Dolfan in NYC Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Lady Gaga broke the record for largest live audience this weekend. She had a concert on Rio de Janiero's beach and drew 2.1 million people: 1
Travis Sheldon Posted May 5 Posted May 5 And she put on an amazing show. The new album is, IMO, her strongest since the Fame Monster days.

Lady Gaga is on the list of artists that I don't listen to, but would probably go see in concert. She's not really my taste, but I can and do appreciate the talent. 1

RazorbladeKiss87 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I'm sitting at the doctor's office which is in a shopping center and their radio is great. "Pressure" by Billy Joel into a "Bizarre Love Triangle " remix.

This reminds me of one time where I took my mom to a doctor's appointment and as I noticed that the music in the waiting room was really good, some douche got up to complain about it. In what might be my favorite piece of customer service I ever witnessed, the lady at the desk politely said, "I'm sorry you don't like it, but I welcome you to wait outside if you would like." The guy was dumbfounded. He tried to argue, but she stood firm and said in a super pleasant voice, "you can take a chair into the hallway and we will come out to get you once we're ready." He looked around the room, found no sympathy, dragged a chair into the hallway, and everyone in the room was happy as hell that the woman got him out of there. It was one of those times where a room full of strangers who literally have never interacted with each other all immediately were on the same page because of one asshole. 2
odessasteps Posted May 6 Posted May 6 My doctors waiting room used to have oe of the classic TV channels but of later they are showing Steve Harvey Family Fueds.
Curt McGirt Posted May 7 Posted May 7 (edited) I think we are ignoring the fact that Jann Wenner errrrr the Hall are probably keeping a handful of the old-timers unannounced so can they bring one per year out of mothballs in order to give themselves a pat on the back. They probably have a list and get all excited when somebody's still alive, maybe get ahold of their hospital results ahead of time. Edited May 7 by Curt McGirt 1
Johnny Sorrow Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Has there ever been a band whose album covers didn't represent the music more than Molly Hatchet? It's all Frank Frazetta Fantasy Imagery that makes me think of boring prog rock ...and then it's kinda fun Southern Rock instead. 1

My uncle had every Molly Hatchet record and I always thought it was weird because I assumed they were like Manowar and he's definitely a classic rock guy. Finally hearing them, it made a lot of sense. 1
odessasteps Posted May 18 Posted May 18 realized that not only was this song/video inspired by Island of Dr Moreau, it could also be an episode of Doctor Who: social message, dodgy costumes and quarries.

It's still really weird. There is a crossover though; plenty of metal fans I've met dig country-rock, Skynyrd type stuff, probably because it can get really guitar-wanky and/or they grew up in the South. 2
Travis Sheldon Posted May 19 Posted May 19 The Allman Brothers Band, Black Oak Arkansas, and Marshall Tucker Band could definitely jam when they felt the urge. Molly Hatcher could play, too, but they were more typical of the heavy boogie scene.
Curt McGirt Posted May 19 Posted May 19 There's a lot of those bands I still need to hear, like Blackfoot. This inspired me to download the first Point Blank record just now actually. Any recommendations?
Curt McGirt Posted May 19 Posted May 19 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4qTdJNYTlw&ab_channel=massimo1009 Oh man, this is fantastic. It's definitely more what Travis called heavy boogie, something I identify with Grand Funk and personally have always referred to as "old yeller" music, just one of my personal quirks. Heavy blues, proto metal stuff with gruff singers. Pentagram would even fall into that category I guess in the earliest years. Killer guitar harmonies here too! 1
zendragon Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Allman Brothers start with Live at the Fillmore and Eat A Peach, I'd also check out Best of Greg Allman
odessasteps Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Didn’t we used to have a radio (non music) thread? anyway, may 19th isn’t just for Kane anniversaries

Curt McGirt Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Someone on the Terrible Battle Jackets page on Facebook joked that he hadn't heard OF any of the bands on that jacket much less three songs
zendragon Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Only one I could make out was Misfits, was distracted by the "motorhead" shirt. What's that saying about wearing your own merch
Curt McGirt Posted May 24 Posted May 24 The Crass logo down the one side was especially amusing and the thing I first noticed. There was the DRI skanking man on there too. Then I noticed "Milli Vanilli" and I stopped looking 2
