivity as GM in WWE led to him getting arthritic and stiffening up, I'm not optimistic about how he'd look after another two years without wrestling. But we'll see.

As far as legends who stand around and do nothing, I can see the case that they have more than enough of those. But if a Cena or a Lesnar or even a Rey Mysterio hits the market, someone who can still give you a pretty good marquee match, I don't know why you don't try to land them. I guess it depends how we use the term "legend," but if hints like this are being dropped when Bryan's contract is coming up, my attitude is definitely sign some legends.
