I donno man. I listened to it this morning and it's kind of embarrassing. The back third of it improves but I didn't think it was anything great. It was nice hearing Bizarre and I really liked having BabyTron get possibly his most high profile exposure so far.

Hey! Once you got to "He [Christopher Reeve] died on purpose just to ruin that song" I was sold! Ain't gonna beat that if it's not "Shady Records was 80 seconds away from the towers, some cowards messed with the wrong building, they meant to hit ours!" which is the greatest rhyme in the history of rap for impact (oooooh!) alone!

l think it was "died on purpose"

Speaking of Moz, he reissued the live album "Beethoven Was Deaf" which had previously been import only but changed the cover art to a more modern live shot that looks crappy. Some rumblings about edits on some songs. I'm past the point where I should care but I still have some of those lingering feelings of fondness as The Smiths have been my favorite band since 6th grade.

Sorry for the double post but I have a recommendation for the soul/funk fans. I found a reissue of Eramus Hall's "Your Love is My Desire" from a label doing Bad Brains remasters and it's really good. I've only had one listen but I think if it'd been on a stronger label at the time, it'd be remembered by more soul fans. Well worth your time.

Sure, sure, the Smiths are great, but so is Morrissey's rockabilly band from this era.

I like the new cover art. It feels somewhat more appropriate to the album name. Changes to cover art and track listings is nothing new for Morrissey reissue campaigns. I'm curious to know what edits. Searching but finding nothing thus far. Anyway, stoked to get my hands on this reissue.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, Morrissey's solo stuff has a lot of highlights, that era being one of them.

My biggest issue with the cover art is it being out of the time frame. Maybe nitpicking but it just bugs me. I'll have to look for the edits talk. It was on a collector forum I found looking up Beach Boys boots. I won't be able to compare for myself at any rate.

Totally fair. The original also features a nice monochromatic image that reminds one of the great Smiths cover art. Morrissey solo cover art in general is far more hit and miss, but few fail to amuse (Maladjusted).

Yeah, solo, Smiths, whomever the musical accompaniment, rarely a misfire until Ringleader (even tucked away on a b side of a 7 inch), at least to my tastes. Id back the play that the Beethoven era of Your Arsenal into Vauxhall is every bit as good as any Smiths era. Alain Whyte is so underrated compared to Marr.

I'm surprised they haven't made a movie about the Philly mafia wars. You got a whole cast of characters and could take your pick as to a focus. Just doing a movie about FBI informant and serial killer Greg Scarpa, who allegedly got the Mississippi civil rights workers murders solved, would be a good enough choice.

EDIT: I mixed up my mob wars. Scarpa was part of the Colombo wars in NYC, not the Philly wars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_crime_family

Was looking through our employee discounts today.  Amongst all the usual M’s, like Marriot or Microsoft (which is what I was looking for) - Megadeth.

Peace sells... but who's buying (at a discount)?

I've been digging through the crates for 1983 EPs.

Skins E Punks = T.N.T.  -- this is a pretty cool compilation of Italian hardcore punk bands  I don't know if any of them went on to bigger things, but there's four groups and they each get two tracks. Italian Oi! sounds much cooler than British Oi!

Riot Squad's Don't Be Denied EP and I'm OK -- Fuck You... speaking of Oi! Riot Squad were a UK82 band that I quite enjoyed. Street punk with plenty of force.

Rolands Gosskör's Pigs Part One... this was some catchy as Swedish punk.

Huvudtvätt's Huvudtvätt and Headcleaners... this was a compilation of two earlier EPs and not really 1983 music per se, but hey, how else are you going to be exposed to more Swedish punk? These guys were nastier than the previous group. They only played together live once, so more of a recording experiment than a great band, but very cool and very influential on the Swedish punk sound.

Lawsuit's Bad Boys of Rock... Lawsuit is such a stupid name for a hard rock band that I simply had to listen to this. Not bad but a bit soft.

The Singles' Play It! Really nice power pop record from this Bay Area group that weren't able to keep the band together. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Better than most of the power pop releases from this year.

The Limit [USA]'s The Limit... another solid power pop record from a band that didn't make it. The singer is trying too hard to sound like Ric Ocasek, but there are worse guys you can try to emulate.

Headcleaners are pretty cool but their material hasn't stuck with me as much as other Swedish bands from the same era. I really need to listen to my comp of theirs again, actually.

I should also probably get the Skins E Punks comp cuz Nabat is pretty good IIRC and Rappresaglia is a name I've heard a bit but never listened to. Really, French Oi! is where it's at, internationally. They've still got killer bands like Rixe playing the style out there. It's a shame that the '80s weren't bigger for hardcore in the country instead of Oi. Just now there's good stuff like Gasmask Terror, Bombardement and Faucheuse coming out though at least.

EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al7G17j6vzU Yep, sure enough. Rappresaglia is the classic chaotic Italian hardcore with lyrics jabbered extremely fast in a state of apparent psychosis 😄

Made a new gym playlist a couple of days ago and stumbled upon an amazing SynthWave band (from Eastern Europe, hopefully not Russia) called Omega Megadrive. I thought I picked two mega hits to the list, but after listening through their whole discography during the night shift, those two were not even among their top 10. Totally crazy level of material, if you are into that sort of thing (and I know very few of you are).
