Also, something my wife pointed out - didn't one of the stipulations in the contract Moxley and MJF signed last week say that Sterling had to win his match in order for MJF to get his title match?

Nah, the stip was only that Sterling had to wrestle Moxley and, if he refused, MJF wouldn't get the match.

Thoughts on the show!

Who knew Jake was so anti-nut?  Jake says Relax, Don't Do It

Very good in-ring show.  BF vs PnP was exactly what it was supposed to be.  Crazy brawl with PnP cheating to win in the end and probably keep the program going.  Nice.

The 8 man was excellent.  Serious, maybe not as trusting Bucks?  Nice.  Marq Quen has a god damn sweet shooting star.  JR, please stop telling us how Jungle Boy could absorb punishment and be a more effective wrestler if he just gained weight.  Especially when another guy in the match, if not two (PP) are smaller than Perry.

The women's match was indeed the best women's match we've seen in a while.  It did go a little longer than it needed to, I think, but still very good.  Sign Serena.

Jericho/Janela was what it was supposed to be.  Nice post-match angle.  Two bladejobs on one show.  I seriously think we're close to Vince bringing back blood because his next justification for AEW getting number is "they're allowed to do blood and guts pal!  We need to be able to compete!"

Mox/Sterling was great.  Perfectly laid out with excellent talking by Mox.  "Come on!  You went to college."  Good reactions by Wardlow as well.

Either turn down the handheld cameras' mics or tell the workers to call shit better.  I heard spot calling in the women's match and also the aforementioned GO FUCKIN NUTS.

Taz, Jake, and Kingston all talking over each other was meh.  Kingston just shutting Jake up was great, though.  I didn't need a two segment "WWE lumberjack match breaks down into a brawl to promote the upcoming battle royale" thing.  Not a great segment.  I think Jake is kind of shot and they should keep him in pretapes, lest he keep talking about ejaculation.

More harping on JR: I know it'll never change, but enough with referencing really old shit.  Last week (or the week before?) it was Ray Stevens and the Bomb's Away.  This week, it was Jack Briscoe and Lawler/Kaufman.  Whenever this happens, I look back to when WWF was blowing up in the 80s.  Did McMahon or Ventura, on commentary, ever even reference wrestling from the decade before, let alone something 40 years old?  Christ.  Also, don't wonder aloud whether Sterling will shit his pants.  You're not working to make Vince happy anymore.  While promoting the schedule of events Saturday, he made a joke about not being invited to the red carpet, I think?  And then stumbled all over himself and the promo piece never recovered.  I don't want to be "bitching about JR" guy every week but he is seriously awful.

"When Cody is not on screen, everybody has to ask, 'where's Cody?'"  ?

Kenny/Hangman/FTR is just perfect.  Hell yes.  Also, nice Hana tribute.

So happy Excalibur is back!  What's the Venn diagram between "avid PWG followers" and "AEW viewers?"  Because fuck the people outside the circle, I personally love when he drops "15%!" during a Bucks match and gets excited over the Falcon Arrow.

Almost Pants-Free JR alert: "We're gonna see what's under that jacket!  We're gonna see what's under that shirt!  We're gonna see......what's in his heart"  Uhhhhh okay.

Really good show overall and the PPV is stacked!

Meltzer and Alvarez are out of their fucking minds. For starters, you have Dave defending the bullshit from Tuesday. On top of that, you have them both calling Dynamite the weakest one of the year because there were too many promos or because the people attending were placed near the top and the show didn't sound hot enough. Keep in mind that their criticism of go home shows in the past have been the lack of promos for the final build to the PPV.

I personally thought it was a really awesome go home show that delivered why you should want to see Jericho vs OC, Kenny and Hangman vs FTR, Moxley vs MJF, Sammy vs Matt Hardy, and even the fucking battle royal. They got me legit interested in seeing the boys trade forearms for 15 minutes or so mainly because I want to see who Archer and other hosses fight against.

Looking at Wiki, I was surprised to see that Serena Deeb is only 34. Thought she was in her early 40s. AEW should consider her for a wrestler/backstage role, as the match with TR was one of the best women's matches they've had in months. (And TR has participated in two of the top TV women's matches in the U.S. this year -- I can definitely see it be three if the Shida match goes well this weekend).

Cringed at JR mentioning that DDP and Serena should hook up because both are yoga practitioners. JR also referring to the "Jurassic Express" as the "Lucha Express" had me shaking my head, although I'm intrigued at the potential of the Young Bucks taking on Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy.

I haven't listened to the whole show yet but that sounds so dumb.  This was exactly what a go-home show is supposed to be.

I know, right! I was just shaking my head. I kinda figured Meltzer would have liked the 4 way match and wouldn't have a problem with the finish because he loves Gargano, Ciampa, Cole, and Finn. I like them all too, but there was nothing new in that match and ending it in a draw sucks. And then as they're actually reviewing the show, they're both constantly like, "this was really good" or "great promo" and stuff like that.

I did enjoy last week with Jericho on commentary, whenever JR would name drop someone from the Good Ol' Days, Jericho would name someone even more obscure.

I can completely understand a thumbs up or down here.  Tho, overall, a thumbs up from my viewing.  The in ring was solid (Rosa-Deeb, 8 man, and opening tag).  The angles were a mixed bag.  The Baker-Swole segment was good.  Glad they're keeping this match to the (rarely worth watching) buy in.  Casino BR segment was sloppy and stale.  I expect the match to be as forgettable, but I hope to be wrong.  Not to say the Omega promo was anything special, but he should really be given a mic a lot more often than he is.  This segment with FTR and Page was alright, but seemed to suffer from a lack of crowd heat.  Stoked for this match - for me the reason to see All Out.

I have hopes for OC-Jericho.  Dug the squashing of Janela.  Tho, Jericho's flurry strike offense is awful.  Not to say his strikes are awful just the flurries.  I still say Janela is being under utilized in that his real talent is as a talker, and he'd be an excellent heel manager/wrestler.  His persona reeks of scumbag heel, and I'm not sure why they're so intent on him being a babyface.

Mox-MJef got turned up a little this week.  It seems a long time coming.  The MJef cartoon act with the campaign, neckbrace and walker was not effective in making me want to see him challenge the champion.  And I had no interest in seeing Mox fight the lawyer.  Moxley, as he does, did his best, but I just really didn't care.  The post beatdown kinda made me more interested in Wardlow getting a shot.  But MJef looked good here.  Finally.  I'm interested in Mox-MJF, but really weak overall build.

Also, that Dark Order 8 man preview video was terrific.  Sammy-Matt was fine.  I hope they're able to exceed my low expectations.  Jurassix-Bucks could be a darkhorse on this show.  I liked the serious Bucks this week and in general they've been really strong lately (this week they made me interested in seeing them battle the stale as stale SCU).  Anyway, looking forward to the PPV, but unlike previous shows not really expecting to be blown away.

Upon his return, Excalibur indeed showed his ability to reel in the commentary.  I'd underestimated his role on the team.  Nice to have him back in the fold.

I hate to keep harping on it, but that's not even close to the worst Dynamite of the year. That ignores all of the episodes of Dynamite that occurred from QT Marshall's school. Those weren't bad, but they don't even compare to any of the shows that have been at Daily's Place. Hell, the live Dynamite from 2 or 3 weeks ago was worse.

Ultimately it doesn't matter and it's just their opinion, but it's just a reminder of how inconsistent their reviews are.

Agreed, it was a really good go home show in as much as it sold the PPV well even if it wasn't the best episode on its own. Mox/lawyer was too long before the beat down. The big brawl was too chaotic, I appreciate the attempt but that needed to be produced better. I also appreciate the stories told in matches like the 8-man but the actual AEW house style isn't my favorite and sometimes my eyes glaze over with this many skinny dudes flying around, and I really don't want to hear that Luchasaurus thinks he's the best hot tag in the biz. I dug Thunder Rosa/Serena Deeb, I get why the crowd was quiet, if you only watch AEW and WWE then outside of two short vignettes for Rosa, these are two unknowns. Easily match of the night though and Rosa/Shida should be sick.

Joey Janella is better than this showing. My opinion is he's not being used properly at all. He is not a straight match wrestler, tag team or not, he's a personality. That said, AEW has proven that patience pays off and there's nothing to say that getting trounced here isn't the start of something new for Joey.

I can understand the criticisms. The battle royal schmoz was the exact same segment WWE runs every year before the Rumble, where we're supposed to believe everyone in the match just happens to be wandering by, and they all decide to have beef at once (in a world where, simultaneously, no one ever comes out to save each other or get a piece during beatdowns).

And in a company where the wrestling is supposed to matter the most, they put champion vs. lawyer in the main? I understand it's there to promote the PPV title match, but that's about as Monday Night Raw as it gets. Even had Ross and the dark pants line.

Serena Deeb would be AEW's best acquisition of 2020.

She would help but let's not go crazy. It was a pretty good match with still some awkward moments. They got on separate pages halfway through and Deeb basically put herself in a straight jacket for Rosa.

They have signed Kingston and Starks in 2020.

It is interesting to see younger and progressive fans shit on AEW as a whole because they don't feature bad women's wrestling on TV. Voices of Wrestling did an article on how they've managed the division that I agree with entirely.

While I criticize JR a lot, I don't understand his hesitance in saying this was the best women's match in some time and seeming like he was worried he'd get flak for it.  He was right.  Maybe he was afraid that saying it would be putting down the whole division since it was two outsiders?

It's really too bad whatever happened with Kylie Rae happened because she was supposed to be the focus of the division when they started.

Yup to both of those things. He didn't want to say our best women's match in forever features two women not contracted to the company. It was the best I've seen since Nyla and Shida at the last ppv by a lot though.

The Voices of Wrestling article talks about how the young talent will "emerge," but says nothing of how. Growth doesn't happen in a vacuum. You learn by being in the ring with veteran talent, and Deeb is by all reports a great trainer in general, behind the scenes. She could potentially whip the entire division into shape 10 times faster than would happen otherwise. Kingston and Starks are two individuals who aren't even on every show.

Do they have a training facility for Deeb to do said training? There's Cody's school in Georgia but I can't imagine that being a thing for most of the people who live in Florida to get to every day. So it would be working matches with the roster. While from what I've seen, Deeb is a fine, solid pro wrestler, and perhaps an even better trainer, I'm skeptical as to how she'll have that big of an impact beyond AEW creating their own performance center. It's not as if people like Omega are not giving feedback to the women on the roster right now. They do need their own YouTube show though or a secondary show on TV where it's women only. We agree they need more reps, for sure.

Best Friends attacked their opponents before the match and immediately lose their advantage. Chuck ignores his partner getting beat on so he can build a stack of chairs that he immediatey ate. Those dudes did everything in their power to lose that match before the bell even rang.

You could say they were so pissed off and out for revenge that they lost focus, playing right into PnP's hands, leading to the loss.  ?  Santana and Ortiz, master manipulators in need of a win, got the Best Friends off their game and took advantage.

JR’s line about at least there not being pineapple on the pizza was hilarious and the line of the night.

Of course you’d be an Excalibur fan. Excalibur sounds like an insurance salesman doing commentary and makes lots of references to a niche indy promotion that most people have never watched, so it’s confusing to casual fans of a national promotion trying to grow into something big that lasts.

Also, just SMH at being thrilled about a reference to 15% (In PWG in 2014 the Young Bucks did...) and bitching about JR making Ray Stevens’ references.

The JR hate is getting to be clownish.
