NOV WRESTLING CHIT CHAT THREAD

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

Nakamura seems like a great call. Not that it's ever likely to happen as he's probably doing just fine in New Japan and WWE are unlikely to want him, but they could bring him in tomorrow as some kind of crazed, drunken knee-assassin and he'd be one of the best things on any of their shows. I'd also pay good money to see Yujiro Takahashi turn up as the fourth member of 3MB, complete with spectacular porno-sax entrance music.

I want Yujiro to be booked absolutely everywhere, gimmick untouched.

If I had to make a list of guys with size/charisma/style that could work in WWE, it would be Tanahashi, Nakamura, Morishima, Okada, possibly Minoru Suzuki(He has a simple style).  Outside shot of Nagata.

Real talk, I thought they had something with Tatsu.  He was reasonably protected in ECW, and was presented as someone to take seriously, and guess what?  He was getting over.

Ibushi could work since his style is so visually pleasing.

RE:David. It's OK, per folks over at the Wrestlezone, Benoit didn't even do it, after all.

I think this is a great idea for a thread. Considering there is probably at least a 50/50 shot that he was set up (Kevin Sullivan is a good possibility, I have John Cena as another prime suspect. We all know he isn't the kind of guy he's portrayed to be on TV) there needs to be a serious discussion about this.

If there truth were to come out that Benoit didn't do it(again, something I think is quite likely) there would be major changes. The media would have to answer to all the slandering and whatnot it did not only of Mr. Benoit, but the entire WWE. I expect some big lawsuits and some big payouts.

Popularity wise, it'll do wonders for the WWE. Old viewers would flock back and new ones would come in bushels once they see the WWE isn't about guys on roids who murder people. I would fully expect the WWE to at least double in popularity after Benoit is found innocent.

I could go on and on but when the truth comes out it really is going to be a gamechanger and people will look at WWE and the entire landscape of pro wrestling in a whole new light.

See, if you ask me, this is the perfect opportunity to turn Cena heel. All of the IWC smarks who turn out to boo Cena each night will have real fuel for their fire and the children who view Cena as a hero will now villainize Cena as a conspirator to murder. It's safe to say John Cena would draw some of the most, legitimate heat ever as a heel. If he's gonna go heel, may as well go all in. No better time than when WWE can take advantage of a real life situation such as this.

We all know John Cena wants nothing more than to be at the top and he could've seen Benoit as a threat to that. Besides, he wouldn't be the first Boston area superstar to pull off a shocking murder (see Aaron Hernandez)

Exactly, especially with Cena as the perpetrator. Although this does get me concerned over the welfare of Daniel Bryan, another who has been compared to Benoit. I think we can guarantee a Cena win at SummerSlam, or we might just get another bowflex case.

On the other hand, if it was indeed Sullivan, it should be brought to light, don't you think? The only question is how he did it, I am not sure if you've watched HBO's Game Of Thrones, but a worshiper of a fire God was able to cunjor shadow assassins by giving birth to them, well we all know what Sullivan worships. Seriously, a man with that kind of power needs to be brought to heel, plus the inevitable ratings spike spawned from Benoit's innocence. We can only hope it was actually Sullivan and not Cena.

Dear God.

While checking in on Ryota Hama (5'9, 450lbs, BMI is 66!).. I did find a match with Hama and Yasufumi Nakanoue v. Kohei Sato & Ryoji Sai. Sato/Saj are both in the 6'3/6'4 range and Sato has a back tattoo, so that probably gives him a few points in the WWE formula.

And Hama went from repping Ribera to a black/gold shorter/fatter Rikishi outfit

I think Tozawa has one of the better shots at having a solid career in the WWE. It'll be a mid-card comedy guy. He knows enough english and has enough comedic timing to hang with R-Truth and Santino in backstage skits. He'd clown the 3MB with his craftiness. He'd make bigger guys look awesome, and job to guys who are getting built, and he'd have good competitive stuff on Main Event with Tyson Kidd, or Zayne, and Neville when they get called up. He'd be a rung below Tajiri/TAKA but above well above Funaki or Kenzo.

I've resigned myself to the fact that no Japanese wrestler will get pushed seriously in the WWE. The best we can hope for is a Tajiri or Taka run, which is pretty good, honestly. Lots of guys in America will never get what those guys had. It makes me sad, but the good news is that I can just watch puroresu and not worry about it.

Sai was educated in England, so his English is probably decent as well. He's also quite bland, unfortunately.

Yeah, I kinda reached that conclusion after summarizing that match in another thread and realizing that I didn't remember anything notable that Sai did for 10 minutes. Sato at least seemed to kinda do memorable stuff and he had a good finish

as for Hama. I don't know if he's actually taller than the Headhunters (who were a long-term rumored addition to the WWF but could never get a regular job because they were short fat twins)

Sato and Sai are sort of bland and have little charisma. The only thing in their favor really is height. Hama doesn't have the athleticism/stamina. The traveling schedule alone would likely kill him.

Even taking out the absurdity and lack of sense in these claims, I simply refuse to believe someone who wears jorts on a regular basis is a criminal genius capable of pulling off three murders and escaping undetected.

That poster has gotta be working a better gimmick than anyone in WWE... I hope.

Speaking of Japanese wrestlers, reason #450 as to why Regal is so damn cool.

@RealKingRegal: Happy birthday to the great Jushin Thunder Liger who I've been friends with since'86 when he was still Flying Fugi Yamada. And in my opinion

Is that  Twitter thread over here or was that on the old board?

So, I'm watching NXT today and the crowd is going bananers for a simple, smartly-worked little Sami Zayn-Adrian Neville match, even chanting 'NXT!' (a la E-C-dub) and I thought "Man, there is this great fanbase here and they're just so into it, why hasn't someone started a fed down here in Florida and used this crowd just starving for good wrestling (reminds me a little of ECW's fans) and try to build themselves up a little bit, maybe not to ECW's level but at least elevate themselves above the average shitty indie fed" and I sat there and watched for five minutes or so and went "Oh yeah I guess there is wrestling in Florida",  And THAT is how big of an impact (Ha!) TNA has made on your average wrestling fan.

Anyway... There is a lot of wrestling that goes on here but a lot of the crowds are the typical southern fans. The Orlando fans for NXT are somewhat of an anomaly that seem like wwe fans (cheer and boo the "right guys") but seem to really grab onto the dudes who are legitimately GOOD. Which I like. One of the reasons NXT is good is because I think the crowd is the perfect mix of smart and legit into what is going on. Outside of some people turning their back on Bo, none of the fans seems to be trying to get themselves over.

tldr; lots of good wrestling in Florida, weird crowds.

The NXT tv tapings are mostly filled with Students mixed with families mixed with Impact zone people. It's a weird mix that works really well. As for getting themselves over, it's not as bad as indie crowds but the last tapings did feature a "we are awesome" chant. I blame the Impact guys. The NXT house shows are mostly filled with familes and casual fans. They are fun because it's mostly cheering for the babyfaces and booing the heels. Very traditional. Then you get big pops for something like multiple headlocks and armdrags.

The Orlando wrestling scene has really picked up in the last year or 2. Along with Evolve and FIP running shows, you got I believe In Wrestling which is Chasyn Rance/Larry Z's wrestling school that runs shows about once a month. I've never been to one of those shows but they got guys like Tim Zybisco, Lince Dorado and Jesse Neal. Then you got USA Pro that used to run up in the northeast. They have a lot of old guys like The Headbangers, Manny Fernandez, Steve Corino, Too cold Scorpio and even Tommy Rich did a show along with some of the local guys. They run the same building NXT runs house shows which is a National Guard Armory. Other groups in the area are Vintage Pro and SCW which I hear are decent.

The Orlando wrestling scene is the busiest it's been since probably the Attitude era.

Way i see it, the NXT crowd cheers whoever they want. Tyler Breeze seems like he's getting over as a face despite it all and Parker is more reviled than not. Emma started out in week 1 as a heel and they almost instantly turned her between her first and second appearance. Enzo Amore was almost absolutely meant to be a heel but the fans were having none of it. Aiden English will be super over soon. I'm not totally convinced that there was a long term heel plan for Bo to be honest. Etc.
