When he started on the main roster, he wasn't all that over except through the inherent jingoism of American audiences. Over time he got over and was entertaining, but a lot of that was through the chemistry he had with his seconds, neither of whom came with him to AEW. And don't pretend that the whole Rusev Day push wasn't goofy. Sure, the fans loved it and latched onto it, but it was a comedy gimmick. He seems like a really cool guy, what with offering to pay people while they were furloughed, and he definitely deserved better than he got from the WWE at the end. But without some serious rehabilitation, he's hardly an instant-slot-into-the-main-event star. That would have been a TNA-style signing. It also doesn't help that the blonde buzzcut looks horrible on him. Thanks. I was wondering if anyone else thought this way about Miro. I don't dislike Miro or think he's terrible, but I think he's kinda average. I kinda feel like a lot of his early popularity was due to jingoism, as said, but also to Lana's Brigitte Nielsen tribute act. The package was greater than the sum of its parts, so to speak. I think a lot of the reason he's been over since with a certain segment of fans is that he seems likable on social media, more than anything he's done in the ring. Personally, I don't think he'd be near as popular if social media didn't make him seem like a chill guy with a sense of humor. I know a lot of people feel like Vince wouldn't push him out of spite after Rusev Day unexpectedly got over, but I'm not sure I blame Vince. There was a period when Miro and Lana were making the dirtsheets fairly regularly for one backstage dustup or another. I never got the impression they were asses, but they certainly seemed to rub some people the wrong way. Weren't they complaining about wanting out of their contracts by the time Rusev Day caught on or was that later? I don't always think Vince is at fault for not pushing some people. Sometimes, it's probably for a good reason. I'm not around these people day to day, so I don't think we can make assumptions about what their work habits or attitudes are like. I do hope AEW doesn't push him as a babyface. Dude thought he was going to make a living as a professional streamer or... something. That's a total heel gimmick if I ever saw one. He'll never be a babyface again in my household. Regarding the blonde buzzcut, I don't think it's great, but it could be worse. He could be Blade/Braxton Sutter (I have the same razor cut as Blade for the same reason: went bald on top. Bleaching the side stubble just looks ridiculous). John E. Dynamite
Some artists are great creators, others are great interpreters. Miro's strength is the ability to take somebody else's (occasionally questionable) ideas and make them really fun. This current "gamer" thing is an extension of what he was doing to keep the bills paid on Twitch, I think it's something he presented to AEW himself. To keep things in line with current AEW happenings, I don't want to see Frank Sinatra perform a live set of originals. I want to see him take somebody else's songs and make them his own. JonnyLaw
Maybe the long term booking with Miro is for him to be the first guy to cut the standard WWE bad creative promo on AEW itself. I’m not sure you could find a bigger heel in AEW or to AEW fans than someone saying it’s just as bad as “up north.”
AxB
So, Top Flight and Leyla Hirsch are our Dark debits this week. Although Leyla is wrestling Shida (taped last week), and she cancelled her next upcoming booking because she's injured, so possibly something happened in the match. Hope not though. Top Flight is Air Wolf from MLW, and his brother Angel Dorado. They're really good (and really young).

Why do that rather than make him this looming shadow that hangs over the promotion? Because they had other long term booking and didn't plan 100% for a signing that may or may not have happened? They've got another 4 years on TNT. Let's not blow the wad on each and every talent in the first two.

Casey
Boy, that Road to Dynamite they posted last night really wants to make you believe that Wardlow is going to beat Hangman. I love Hangman, but I wouldn't be mad at that. Give him the Brock Lesnar push.
Dirty J.
I call shenanigans so Hangman can lose without hurting his cred. Omega vs Hangman in the finals seems too obvious.
Godfrey
Great Road To. Wardlow immediately made himself a more interesting challenger that anyone else in the tournament, playing off MJF would be great and they already have some dissention teased. He can talk on his own but if MJF could act as his manager too it would be a fantastic combo until the inevitable split. Since Page and Omega have unfinished business and Penta isn't even supposed to be in the tournament still, I could see giving it to the big man. Plus I've maintained the next champion should be someone without a WWE history and he's a great option, better even than Eddie Kingston as much as I like him. For Great Justice
Cutler/Avalon on Dark just now was a joyous, wonderful romp. That was great! Gave me WeeLC vibes.

NikoBaltimore
Cutler/Avalon really should have been the main event. That was so goddamn fun to watch and we lost our minds. They really had one of my favorite stories by far and was very happy with the payoff.
For Great Justice
Dark was a blast this week. You got the usual great commentary and squashiness, but also they threw in a little bit of storyline progression. Love me some Dark. Easy listening, man. The muthaship.
Jiji
Caught a bit of Dark, mostly for the blowoff to Cutler and Avalon's 8 month feud. I love D&D but even I think Cutler is a fucking dork. lol. Fun match though. If you don't have a spot for a guy like Avalon to mug it up, get some low brow heeling in, and lose in entertaining fashion, then you suck at putting together a wrestling show. I also saw the Bunny and Kingston segment. When did Bunny turn on QT Marshaaaahll? Did I miss something on Dynamite or was this a Dark angle? Casey
I believe it happened last week on Dark. She distracted QT when she came out with Kingston, and he lost his match or something. It’s a Dark angle, and honestly that’s where it belongs.

Casey
I'm going to say I highly doubt Thunder Rosa signs with WWE. Anyway - luchablog is saying that instead of Matt Sydal as the joker entry in the Casino Battle Royale, it was supposed to be Nick F'N Gage (and then he got injured). EDIT: Well, fuck me. Uncle Meltzer says he thinks Rosa is WWE bound. He heard 2-3 weeks ago that Deeb was winning the title and Rosa was going to WWE, and "the first part just happened". He says if Rosa was going to AEW, she could have kept the title, so this lends credibility to that I suppose. Craig H
Nick Gage in AEW is something that 18 year old me in an EC F'N W shirt would think is fucking awesome and shows how hardcore AEW is, but 40 year old me in a Chuck and Trent in Sue's van shirt doesn't see how Nick Gage in AEW even works. I like Gage a whole lot more than Jimmy Havoc, but it seems like it would just be like signing Jimmy Havoc again. EVA
I mean, Rosa/Deeb very much felt like a “leaving the territory” match, so Rosa is obviously going somewhere. And if the NWA is cool with their champ being signed to AEW, then there would’ve been no need to move the belt off Rosa, if that’s where she was going.

Dark squash matches until indies return. I wouldn't sign him, because I mean, what are you gonna do? He can't cut Nick Gage promos on fucking TNT. But he can on YouTube (to a degree) and Twitter and stuff. Matt Sydal isn't signed (yet?), but that's essentially what he's doing. Just enhancement talent matches on Dark.
