So the Iki Island expansion has been fun for me so far. Fair bit of stuff to do. Island is decent sized. However, I'm kinda(very) over having to do hallucination or nightmare sequences in videogames.

I'm impressed by the technical upgrades for the PS5.  Easily worth the $10 for the PS4->PS5 upgrade for me.

Everything I've heard about the new content has been positive.  Iki Island storyline seems interesting, side missions are supposedly an improvement.  Started over from scratch, so I'm still in Act 1.  Probably won't make it to Iki Island before midweek.

So much for Klan killin' right now.   Had a mission for my bar renovation stuff.  In order to recruit a bartender, I had to go compete in an illegal race against some asshole in the bayou.  My bartender raced for pink slips and lost so naturally I have to go win his fucking car back if I want the bartender to work for me.

Figures that this asshole is racing with the DLC hot rod.  It's fast but it is shitty in the turns.   I tried to race with honor twice and failed miserably, so I resorted to old GTA Online habits and PITed the dude into a bog.  He spun his wheels long enough for me to get a five second lead.  Between the rest of the turns on the course slowing the hot rod down and lots of slo-mo driving to help me drift corners better than the hot rod could, I managed to win the race and my bar has a new employee.

Now, it's back Klan killin'.

Lol, I think I enjoy reading about J.T.'s war on the KKK more than I've enjoyed a lot of the games I've played lately.

Speaking of which, am I the only person more fascinated by the business side of the industry more than games playing?  I enjoy most of the games I finish, but I also think that, given the choice between playing games for a couple hours or spending a couple hours talking to a game designer, studio head, head or marketing, or maybe even a critic, I'd choose the latter.

The showdown with the Klan was a little anticlimactic.  I knew from a previous cutscene the manner in which I would kill this rich racist shitbrick , but that made me look forward to dealing with him.  He's also the asshole commentator on one of the radio stations and apparently he comes from an old money blueblood Cajun family.  I think I hate the Bless Your Heart flavor of racism that coddles and mistakes itself for shephearding when it is actually about domination more than I do run of the mill racial hatred.  At least you know where you stand with a tiki torch carrying bigoted skinhead jerkass that is openly hostile to you.

The boss battle was not the shooting gallery I'd hoped it would be.  As soon as shots were fired, most of those robed cowardly spooge monkeys fled, leaving me with about five sack wearing inbred swamp mongrels to deal with that I was easily able to pick off with throwing knives and absurdly sound commando tactics.

The irony of me murdering this Grand Dragon douchebag by tying him to a cross and setting him on fire was too great for words.  I AM SENDING A MESSAGE~!  I love how the radio knows how to play Bad Moon Rising, Street Fighting Man, Paint It Black, or Shotgun when I am on the way to a boss kill to dispense some street justice.

The news flashes on the television and the radio of my dastardly deed were cathartic and sad.  The cops are more interested in finding me than they are concerned about figuring out about why this race baiting asshole was found dead at a Klan rally gone wrong.  Only in the 1960's Antebellum South, right?  I have a feeling the New Bordeaux police chief will end up on my hit list.

I am thrilled to see that the game's AI works in my favor as well as for the game.  The BBEG I am after sent out some mooks for a turf hit, but I was close enough to one of my owned business that my mooks came to help me out.  Now to keep climbing the food chain.  I'll put my Sicilian homie in charge of this district once I am done.  If I ignore him again at the next sitdown, he'll probably mutiny and I'll have to kill his punk ass.

Well, fuck.  The wanna be capo I spared was the sister-in-law of the BBEG I am after and he had her clapped while she was in the hospital recovering from the gunshot wound I gave her.  Naturally the Mob thinks I went back to finish the job.

The district is now in the hands of my Sicilian homie and now each of my underbosses controls two districts.  The math says that I won't be able to get any of their high end perks so obviously the replay value is allegedly in fucking over two of the underbosses in favor of a third so that you get that characters high end favors.

I don't see myself playing this game four more times just for that.  It will be bad enough squeaking in another game just to rub out all of the enemy snitches and racket bosses for the two "no loose ends" achievements.

I am trying to talk myself into competing in races so that I can start unlocking more vehicle customization, but I just burned a bunch of money getting the final upgrades for my bar / headquarters and I really suck at racing.

I will probably take a break from the story missions and fire up the Faster, Baby! DLC just to break things up again.

I am getting better at scoring Brutal Takedowns but I probably won't get enough to earn the achievement during this playthrough.  I'll have to try harder on my second go around and hope the achievement counter is cumulative.

I'd love to watch you doing a playthrough video series on this game on YouTube.

Got my 224th Platinum trophy with Saints Row The Third Remastered on PS5. This is the next-gen trophy patch that was put out for the PS4 Remastered game. This will be the third time I have Platinum'ed and 100% Saints Row The Third.

The gameplay is still so addictive and awesome.

There would be far too much rage and swearing and shitty driving for it to be watchable.  I hate the Let's Play vids that are How NOT To's rather than How To's.  I would like my vids to be less Dellor and more Esoterickk.

About the only thing I can say is that I have combat down pretty solid and am living up to the handwavery of Lincoln Clay's Vietnam military expertise.

We now need to see JT as Cleavon Little going after the Klan in RDR2.

Where are the white women at?

There are no Lilly von Shtupps in this game so far.  The two major white female characters in this game have tried to kill me and failed.  Both have ended up dead, although one of them was not murdered by me.

I'm not sure it's "more than" games playing but it's at least equal for me.  I've read dozens of books on the history of games, the people behind them, the industry, and so on.  I love watching documentaries about games and the industry.  I find the construction of games, and the business around them, an endlessly fascinating topic.

I wish there had been romance options in Mafia 3, but there just aren't. Shame.

I almost posted a spoiler in response to something JT said above, but it's not even worth hinting at. He'll probably like it when he gets to it.

It's one of the games that was on my "replay for Platinum" list, that I've not gone back to yet. It's a pretty long list.

Dear Lord, I never should have started playing this stupid game.  As soon as my rational mind begins to get annoyed with the minor bugs and shitty driving, up comes a storyline that totally infuriates me and keeps me playing.

So, in the Faster, Baby DLC, I am going after some corrupt racist peckerwood sheriff that runs some hick ass sundown county with an iron fist and apparently he has murdered a civil rights attorney that was collecting evidence on him.  I will enjoy feeding this asshole alive to a herd of pigs or something.  I hope this douche's death is ironic and poetic.

At least I get a Foxy Coffy Brown sidekick for this little adventure.

Holy shit.  It's like if there was only one Duke of Hazzard and he was a black dude.  There are convenient stunt jumps and all sorts of cliche vehicle ambushes..   The sketchy driving mechanics are really on display but I don't really give a shit when I can get big air and plow straight through a high standing billboard or can shoot the chains on a passing trailer and dump logs on cop cars.

There is also a ganja operation run by some mellow dude that I probably need to leverage for my ongoing criminal enterprise.

All of the cops are openly hostile which is making survivability very problematic.  I'm constantly on the hunt for armor and healies to keep myself from getting perished during vehicle chases and shoot outs.   These fucking yokel deputies are not Imperial Stormtroopers.  They are accurate AF in a gun battle and they have no intentions of taking me alive so I will just return the favor and shoot to kill.

FRUITVALE STATION, MOTHER FUCKERS~!

The Faster Baby DLC main story was shorter than I wanted it to be, but at least I got to create lots of vehicular mayhem and get Lincoln Clay laid.  Sadly, this story gives you the fucking Mod Squad ending and we took the goddamned racist sheriff in alive to answer for his crimes in a court of law.

Shoulda let me drag him to death behind my vehicle or at least let me give him a good kickin' before turning him over to the feds.  I only got to throw one punch in anger to shut off his hate speech villain monologue.

Fortunately, there are some side missions.   The ditch jumping, shitheel sheriff's deputies are intimidating witnesses and trying to destroy the evidence that will be used against this asshole in his trial on federal criminal charges.  There is still vital civil rights work to be done and vigilante street justice to be carried out.

I forgot that before we caught that asshole, there was the usual plot predicament of me getting captured and having to escape via brutality.  The game stripped me of all of my widgets so I had to resupply on nades, gadgets, and my beloved throwing knives after the DLC main story mission was over.  I'm not cash poor but generating revenue is a top priority again.

At the end of the DLC main story mission, I unlocked the badass roadbuster El Camino vehicle which I think I will be using a lot after I take it to the mechanics for some upgrades.  I also got a flash suppressed Uzi looking weapon, but it is a one hander and I am not really fond of the single hand automatic weapons as they eat a lot of ammo.  I prefer the accuracy and ammo conservation afforded to me by the pistols in the game.

I also gotta get this weed growing enterprise off of the ground.  Can't forget the crime.  To quote Blade the Vampire Slayer, "How do you think we fund this little operation? We're not exactly the March of Dimes."

I'm starting to consider playing the game myself.  Then again I'm looking to play more of Psychonauts 2 which I can tell is already really great and hopefully work on GTA V some more.  That plus general fucking around in Fire Pro means Mafia may wait a bit.  But man is it satisfying to read the things J.T. encounters in the game.

I am VERY happy that Psychonauts 2 is apparently great. Loved the first game so, SO much!

The HZD 60fps upgrade is rad and I'm totally gonna play through New Game Plus/DLC in the months before Forbidden West releases.

Currently fucking around in my 8-year-old Minecraft save after blasting through The Pathless PS4+5 as well as Concrete Genie. I did play through the first bit of A Plague Tale and it's cool but didn't immediately grab me, plus I've been on the road for work every week and I only bring my PS4 along.

I seem to have wrapped up things in Sinclair Parrish.  I am bummed that the cops are no longer hassling me because I didn't exploit enough vehicle traps to unlock the achievement.  I did, however, just unlock the achievement for killing 30 dudes with prox mines, so I can stop using up all of my voodoo doll gadgets to lure assholes to my explosive traps and can simply start using grenades.

I'll do a "kill all enemy racket bosses and snitches" run later on.  My adventures will take me back to Sinclair and I will finish up that vehicle trap achievement.

My ganga operation is finally at Level 2.  I didn't know you needed a real degree in chemistry to hybridize your weed samples and seeds to grow new strains to sell on the street.  So far, my Cottonmouth Sally blend is my money making herb.  I had high hope for Hot Grits, but I had to shitcan it.  It wasn't raking in the money.

Now I need to bust up this gambling operation and the New Bordeaux black market so I can put my Haitians in charge of it.  I'll give the French Ward to the Irish and Downtown will go to the Sicilians.  That should keep everybody happy.... but it won't earn me high end perks...  That's okay because I don't really feel like exploring playthroughs where I fuck my people over just for achievements and bonus perks.

Yeech, J.T.'s description of Mafia III makes me want to play it. Currently, I'm trying to Platinum Horizon Zero Dawn for my 225th Platinum and working on Hardware Rivals (which is shutting down on December 8 2021) with some friends when they are online.

I am probably hyping the game up far more than it deserves to be hyped.

FWIW, I actually liked Mafia III a lot more than general opinion, and I think it's much better than the first two despite what critics say.

I agree that III is better than consensus. I had a ton of fun with it. Never played the DLC, but J.T.’s commentary is giving me the itch to go back to it.

Never played the first game, but I really enjoyed II as well. It’s a franchise that I’ve always held a bit higher than most critics.

The game mechanics are meh, but the revenge fantasy of a black man going ape shit on racist criminals in the 1960's Antebellum Deep South is too good for me to pass on.

And, hey!  The story just took a really interesting turn!  Spoilerized for anyone who hasn't played the game and may be inclined to do so later on.

Spoiler

Shit.  I have discovered that the Italian BBEG Godfather of this city suckered my punk ass.   In the beginning of the game, the boss fronts his own money to use as ruse to enter the Federal Reserve bank and rob it.  Your character is the point man for the job (the BBEG's greaseball criminal son / henchman is with you) and you infiltrate the bank disguised as Federal treasury cops brining in old money for routine disposal.

The plan is to drill through the floor of the vault and steal all of the money after your team secures the area.  Good thing this game is set in a time before motion sensors, laser triggers, thermal tracking, and tiny cameras, right?

You think it's only for the cash, but the Godfather's son (who is in on the job and eventually turns on you) is really there to steal engraving plates!   This mother fucker is going to pay for the casino he's building with counterfeit money!

BRILLIANT~!

I feel so used.  It's bad enough I'm avenging murders, but now it's really personal because I hate being played for a chump.

Things have gone sideways now and the Cuban that the BBEG brought in for [redacted] now wants to bail and the BBEG is about to double cross him so off to the rescue!

So this is like the second or third game where a pivotal story mission involves a shoot out near a lighthouse. Cue Bad Moon by CCR.  Time to give some dirt naps.

I have an assault rifle with me, but something tells me I shouldn't have ditched my sniper rifle after securing the Black Market warehouse and turning it over to the Haitians.
