NOV 2020 WRESTLING DISCUSSION

I considered posting that here but wasn't sure if it veered too far into political territory.  I know he's the obvious heel but goddamn do I find it impossible to root against Sami Zayn.

About the time a year or two ago we couldn't wait to hear Taker talk about his career since we couldn't because of his gimmick.  Now I wish he was just shut up about it for just a little bit and space it out.  We have at least 3 or 4 specials about it.  Although the Paul Bearer gets a pass for me on this.  A ton of podcasts and interview.  Now he is doing Cameo .

Lol, at $1,000 per video.

For that price, I'm hoping he at least shows some skin.    Might have to wait for his onlyfans account for that one, though.

That price screams someone saying "you should have a Cameo" and him going "sure, but I never want to have to do a video"

He's only doing 30 of them, and then that's it.

I believe he just got on Cameo yesterday, and he's already sold 24.

Lemme go full DVDVR "the heel is actually the face" right now.

I get he sentiment but I don't know if I can go that far.  In the traditional sense he does some very heelish actions and is deserving of boos from fans.  Even though his promos point out how he's an international champion and Bobby just represents one messed up country it still is in a super obnoxious manner.

BUT if you wanted to put a meta spin on it then the idea of Sami taunting a percentage of WWE's base that fall into flatscan territory would be a wildly different face move.  I don't think that's what they're going for though but it wouldn't surprise me if that's part of Sami's intent.

On second thought you may be right.  All I know is I would be super thrilled to meet the guy.  Heck, if not for a large percentage of it going to the company I would do one of those virtual meet and greets if he was doing one.

Seriously, I just wanted to call out that specific DVDVR meme.

I will say, however, that a) Sami is clearly a pretty smart dude and b) I think Bret Hart pulling off the "heel in America, face everywhere else" character is legitimately one of the more impressive jobs of walking a tightrope in characterization ever, and he should get even more credit than he already gets for his character work in 1997, and c) Sami probably could pull it off, too, though I think maybe the audience in the U.S. is less likely to turn on him if he tried.

I looked at the comments under that post and even Americans replying are like, "Hey, you got us," so the audience of 2020 is very, very different from the audience of 1997.

Alot of people say Stan Hansen's best year over all was '93. Obviously because his All Japan matches. What other top level wrestlers that have had their best body of work near or at the end of their careers

I'm not quite sure how you would qualify this as he's one of those guys who kept coming back but Foley? Hell in The Cell (taker and HHH), Three Austin matches in 98. Royale Rumble Street fight all right before he stopped being fulltime. Even his return against Orton was pretty good

Would it be sacrilege to say Eddie Guerrero as a response? I have actually seen quite a bit of his AAA stuff, I think his team with Art Barr is good and that they were good heels, I think his WCW run is mostly excellent, but he was a legit megastar who was still having great matches by 2004-2005.

Eddie was great early, but those last few years was when he put it all together and became one of the best ever.

So, no.  It's not sacrilege in my opinion.

Reportedly NXT to run more shows. Meltzer said Triple H is aiming to create another show for talent. Me I expect something like AEW dark or Main Event but for NXT people only.

Zelina Vega was escorted out of the building,  the third party policy will be strictly enforced.

So basically she got fired and escorted out like it would happen anywhere else.

Speaking of Dave, I started following him again on Twitter last Friday and already regret it.  I have no idea how he gets his work done.  He responds to most everyone who trolls him and usually out-trolls his trolls (which of course provokes more troll responses).

This is at least the fourth or fifth time I've followed him on Twitter and I never last long.  I really hope he's doing a character on social media because he comes off as a condescending ass.  I'm guessing he is doing a wacky character because he seems far less noxious in the Observer, podcasts, etc.

You'll probably be un-following him again pretty soon. The I-told-you-so's and demands for apologies have already begun on this, so he's about to go on one.
