2021 VIDEO GAME CATCH ALL THREAD

For the first time in a very long time, I beat a 15-20 hour game within the first week of playing it.

I Gamefly'd Guardians of the Galaxy and powered through it. It can overstay its welcome at spots with some of the fight sequences, and the combat can be incoherent at times, but it's a great looking game that has a decent story. It also improves my appreciation for Drax as a character. I'm not sure it's by any means a great game, but it does just enough to keep you engaged, and your mileage will vary on the nonstop banter; however, it's impressive how much dialog was put into that stuff.

The huddle up and motivational speech stuff wears out its welcome pretty quickly as well.

The horror game was going to be a Christmas gift, so nothing I could already get for free off of PSN. I was also thinking of something more mainstream and if it's first person, then nothing really frenetic. She tried her hand at Deathloop and couldn't quite get the handle of fast combat.

I also thought about The Last of Us. Would that be considered horror or is it mostly just a big bummer of a game?

Just started Guardians of the galaxy. Great soundtrack, great writing and just a fun game so far. Far, far better than the Avengers( unlike most I like that game).

Spoiler

I knew had things were going down when I saw a member of the Church of Universal  Truth showed up

I will probably buy GoTG if it goes on sale anytime soon.   I still have sooooooooooooo much left to do in GreedFall.

"Do You Have Any Idea Who The Fuck You're Talking To?" successful charisma checks have not gotten old yet.  I think it is the British accent of the voice actor that makes my character sound extra smarmy.

I was considering getting GOTG on Switch, and if I did, it would have been the most modern game I've played since Mass Effect 2 as we've just had Nintendo consoles and laptops around the house since then, but the Cloud Version is supposed to be pretty terrible.

I really like how well they tend to layer things. I still have no Guardians knowledge outside of the films, but you almost think that Lady Hellbender is going to be your big foe at the end before the Church of Truth stuff happens. The faith enemies become a little frustrating towards the end of the game though as those sequences go longer and longer.

Didn't realize Unpacking was on Game Pass.

So I am playing that because I wanted a nice chill game

Of course I became enraged in 2010 by the dude I was moving in with who just threw his shit all over the place

Anyone know when you’re able to preload stuff on Switch? Preordered Pokémon Diamond for my wife, but didn’t see a way to install it just yet. I don’t think I’ve ever preordered anything on that console, so I’m not sure if they let you install early. Maybe I’m just spoiled by Xbox…

I told you 2010 was a douche!

Why is this fucking game making me feel emotions

I heard a discussion on this game last week on Nextlander, and I think it was Vinny who said he found himself reading more into the game than is intended.

I'm guessing this is part of the why.

That game is super effective at environmental storytelling. You can glean all sorts of story from it if you want.

I had to laugh at the article I read over the weekend that indicated younger players were confusing the GameCube with a toaster and couldn’t figure out why the game wouldn’t let them stick it in the kitchen.

At this point I'm actively in Spoiler Avoidal Mode for 3-4 months on Elden Ring because I've seen everything I need to see to know I'm going to be laughing my ass off at people saying "it's just DS3 but bigger" (I mean, people who clearly played neither game somehow managed to do this with Sekiro so...), but stuff I've already seen from the closed network test:

- I'm actually excited to see how adding jumping effects level design and exploration, there seems to be a ton of potential here for shit hidden on some ledge

- Giant enemies being able to destroy terrain rules. Dragons burning down random trees and whatnot

- I saw a man on horseback charge at another man on the ground, and the man on the ground parried him and he fell off his horse and got fucked. I nearly needed to change my pants, just incredible

- Weapon arts being skills you can swap into multiple weapons instead of having the best weapon art stuck on some tier three sword or whatever is going to own

- Power stancing from DS2 being back owns

- Dedicated stealth from Sekiro owns

- They added summoning, fuck yes

- Weapons having 4 or 5 move chains instead of 2 or 3

That's just stuff I can remember off the top of my head. I've seen enough. I'm in. I will be there. This game looks actually incredible.

Am I right in thinking that if I bought Greedfall for the PS4, I'd get the PS5 update automatically, so all I'd be missing out on is the DLC?

I ask because one is £10 and the other is £22, so it does make a fair bit of different money wise.

Cheers.

That sounds about right, but I am puzzled by why they wouldn't put the Gold Edition on sale as the better buy.

Be warned that GreedFall has its share of bugs which may or may not rear their heads until the worst possible time.   I just recently had to go back to an early save in my campaign because one of my companion NPCs (Aphra, the Bridge Alliance technician / long distance specialist) was bugged.

She would spout off her battle dialogue and draw her weapon, but she would take no other actions during combat.   I tried quit / restart and going back to prior saves after her recruitment, but nothing worked.  It only set me back a couple hours of gameplay, but if she is still broken after I complete this quest again I may have to start over from scratch and that will annoy me.

Correct.  Gold Edition update is free unless you got the game for free via PlayStation Plus.  I guess it's on sale somewhere?  Difference in msrp's is $5 USD for the digital edition.  De Vespe Conspiracy DLC is $6.99 purchased separately.

As Tarheel noted, Greedfall was a PS+ game too, but I think it's not upgradeable.

I have it filed away to install at some point.

I'll load up Twitch for 10-15 minutes on my phone before falling asleep in bed probably 3-4 nights a week. Last night, I stopped on a Giant Bomb Infinite stream of a UPF from 2015. They were playing Ultimate Chicken Horse. How was this a thing that I was unaware of until now, and how was it a thing that never knowingly became a huge trending game in the streaming world? It looks like the dumbest fun you could have with a group.

I guess it's a game that came out in the early days of Twitch growing in daily consciousness from a popularity standpoint.

Decided on a lark to grab the new release of Final Fantasy V for Steam (it was less than $15, includes some of the music and wallpaper). Looks clean, I'll put actual time into it once I finish up this FF12 game (I will get Zodiark if it kills me).

Also, FYI the download for the Skyrim Anniversary Grift Edition is at least 4GB.
