twiztor Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Vinyl records bought today (first trip to the record store since last Spring!): J. Geils Band - Bloodshot Bad Company - Run with the Pack John Lennon - Mind Games Jefferson Airplane - Long John Silver On 1/23/2025 at 8:40 AM, RazorbladeKiss87 said: Monster Magnet is a name I've been familiar with but can't recall actually listening to. Is that the best spot to start? Powertrip (1998) and Dope to Infinity (1995) are both excellent albums. Their biggest single was Space Lord https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dscfeQOMuGw&pp=ygUZbW9uc3RlciBtYWduZXQgc3BhY2UgbG9yZA%3D%3D 2

Curt McGirt Posted January 28 Posted January 28 "Space Lord" (mutha mutha haha) was an enormous hit when it came out. That and the Rob Zombie stuff were like the soundtrack to MTV at that time, along with all the nu metal and boy/girl pop bands. 2

While "Space Lord" was the big hit, I always preferred the title track from the album "Power Trip". https://youtu.be/jE7Zv6d-HUA?si=Lg0cX4EXCjvwteph Of course, how can we discuss Monster Magnet without bringing up this? https://youtu.be/nb1rFcQatPE?si=3boyPvcIcVlc8EPS 2
Curt McGirt Posted January 29 Posted January 29 You do gotta give it to Dave, he's got the hooks. (And I like that he can still write a song that sounds like Grand Funk three decades after they were big.) 1

Well, MM did a banging cover of Sin's A Good Man's Brother, so I think it's safe to say Dave and Phil were influenced by Grand Funk Railroad. 1
Curt McGirt Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I clearly noticed it in "Live for the Moment". I am also a huge Grand Funk fan, actually. The red album has probably the loudest bass I've heard outside of a dub or Miami bass record.
Zimbra Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Kinda funny article about how Mark Mothersbaugh makes $1M in annual royalties from Uncontrollable Urge because it's the theme song to one of the, like, three shows that's still on MTV. https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2025/01/29/devo-whip-it-rob-dyrdek-ridiculousness-mtv/77969298007/ 1
zendragon Posted January 29 Posted January 29 https://variety.com/2025/music/news/matt-pinfield-massive-stroke-mtv-vj-radio-host-1236289950/ Matt Pinfield is in really bad shape following a massive stroke 3

odessasteps Posted February 2 Posted February 2 One of the classic rock stations in Philly loves playing the Friends theme/Rembrandt song. It just on inbetween Human League and Guns N Roses.

odessasteps Posted February 3 Posted February 3 My favorite song that I discovered today. (Don Ray did the song used on the JCP mid Atlantic tv show.) 1

We got to see them in their reunion tour a few years back, but i know that she would want to be there.

The BoDeans are from Wisconsin so there is roughly a 50% chance that you can find the Party of Five theme song playing on the radio here at any given time.
Dolfan in NYC Posted February 11 Posted February 11 This probably goes here (for now...) Two airplanes have collided on the runway of an airport in Scottsdale, AZ. These are two private planes, however, one of them belongs to Motley Crue's Vince Neil. 1 dead, 3 injured. No word yet on Neil's condition.
