It's hard to state a best match from the Women's division as few have been on any sort of high quality level 'best'.  For me anyway.  But I was into Riho's run for the high fun factor level.  The Nyla match like a lot of Riho's run were pretty dull to start, but Riho had some sort of  late match heat surge magic.  The division has been pretty much in shambles from the beginning, but Riho brought some great energy to the title fights.  The Emi Sakura match from an earlier PPV may have been my favorite - other than some that rank higher in the late match surge department.  Unlike a lot of our DVDvr posters I loved Emi Sakura.

I really miss Emi Sakura and would love to see her back. And watching their Full Gear match live was a treat.  The crowd didn't react well at first but about halfway through they started to get into it pretty good.

Yeaaaah, if they could add Riho, Sakazaki, and Sakura as well as Hayter even on part-time bases that would go a long way in helping. They're not miracle workers but they were churning out "pretty good to sometimes even great in the case of Riho" which is a lot better than "oh boy," which we've gotten quite a bit the past few months.

The only joshi wrestler that absolutely needs to return once they're able is Shoko Nakajima. It's a travesty that we've only gotten two matches from her in AEW. I like her a lot more than Riho or Emi or Yuka.

A big problem with the Women's division is there's never really been a good story-line dedicated to the champion.  Like the Riho/Emi match, Emi did a lot better job on her Twitter setting up their match than AEW ever tried.  Brit and Big Swole's feud has gotten way more attention than anything Shida has gotten.

I don't remember these complaints when Rey was beating 300 lb guys on occasion.   Also, Nyla did beat Riho eventually- it was sold as Nyla being green/overconfident the first time.

You don’t have a very good memory then. And while Mysterio is obviously short he was thickly built and back in the early 00’s he came to a gym my friend worked at and he was benching 315(!) so he’s strong as f. Also, the moves Rey was doing in the late 90’s weren’t done by practically everyone as they are today because of how many wrestlers grew up watching the first hour of Nitro.

I don’t think PAC is more than a few inches taller than Rey but people don’t say that because how thickly built and jacked he is.

You can’t say the same things about people Riho or Marko Stunt whose existences are always justified by Mysterio. They don’t do moves nobody else does and there is nothing else physically impressive you can point to.

I would generally agree with more story, but as of this current roster I think I'd prefer simple match set-ups.  Rosa-Shida didn't have any more story than who they are and who they rep, and it was more exciting to me than anything they've done since Riho's run.  The Baker-Swole feud was certainly more creative than anything Shida's had, but it felt like a waste knowing the end result was a match between Baker and Swole.  Yeah, I too look forward to the much needed returns of the international contigent.  I also hope they start elevating some of the clearly better workers like Swole II, Ivelisse, Kilynn King and especially Tay Conti.  I like Nyla too, but she's just spinning her wheels right now.

From what I saw of Nakajima in TJP a couple years back and what she showed in AEW, I would disagree that she has separated herself from the pack by any means. Do you have any recommendations?

Excited for Tay Conti to come on board and count me in as hopeful we get some international stars back soon but let's be real, the level of talent isn't the only thing holding back the division, there's been a lack of proper management from the jump.

Since her appearance in AEW? Oh I have no clue, I just remember going back and watching some stuff after that tag match with Britt Baker and I liked what I saw. I did the same thing with Emi and Riho, but surprisingly haven't seen that much of Yuka.

I still want Maki Itoh to pop up in AEW, though.

Me too but I feel like that should be down the road when there are hopefully 3 or 4 capable workers in the division that can carry her. She's gotten way better in the ring but still would be more of what they already have, a charismatic but green wrestler. Her cussing would be amazing on Dark and you could do pre-tapes and bleep her out. That could build up to her getting a live mic on Dynamite and make the censor sweat.

Seeing Maki demand respect from Nyla would be fun.  That could be a fun feud.

Observer:

Quote

The early estimates for the show based on streaming orders through B/R Live and FITE TV, which the company gets right away, look like the show will do numbers at the level of the February 29, 2020 Revolution, or 100,000 to 110,000 buys. So it looks to be the third or fourth largest of the company’s six PPV shows to date.

It’s down probably 10 to 15 percent from the 2020 Double or Nothing company record (the largest for a non-WWE pro wrestling PPV show in 21 years), so it was back at normal levels for an AEW show. But one would think the number of people getting together to watch together is down as compared to prior shows, so that’s a negative, but on the flip side, I think most expected a number a little under average based on the lineup and the build.

I would agree. There was no killer draw match and the main event featured a homegrown guy who is still very much a project. To be honest, they don't have a killer clear obvious big ppv match, even the Omega/Moxley rematch, at this time. Maybe a rubber match between the two if Omega wins and is started to be positioned as a star? Jericho vs. Moxley was probably the biggest match they had.

Finally got around to watching some parts and leaving the rest for my birthday this week.

The Baker match had me laughing, quite a bit of silliness like the leg going numb and the Van Daminator-esque elbow through the diploma. Jim and Tony just chuckling through everything was the icing on the cake I felt

Sammy vs Matt- GODDAMN son! Nuff said bout the "spot" so I'll try to go another direction with it. That bit at the start with Sammy in the golf cart had me ROARING but then we get Matt escaping and jeez, that deflated me. I  remember the Hardys mentioning in their autobiography that Matt had Jimmy legs or something but please for as long as he continues with cinematic style matches or whatever PLEASE no more running away sequences for Matt. Speaking of, holy fuck but that DDT onto the table, fucking winced for Sammy on that spot?

Poor, poor fucking Matt. Crashpads meant for tall drop spots need to be bigger in the future period, if they're going to insist on contuing more backstage high drop crashpad spots. Give them bigger crashpads to land on if they wont kill those spots.

Casino battle royale. So much nice looking sequences and elimination spots. Had to rewind a few times because I missed shit in one corner watching something else on another part of the screen. Great stuff I felt.

Only other one i watched was tag belt match, blown away by the action. Sarcastic question time: If the FTR are all bout No Flips Just Fists what's up with that swinging DDT that Cash kept busting out? Recall seeing that mostly in Nitro luchador spotfests, that's a lucha style "durrrr I hate flips" type spot, no?
