NFL 2020 - WEEK SEVEN

Dolfan in NYC

You know what, he's right...The way Cam Newton dresses is what we should be focused on.  People are in such a rush to tell on themselves.  If you watched that game today, and the only criticism you could come up with was how Cam Newton dressed on the way to the game, you are terrible at your job.  Cam was bad, and you could have put used all that energy talking about what he didn't do well on the field.  Except, you want to talk about how he dresses.  Alright, just don't expect me to take you seriously as a human being.

Early rumors are OBJ tore his ACL

Landon Collins looks to have ruined his Achilles

Kenyan Drake's X-rays were negative. MRI today to see what the full extent of the injury is

Andy Dalton is concussed so who the fuck knows how long he is out. He did learn that his teammates hate him

Nowhere else to put this but this thread but as someone who bets a huge ammt of football games there is one big takeaway from this week.  Vegas knows their shit.

Spread for Steelers/Titans  51.5 pts,  total score 51 pts

Browns-Bengals  Browns-3.5   Browns win by 3

Bills-10  Bills win by 8

Not to mention the crazyness in Falcons Lions  and the fact that the Seahawks-Cardinals game was flexed instead of Raiders-Bucs  and the Seahawks-Cardinals was the only game of the week to go to OT.

So either Vegas is damn good at their job or Football is faker than wrestling.   Also, crazy how the majority of the prime time games come down to the final drive. Gotta get those ratings up. The weird thing is how Sea was dominating until the World Series game ended, and then Cards came back and made it close. Almost like NFL knew people would be switching to see the game and wanted to keep the viewers.  I know this sounds crazy but look at how many prime time games are determined by the final drive. Way too many to be coincidence.

First there's way way way too many moving parts to rig a football game, second there's way too much money on the line for the sports books to not know their shit and remember they're always adjusting the line due to amount of money being bet a certain way.

You do realize that Vegas isn't even trying to predict these games, right?  They are trying to get equal money on both sides so that no matter who wins or loses they have the money to cover the bets.  If they're close to the actual score or not, it doesn't matter if both sides are bet equally.

the Steelers one is the best example.  51.5 is the spread. It's at 51, Ben throws the pick in the end zone when clearly they could have settled for a FG,  then you have the missed field goals by the Titans as well. It does look fishy at the least. And if you follow spreads on a weekly basis seeing how accurate these guys are is mind blowing. I mean how can you account a week ahead for weather, if a player feels ill, what's going on psychologically in a player's head?  But more so than not they nail it.  It really is impressive to see.

Fixing the entire NFL, or even just the primetime games, would be functionally impossible, and keeping it a secret would be literally impossible. There's too many players, coaches, etc. Throwing passes on the money is too difficult to only do when you're "supposed to." Field goal kicking is an absurdly difficult thing to do. Etc etc etc

Games, prime time or not, come down to the wire more because of the way the game has changed stylistic to favor passing offenses over all else. You can score while eating up way less time, but that also means you can leave the door open for comebacks by scoring too quickly. We are just starting to see coaches adjusting to the new reality that having the ball last is the most important thing in modern football (see Gurley, Todd)

Teams don't get a 12 point lead and then turn it over to their workhorse running back to kill the clock and slowly chew up yards anymore because the modern rules have made scoring quickly so much easier.

yeah, the end of a football game has to be strategically managed basically the same way as the end of a basketball game now.  Play 2 for 1, keep the ball, accept the fact that the other team is going to score, etc.

Going for it on 4th down instead of taking even "easy" field goals that don't increase your score margin enough, starting your 4 Minute Offense with 7 or 8 minutes still left, the teams that have started doing this are going to repeatedly get over on the teams that still think they can take the sucker bet of Trusting Their Defense.

This has been making the rounds since DK Metcalf's tackle last night

Larry Allen today would still be the best lineman the Cowboys have

That is incredibly impressive.  Not so much that he caught the guy since he had a headstart, but HOW FAST he caught him.  Holy crap, Larry was FLYING.

Nah, just have your former Pro Bowl RB roll into the end zone instead of taking a knee to run out the clock.
