The Action Cartoons Thread

Recommended Posts

I like Wonder Woman as a character so I'm biased, but I'd agree with The Natural as well.Another thing about Flashpoint I forgot to mention, I really disliked the casting choice for Zoom. For the big bad of the entire movie he had very little personality in his performance. I didn't get menace, he didn't disturb me, he didn't seem particularly unstable, he just read like... a guy. I wasn't sure exactly what they were going for.

Natural, I was only counting since Superman: Doomsday. I've also seen Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: First Flight, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Batman: Year One and Superman vs. The Elite.

There's actually a handful I haven't seen come to think of it and I know two of them are Batman: Under the Red Hood and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns so they very well could wind up being my favorites.

Ugh...I say this thread needs more Axe Cop talk and you all start talking about Wonder Woman and shit.  Turn in your dicks.

I feel bad for it that it got stuck with the really shitty/unfunny High School USA, because if you didn't know, Axe Cop is the shit.  Created by a 5 year old and his 25 year old brother, it's awesome shit that started as a web comic and is now on the new ADHD block on Fox, which is a blatant Adult Swim ripoff.  So it's 15 minutes long and maaaaaaaaannnn the first episode was great.

AND IT'S RIGHT FUCKING HERE YOU GUYS.

Yeah I loved Axe Cop up until Bad Guy Earth which is when the whole "from a child's mind" perspective started to wear thin for me. I haven't kept up with what Ethan and Malachi have created since then but I'm very happy for both of them that they've reached this level of success. I will say that the Dr McNinja/Axe Cop team up is one of the better team ups in comic history. I'll check out that first episode soon, thanks for the link.

I would've thought ADHD stuff would go in the Venture Brothers thread since that's theoretically also "other AS shows" and ADHD wants so, so badly to be AS.

I thought Axe Cop was fun, though trying to do twelve minutes may have been a mistake.  Also, certain aspects feel like stuff no modern under-ten would ever come up with (like all of Bat Wombat Man's friends being the cast of Happy Days) and it kind of breaks the illusion that this is still the same little-kid derangement.  That said, "This ramp goes to space.  Which is really high."

High School USA felt like an overly long sketch from a longer show rather than a thing unto itself.  Dino Starburns has done enough legit funny stuff (some of his writing for Mr. Show and Conan, Moral Orel before it went off the rails into MISERY PORN TV, etc.) that I'll give it at least one more episode before I just walk away, but the first episode was just shit on toast.

Since Superman: Doomsday I've watched Superman:Doomsday, Batman: Gotham Knight, Wonder Woman, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman: Year One, Justice League: Doom, Superman vs. The Elite and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 & 2.

I think I've seen them all except the DRK ones and Flashpoint.

Superman Vs. The Elite towers over the rest of them by a wide margin, with Wonder Woman and New Frontier and Year One and Red Hood and Emerald Knights and Crisis all being various levels of good.

All-Star Superman is good and frustrating, because there is so much missing from it.  It should have gotten the two film treatment.

I've seen everything, but Flashpoint. Under the Red Hood and Superman vs. Elite share the top spot for me with TDK two parter coming just after them. Not sure what would come after that though I think all of them have managed to at least be solid.

If Mask of the Phantasm counts (which I don't count it, it's not part of the same line) then it's clearly right there with Elite.

As for accents, I'm American, I can't tell a good British accent from a bad one.

Watched the second episode of Beware the Batman, still not entirely sold on it but another solid episode. Couple of new characters introduced this time in Magpie, have no idea who that is, and Barbara Gordon. The fight scenes were animated well again and i like that they are showing a little of Batmans detective side too. The bulk of the episode is standalone but it seems like there will be a continuing story running through the series.

Still not the show i want from a Batman series but nothing there to turn me off yet.

I may just be getting old, but I was shocked by Magpie having a rubber version of Emma Frost's original costume, sans cape.

Yeah i was a little surprised something like that would be in a show that, i assume, is entirely aimed at kids

I just watched B:BATB Music Meister episode last night.  SO GOOD!  Anyone who doesn't like that episode should be locked away from the rest of humanity.

I disagree.

Mostly because I'd miss everyone while I was locked way.

It boggles me that Tara Strong has now done four versions of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl over what? 20 years?

Crazy. And awesome, given that TAS is different from Beyond is different from Beware is VERY different from Super BFFs.

Also, the notion of Manchester Black's accent being awful is kinda funny given that Robin Atkin Downes is, y'know...English.

TAS and Beyond were the same continuity. I only recall her playing the younger version in ROTJ for Beyond.

It speaks to Strong's talent.  But it also speaks to Andrea Romano's dedication to developing relationships with said talent and keeping them in the loop for so long.
