Ah the worst rule in the NFL rears its ugly head again.

the rule is fine, and a fair counterweight to how barely brushing the pylon with the ball counts as a TD. seek the reward, accept the risk. Maybe don't stick the fucking ball out like that when you've still got 4 downs and 90 seconds to score from the 1

the PROBLEM is that on replay it was patently obvious that he only fumbled as a result of an absolutely illegal hit, and due to the myriad of narrow, arbitrary, and often contradicting provisions in the NFL rulebook, especially as it pertains to reviews & challenges, clear evidence of a penalty having been committed is on the wrong side of the "this is subject to review" vs "this is not subject to review" divide when the league could just as easily arbitrarily decide that it is.

The Browns should've been able to keep the ball because the Chiefs committed a personal foul on the play, not because a fumble touchback is inherently "unfair".

And they are the young ones.  You have 2 grandpas playing in the last game

when the WWE stops running Goldberg vs Undertaker and/or Brock, the NFL will stop running Brady vs Brees and/or Rodgers

Except of course that everywhere else fumbling out of bounds gives the ball back to the offense.

that's the other problem: the rules of the sport completely change depending on game situation, even before the refs decide to call in the 4th Quarter what they weren't calling in the 1st, and vice versa.
