Swider was who I used to get my XBox Series X

I used a freeware retail bot.  Worked like a charm.  It worked so well in fact that it's no longer freeware.  It's now part of a $300 software package with a lot more features.  The freeware version is no longer supported, unsurprisingly.

Nature guardians in GreedFall are starting to kick my ass.  I need to take time to make more ammo for my guns build more traps, and brew more potions.

Found loot just isn't cutting it anymore.

Same.  Swiger's been my go-to a couple times this year.  I'm lucky I stumbled across him and he's panned out.  I don't know who else people follow & I've never used a shopping bot.

Currently playing Metroid Prime 3.  Lol, classics are classics for a reason.  I never thought I'd get used to the Wii nunchuk/wiimote controls, but after playing the Metroid Prime trilogy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, I'm starting to like the control schemes.  My Switch is unplugged until ? so I'm planning to play a fair bit of Wii this winter via the Wii U.

Has anyone else sort of soured on the Switch?  I didn't play a lot of Switch this year and I'm to the point where I either just skip third-party games on the Switch or re-buy them if/when they get ported to PlayStation or Xbox.  I just re-bought A Short Hike & Mr. Driller: Drill Land for Xbox, and am doing the same thing next month when moon & Black Bird get ported to PS4.  I buy Nintendo platforms mostly for first-party platformers and Metroid, and Nintendo's not getting much I like out the door right now.

With the virtual console & Wii backwards compatibility, Wii U is doing a lot more to scratch my Nintendo itch right now.  Wii still has 25-30 games I really like (Mario Galaxy 2, Wario Land: Shake It!, Last Story, some good GameCube ports. Klonoa, etc.).

Really wish the Wii port of Chibi-Robo had come to North America.

Epic Games has acquired Harmonix.

For now, Epic says nothing will change and that the Rock Band 4 servers will remain active and that all games on Steam (RB4, Fuser, etc..) will remain available there

Again... the ominous words are "for now"

It would not surprise me if all of this was about Fortnite.  Probably wants Hamonix's audio tech for their in-game concerts or some shit.

Only played the Series X for a little bit last night and that was to play Halo Infinite. Wow, the Series X, Game Pass, and Halo are really fucking cool...

Except the Xbox UI is fucking garbage. Man is it bad.

I picked up Psychonauts 2 on sale and man, I'm totally getting the same excitement as playing the original for the first time. In fact, I'd gladly buy Psychonauts again if it was remade with the new graphics/controls.

Blasphemous is on sale really cheap and though I only played it briefly after install today, whoa nelly. This game is dark as fuck.

There's a free dlc expansion coming in December.  Irrc,  It's supposed to be the "true' ending to the story.  Game Kitchen is also working on a sequel, but it's at least a couple years off.

(warning: Old Grognard Dreams here)

I was on one of my daydreaming moods this week, and my brain thought about a couple of OLD old games that could use modern remakes and I came up a list of games I dream of seeing (but I know the odds of seeing one or more of them are super unlikely)

Total War: War Of the Lance (or Total War: DragonLance for different time periods)

The first old old game was SSI's War of the Lance from 1989. Basically, it was a turn based war game set in the DragonLance's War of the Lance series, as the forces of Takhisis, queen of darkness tried to conquer Krynn, and the Whitestone Alliance tried to rally the independent nations to resist the DragonArmies. This is a natural fit for two reasons.. one, you have the big clashing armies that go with the Total War series, and secondly, with the character based system, you could do sidequests with the Heroes of the Lance (or their evil equivalents). Both of which appeared in the original game, but could use a remake, 33 years later. Total War has shown that they can do this better than anyone. I don't know if WoTC/Hasbro would allow CA to play in their sandbox, but with DragonLance making somewhat of a comeback after a time of sleeping, it's something to at least dream about.

Total War: Birthright

This was a side affect of thinking about the above. Doesn't Birthright sound like the perfect Total War universe after Total Warhammer 3? Larger than life folks, and a reason to look greedily at those around you (through Bloodtheft, gaining new powers/issues).Again, this offers both character level and army level/national level play. This seems like a far off option, Birthright's been dead for a very long time, so it wouldn't have the name recognition of DragonLance.

Roadwar 2000 remake as a modern turn based strategy game like X-Com:

Honestly, I'm surprised we haven't seen something like this already, as the Roadwar2000 series did post-apocalyptic very well, and you had to always keep on the move, not just to expand your territory, but because there was a limited amount of available material in a city, and to grow, you had to keep moving.

YFU: (Your Fighting Universe)

One of my weirdest memories was a ps1 game called Fighter Maker, where you could create your own fighters, save them and share them with friends. It seems like something that could happen now. Create-a-Wrestler/Create-a-Player is big in the WWE/sports series right now, so why not create-a-fighter? I mean, it could be the game for folks who obsessively make their favorite characters from various fighting universes/animes, and for people who would love to fight as say, the Hulk and take on Thundarr the Barbarian. Just build a plug and play move build system in, and you can even do a single player universe where your fighter grows in power through a fight circuit. Something like MUGEN, done professionally (and with less porn)

Stellaris: Fading Suns

Only extreme grognards remember the old Fading Suns 4x style game, but I'd love to see something like that ported in a Stellaris style universe. The setting is perfect for Stellaris, with a single "race" but different house/guild bonuses. The network of shifting alliances/diplomatic backstabbing leading to possibly armed conflict, etcetera. Maybe set it in various styles, where, say, shipbuilding is rare, so you have to choose how to use your strength carefully, because everything that gets killed (yours or your opponents) may not be able to be replaced for a while).

Interested to see what people think of my ideas (and their own dreams of games that will likely not come to fruition)

For me I want to see a Lovecraftian Souls-like by someone that actually read Lovecraft so instead of it just being all tentacle bullshit all the time, most of it is surreal weird dream bullshit. Like, I can't be the only person that read The White Ship and The Dream Quest of Unknown Kaddath who isn't working for Fromsoftware already.

One of the reasons people keep going back to Dark Souls 1 even though it's mechanically the worst DS game is because the world design had a sense of wonder, exploration, and open space.

Halo Infinite’s battle pass is fuckin’ garbage, man. Especially the Tenrai event.

You're not kidding. Holy shit. It's going to take forever just to get from level 1 to level 2. For as nearly perfect as Halo Infinite is, the battle pass feels like it was designed by Nintendo for how fucking dumb it is.

I just finished the game today and while I never played the first one this was such a blast to play.  It was said a lot in reviews but you have a super fun platformer that tackled sensitive subjects about mental health in a really humorous way.  I don't play enough games to say where it ranks for GOTY but I would hope it's at least in the conversation.

Now with that done I can finally get back to the GTA V campaign assuming the games I got on Steam's sale don't further divert me from that.

It should be noted for anybody who hasn't played the original, this sequel starts with a quick recap of all the events. Granted, they are still pretty confusing, but it gives you an idea what you're getting into...

So I'm not entirely sure how far into the game I am but I just got through the area where you get the band back together and everything gets psychedelic and colorful, and holy hell what a great game! It's currently available for something like $20 off so I strongly recommend it.

Yeah, that was by far my favorite part of the game.  The whole thing was really trippy and I took my sweet time traversing through the levels.  And the recap did a really good job getting me acquainted with not only the first game but the characters in it.

I really like JRPGs, honestly I do, but I think Tales of Arise is the last one I'll be playing for a while.  I'm melodrama'd out.  During the Pandemic, I've played the entire Trails of Cold Steel saga, Persona 5 Royal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and probably some I'm forgetting, and I just can't do the take 3 steps, melodramatic cut scene, rinse, then repeat for the last few hours of these games any more.  I just want this game to end.  I don't want this to sound like I don't like these games, I really enjoyed all of them for the most part, but there is no reason any of them are anywhere close to as long as they are.  Things that would make all of these games better.  Update the gameplay loop as the game progresses.  If the first fight in the game and the last fight in the game can be won the exact same way, it will eventually grow tiresome.  No more end game boss fight gauntlets.  If I have to fight 48 boss level enemies in a row, by the time I get to the final boss, I'm not going to be impressed.  Not only will I not be impressed, I'm not going to give a fuck.  It's like booking Wrestlemania and making every match an Ironman Match.  This is a fairly new phenomenon, but it's come up in multiple games lately...stop making me pick up items than only benefit me if I play this long ass game all over again.  I'm fine with making your game as replayable as it can possibly be, but playing a game that takes more than a full time work week shouldn't be inflated with tasks that aren't going to provide anything to the people playing through the game.  Here's a great idea for New Game+ content, save it for New Game+.  If they don't change anything else about the end game of JRPGs they need to change this...there is nothing fun about damage sponge bosses.  If the only thing that separates the final boss from any other enemy in the game is that the final boss takes an hour and a half to beat because none of your attacks cause any real damage, you have a shitty final boss.

P.S. In case any game developers are reading this, if you think your game needs a fishing mini game, it doesn't.

Dear God, man. You're a lunatic.

Over the pandemic I beat Disgaea 1 & 2, Tales of the Abyss, ZHP: Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman, Etrian Odyssey Untold, Mario + Luigi Superstar Saga, Megaman Battle Network, Crisis Core FFVII, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Parasite Eve, Trails in the Sky FC & SC and about half of SMT IV & Ys 7 (and that's just the JRPGs). The only time I felt truly MISERABLE was finishing Trails in the Sky SC. It would not end. It was incessant. Which is a shame because I still kind of LIKED the game? Love the main character, found the depth of the world and plot to be astounding. But by about 100 hours into the combined story I was dreading every boot-up. I was on some serious "I don't even like video games" vibrations. I'm about 2/3rds done with Xenogears right now and it feels like a popcorn flick by comparisson.

I will say Tales of the Abyss wore out some of its welcome before it was over. And that while it had a deceptively intelligent plot and world, the boneheaded, middle-rent anime trappings of the series didn't help the drag. Y'know what I loved? Ys: The Ark of Napishtim. 15 hours tops, a ton of action, no high-budget or high-concept navel-gazing, instead of saving the world you just save a few small islands and go on your way.

I'm loving Remnant: From the Ashes, mainly as an example of how to do a big-but-not-AAA game right. Some awesome systems and features in this one. Example: You can just stop playing the main campaign if you feel like it and generate a random adventure, with no dialogue but plenty of dungeons and monsters to kill, keep all the shit from both modes, and go back to the main campaign when you feel like it. Every fucking relevant to the features game should be doing this. I also really like the grimy as hell tone combined with weird sci fi, doing a different twist on post-apocalyptic games. You can also flip from playing online to solo with a simple switch, without having to do any dumb Fromsoft Quit To Main Menu shit. I also like the way the controls feel overall, everything feels responsive and does what I expect, except that I keep accidentally chugging items because of muscle memory from another game.

Anyway for a game that was the weakest reviewed thing I picked up in this fall sale I think it's pretty damn fun. I get that the combo of things this game tries to do isn't going to be for everyone but I'm finding it a winner so far.
