AEW - MAR 2021

Pixies stuff. Spoilers for TV from the last decade I guess.

Spoiler

My vote for best use of the song was in The Leftovers. As in the case of Mr Robot, it's very clear the people making these shows would be aware of the Fight Club connection when they made those choices. While it's just a Pixies song to some, I wouldn't underestimate how many people strongly connect it to that film.

Still a good pick for OC though.

So did anybody watch Elevation tonight? Because I was confused by Wight calling Thunder Rosa's shot to Alex Gracia's "lower kidneys". Does Gracia have multiple sets of kidneys?

I was more baffled by Tony calling a Death Valley Driver a Canadian Destroyer.  And Ryo Mizunami is a fucking jewel of a wrestler.

Elevation has really exposed Schiavone as someone who needs to stick to the Don West role at this point in his career. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm guessing in a year the Dynamite booth will be Excalibur, Schiavone, and Wight.

I grew to love Ryo over the course of the Eliminator tournament, but she's seemed a bit off since. I don't know if it's a language issue between her and her opponents or what.

Also, what is up with that spot where she rapidly, gently pats her opponent's chest? Are we supposed to buy that as an offensive move?

But that's enough nitpicking. Ryo Mizunami is indeed awesome.

That Chandler Hopkins lad who wrestled Joey Janela was really good.

Has anyone reported that AEW released/ stopped using Ivelisse? Because she's not been around for a bit, and then on Elevation there was a confrontation between Rosa and Diamante, over who is the top Latina in the company. Implying there's only the two of them there now.

I believe she's doing that Satoshi Kojima did with the multiple chops to the chest (I believe that was him for it not I'll be quite the fool)  But either way I love watching her as unlike past times she was on the tournament really showed what she brings to the table.  I thoroughly enjoyed her match with Killyn who also stepped it up to prove that she can hang with the best.  I wouldn't mind seeing her work in Japan as I think there's some quality matches she can have there.  I also did like her interactions with Bryce who went back into Chikara wacky ref for this match.

I rate the Pixies (with Kim Deal only) amongst my Favorite bands of all time.  ‘Where is my Mind?’ being my introduction on a maxell compiled by a good pal.  The Fight Club closer was the only use of the song that I really loved.  It was a shock at that time as the band pre-reunion still felt kinda sorta word of mouth in a sense.  Shows and movies using it after that feel lazy.  That is a general rule for songs used in an iconic way. Tho, there are exceptions (see 110th Street in Jackie Brown-context!).  Further, there are soooooo many great Pixies songs.  That said Wrestling is obviously completely separate and I dug seeing OC saunter out to it.  I thought I would’ve preferred something less cool and more sorta ironic (Jane was perfect - glad to hear TK tried for it), but this is gonna work just fine.

Ps Trompe le Monde and Bossanova are terribly underrated.  Don’t listen to ppl who claim love for Surfer and Doolittle with less feeling for the latter two.  Come on Pilgrim seems sorta overlooked too.  And check out the Complete B sides to see how flawless this catalog is.  Or was.  Frank solo up to Black Letter Days is terrific too.  So too the Breeders - first to last.

Damn, it's cool to see Cassidy & Chuck 1) working for a national company and 2) coming to the ring with licensed music.  Orange was no-selling but Chuck looked really happy.  I will never forget a story that was told on a podcast I listen to...the hosts were hanging with Cassidy, Chuck, and Trent and watching Wrestlemania and they were so dejected.  That ref's young son won the tag belts with Strowman and they were talking like, "our careers are going nowhere and this kid is being booked for Wrestlemania."   I mean it's not as bad as it sounds; they were more self-deprecating than bitter, but there's a kernel of truth there.  Anyway, it's so cool to see something work out.

I know what you're referring to and Chuck has told that story a few times. Chuck has teased retiring a couple times, but the reference to Strowman and the ref's son felt very much like an inflection point for him. Do I continue doing this thing when I can't even get booked in WWE and this kid is on WM winning a title, or do I press on. I'm glad he pressed on and I wouldn't be shocked if the Bucks or someone else said they had something cooking, hang in there, etc.

I still hope we get a tag title reign with the Best Friends. In hindsight, no one would have been hurt if Chuck and Trent beat Hangman and Omega for the titles and lost them back 3 or 4 weeks later. Hangman and Omega losing them to begin with would plant the seeds in Omega's head to want to go off on his own, that Hangman is the weak link, etc. They win the titles back, things start getting better, and when they drop the titles again, Omega does everything he did before. Everyone wins!

  • TMZ reported that Chris Jericho donated $2,500 to the family of the slain Uber Eats driver, 66-year-old Mohammd Anwar, who was killed during a carjacking last week. Police believe two girls, 13 and 15, shot him with a taser in an attempt to steal his car. The girls crashed the car and it flipped over and Anwar was killed. Jericho said, "I just thought the whole situation was terrible and it really hit me hard.  It's not much, but it's the most I could do to try and bring some light into a dark situation." Both girls have been charged with felony murder and armed carjacking.

Well done, Chris Jericho.

Ha, feel like I keep getting caught opening my internet to this rather erotic image while out in public.  Ppl around me think they have a transit porno viewer in their midst.

Im stoked for Kazarian-Christian. Kaz is AEWs definition of a great hand.  And I haven’t seen Christian wrestle in nearly two decades.
