Jiji
Gotta compartmentalize with Connery but holy shit he was in so many movies I love and obviously a major, or the major, reason I love them. I watch the old Bond movies every year like an OCD psychopath in mid to late November, but The Hill, The Rock, Untouchables, Last Crusade, Hunt for Red October, Marnie, The Man Who Would Be King... So many classics. From Russia With Love is either the best or second best Bond movie after Casino Royale imo and obviously he's synonymous with the character. There have been better actors to play Bond and there have been more accurate portrayals to Fleming's character but I don't think there has been a better Bond.

Kuetsar
If Sean Connery doesn't deserve his own thread, no one does. . . . speaking of the Rock, "losers try their best, winners go home and fuk the prom queen.

John from Cincinnati
I like every other combination of actors Huston had in mind for The Man Who Would Be King over the twenty years it took him to finally get it made. But anyone other than Connery and Caine would have been a huge step down. IIRC, both said it was their favourite movie they ever made. Execproducer
I think my favorite Connery film that isn't a Bond is always going Robin and Marian. Edited October 31, 2020 by Execproducer

There are so many candidates for non-Bond films: Lion in Winter, Highlander, Man Who Would be King, Untouchables, Darby o Gill, Marnie, the Hill, Time Bandits,...

The Hunt for Red October, The Name of the Rose, Murder on the Orient Express (obviously he has only a minor role there, but still a great movie). Furthermore, it's been at least 20 years since I have seen that movie, but wasn't The First Great Train Robbery also very good, one that was carried a lot by Connery? I re-watched The Great Train Robbery about a year ago, it’s a fun flick that’s really good. Connery and Donald Sutherland were a great combo and it’s a bummer they weren’t in more movies together. rainmakerrtv
I went with Outland (along with The Man Who Would Be King). Doesn't get a lot of talk, but one of my favorite Connery performances is in Outland. The right combination of "had it with everyone's crap" and " not sure if he is really up for the job".
