2021 HORROR MOVIES

Well Band did have his own softcore sub-label Moonlight Entertainment back in the '90s. It would make sense.

Funny, I rented Trancers 4 or 5, can't remember which, on a vacation trip to my aunt and uncle's in Florida one time. The aunt was glad I didn't get something violent. Meanwhile I turn on the video (alone, luckily) and am treated to a full trailer for one of the Moonlight movies that was straight tits all the way through ?

Watched Game of Death(2017) on Shudder.

Sort of Jumanji/Saw/It Follows in 75 minutes or less. I found it fascinating. It seemed like it both had something to say and was empty enough that I could make it say whatever I wanted it to, and movies like that are fascinating. Essentially the kids play a boardgame that makes them have to murder 24 people or their heads explode. YOU CAN'T LOSE, FOLKS.

There's also a Margie from Fargo character that just appears out of nowhere.

It's less than 80 minutes. Totally worth your time.

^^^NSFW^^^ (nudity/gore)

This is apparently playing on Night Flight TV. It was shot in Super-8 (as late as '89, no less) in Canada, starring a porn star, and looks like some of the bloodiest but most godawful crapulence ever. I need to renew my subscription. Here's a review:

Anybody seen this one?

I shit you not.  This thing is actually a thing.

Quote

A shark bite spreads a virus across the globe, turning the world upside down. Deep below the ocean, a group of researchers race against time to find a cure. Something has infected the lab technicians and it's a race against time to reach the surface with an antidote before they are all killed by themselves and the sharks lurking inside the test pool and outside in the ocean.

The name of the virus is SHVID-1.

No, I am not kidding.  A deadly virus transmitted by infected great white shark bites.. as if being maimed or eaten would be the least of your concerns...

Speaking of killer nature movies, both Bug and Phase IV are doing the rounds on Epix Drive-In tonight. Bug is going right now and it's shockingly good. I mean this is a film about roaches that set fires with their legs and end up torching cars and animals and people, produced (for the final time) by William Castle. He wanted a gimmick to brush people's legs in the theater! However, it's pretty downbeat and grim despite all that, well filmed, and has some nasty fire effects. At one point a roach climbs up into a woman's hair as she stands in the kitchen they shot The Brady Bunch in, it sets fire to her hair and subsequently her entire head and the rest of her body and the house. It's a wicked setpiece.

Phase IV is to be taped and is supposed to be even better. We'll see.

I remember Bug being pretty decent.

Phase IV is eerie at times and then it gets bogged down with the science.  It is the smarter version of Kingdom of the Spiders.  The Outer Limits adaptation of The Sandkings is more like Phase IV and less like GRRM's novella.

The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears was okay, but I'd only recommend it for hardcore giallo fans.   I remember my friend saying that Let The Corpses Tan is more of a weird blend of Western and crime film rather than a straight horror joint.  I've never gotten around to watching it.

Anyone watched Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani‘s films (Amer, The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears, Let the Corpses Tan) and have opinions?

I love these movies. I watched Strange Color of Your Body's Tears is one of my favorite movies ever. Like ever. I think it's beautiful and trippy and the ending is such a great psycho sexual concept.

Corpses Tan is different but still a total blast. Amazing cinematography. Like if a poliziotteschi was filmed like a Sergio Leone film but fucking wilder than that.

I think Cattet and Forzani are in my Top 5 right now. They're arthouse mindbenders using classic seedy genre as their medium. Love it.

So I just watched The Howling for the first time, and wow! Very 80s-riffic with the plot hammer at times

Loved the effects, and now I'm going to catch American Werewolf in London to compare both as I don't think I've ever seen that one either. Being raised in the church i never got to see horror movies until Leprechaun and Bram Stokers Dracula hit the dollar cinema, so I missed out on a ton of 70s and 80s horror ?

Dude if you have a checklist of stuff you haven't seen give it to us, we'd love to read it and rate it.

American Werewolf is gonna be way more of a downer than Howling IMO, but it's still great. Jenny Agutter, nightmare Nazis, mutilated hallucination friend, yes please

Hey!  Relic debuted last night on Showtime while I was flipping between NCAA basketball and UFC!

I will probably watch it today when I get home from work just as soon as I am all caught up with the Three Days of the Condor miniseries on Epix.

The Howling and American Werewolf are both great for totally unrelated reasons.

I think that American Werewolf has the best random WTF scenes out of any horror movie I've ever seen.  John Landis just gave Rick Baker license to go nuts.  American Werewolf had some of the best atmospheric scare scenes ever (poor bastard in the subway), but I'd like to see a DVD release that has an uninterrupted compilation of David's nightmares.

Between American Werewolf in London and Logan's Run, Jenny Agutter dragged a lot of dudes kicking & screaming into puberty.

I fucking loved American Werewolf in London, oh man I could hardly sleep last night from laughing so hard that my ribs were aching

The car wrecks, the cop going all NOTHING TO SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG and so many other scenes. Gotch damnit I haven't laughed that much watching a horror movie since Midsommar (the mating scene with the women all moaning happened to be playing as my brother in law leaves his bedroom to join me, my mom and my sister watching this movie for the 1st time not knowing what the heck happens next ?  My brother in law is a devout Christian who thinks cigarettes and alcohol are sinful to partake in, and he gets uncomfortable watching movies with sex and nudity if he's watching it with anyone else besides my sister ? So yeah him deciding to see what we're watching as that scene unfolds was hilarious as fuck seeing his eyes POP OUT pretty much ?)

the Werewolf transition scene was much better here imo because that bubbling transformation from the Howling just seemed weird. Great fx though I preferred the upright on two feet Werewolf vs the crawling on all fours, but thats my personal taste..

Curt, I really have a shorter list of what I've seen vs what I haven't. Barely saw the 1st Friday the 13th a few weeks back, and haven't seen any of the Elm Street series except for Freddy vs Jason and the reboot. Texas Chainsaw I've seen the first two and one of the reboots, Halloween i think I've only seen the reboot, barely saw Nightbreed bout 3 years back and maybe the first three Hellraisers. None of the Phantasm, Poltergeist or Exorcist movies at least not that I remember.

Whatever I did catch was mostly troma since it seemed sci-fi with like Mutants vs monsters, not til my folks split was i able to finally watch horror films

Things was free OnDemand on FearNet or one of those channels. I got drunk and watched it about 10 or 15 years ago. I remember it being fun, and that's about it. The only thing I remember clearly is that Amber Lynn was a newscaster in some kind of wrap-around segment. I really need to get plastered and check it out again.

Because you knew that was coming haha

@Hayabusamaybe we should make you a list then?

Shit, this may be harder than I thought...

The Exorcist

Phantasm

Night of the Living Dead (Bolded for emphasis. And Dawn, Day, etc.)

Halloween

Alien (though that might have fell under sci-fi for you)

The Hills Have Eyes

The Omen

Zombie + The Gates of Hell/City of the Living Dead + The Beyond + The House by the Cemetery

Deep Red + Suspiria + Inferno + Tenebrae

What am I missing friends? Aside from Night of the Living Dead I'm leaving out B&W unless somebody wants to pull that deck of cards out.
