Yeah there is a lot of awful coming from this particular tweet   It is bad enough that there is a high school football game on ESPN.  It is really bad when the team getting squashed by IMG was an 0-6 team last year that played just a couple days ago but played in order to get on national TV and get embarrassed.  How did they get on TV?  Well they lied to ESPN saying that they had Division 1 players on the team.

(Many sites have pointed out that ESPN can claim they were duped but it is also very obvious they did no research into the matter but feigning ignorance allows them to throw the company that arranged it under the bus)

ESPN is probably not blameless here and is definitely doing damage control, but they're the least guilty party.  The school - Bishop Sycamore - put out an inaccurate (to put it nicely) press release touting their D1 prospects.  Press release even mentions players who don't attend the school.  Bishop Sycamore duped Paragon Marketing into making the game.  Paragon Marketing put the game together and sold the broadcast rights to ESPN.

It's embarrassing, and no doubt someone at ESPN should have spent five minutes on Google to verify the school before the contract was signed, but I don't necessarily expect network execs to be familiar with every high school football program in America.  Paragon Marketing has worked with ESPN before.  I'm guessing the network didn't think they needed to verify who was who.

School is mostly to blame here.  Paragon and ESPN also didn't know that the school played another game on Friday.

A school that doesn't exist playing a wholly-owned subsidiary of a talent agency that only exists to exploit unpaid teenagers is a nice microcosm of where "amateur" sports are in this country.

Ain't that the truth.  The real question is which school is more fake?  IMG or (har har) BS?

Not football related, but ties in with how gross kids sports have become.  Found out tonight that one of the players from the team I coached this spring got scouted/recruited to be part of a select team.  It was a T-ball team.  He's five.

A couple of power schools in the area (Dematha in MD and St Francis in Baltimore) have Bishop Sycamore on their schedule so folks are wondering how long it will be before those games are cancelled

Well given those team are top 20 level and benefit from winning 50-0 in games, I doubt they would remove them from the schedule unless Bishop is forced to disband as a team/school/whatever they are called

Having Bishop Sycamore on your schedule right now is far too toxic to keep the game

And to follow up here - in that Wash Post article I posted, DeMatha says they will not play Bishop Sycamore

Apparently,  Kevin Hart is already setting up a Docudrama about the Bishop Sycamore story.

What are the odds the villain will be Disney/ESPN the giant corporations that insists on finding a way to turn children's sports into big $$$$$ and who regularly pay Kevin one or two boatloads of cash?
