This wasn’t the go home show.

It felt like one, but I forgot that Mox will get to cripple MJF's attorney on the actual go home show next week.

Sciavone and I are losing track of time apparently. We are old.

Looks like Tay Conti got signed then. Good. Dark Order doing the Coffin Dance meme was unexpected, but I'll take it. People were wondering if Chuck's leg injury was legit because the finish seemed abrupt and afterwards everyone just sort of stood around like they weren't sure what they should have been doing. But if someone's legit injured, you avoid working the injured bodypart so as to not exacerbate, right?

Smart Mark Sterling will be in a full body cast this time next week.

You do if you are fucking sloppy.  In the US you usually don't work around a legit injury but if Chuck had suffered a real knee injury in the middle of the match, I'd expect guys as ring savvy as FTR to go after the leg as not to expose the business and still work light enough as not to further injure Chuck.

I think Chuck's knee may have been a little tweaked as FTR elected to finish with a leglock on the ground that keeps Chuck from having to move around too much on a bad wheel.  If you are FTR, you definitely don't use your normal finisher on a guy with a bum knee as you don't want Chuck absorbing the bump from that fucking elevated codebreaker.

I forgot to mention that in my ramblings. I really like how they're trying to blur the line between kayfabe and reality with these injury angles. I like that we're questioning this stuff in 2020. I think it was obviously a work (brother), because in America you don't work an injury as you mentioned and it played into the story well and gave Best Friends, the babyfaces, an out in their loss which is good booking. It felt a bit abrupt but that's fine. The match wasn't anything special anyway.

OH! And if you're going to splurge and rent some lawnmowers for a reference to a BTE gag, make sure you fucking explain why it happened on air. No way Excalibur doesn't know what's up and explains it for us. Uno probably could have done it too but yeah... Poor Hangman. It certainly does appear to be raining shit on Adam Page.

And speaking of Hangman looked like he had some eye makeup on to make it look like he hadn't slept for days and was coming down form a king sized bender. Nice touch. Hangman turning but being worked into it because of his own self-doubt and lack of confidence and alcoholism leading him into trusting shady, opportunistic bad people is awesome storytelling. I love all of that shit.

That was a neat little bit in a messy angle. Darby jumping off a bridge too. WTF dude?

You know Mark Briscoe is going to be pissed about it since he told Jay in that Briscoes ROH documentary that he could do it in Delaware and Jay told him he would die.

Rebel needs to stick to make-up or the odd squash. It sucks that Penelope botched because she’s been doing so good especially after the Shida match. But I’m still enjoying Baker and her cronies against Swole.

Glad to see Conti signed. Now the Dark Order have 99 and 100 lol and I liked the shot of Ivelisse and Diamonte checking them out. Could we see a rivalry?

im so ready for Shida/Rosa. That should be awesome

The timing of their live episodes is really off. Main event gets under 10 minutes and includes a picture-in-picture break? Not good.

Production missed Cassidy jumping on Jericho too. The director has been doing this shit for over 30 years. No excuse for this.

Good things:

Brodie Lee's segment.

8 man tag and Kingston promo.

Tay Conti "joining" the DO. I get a feeling she won't actually end up a member. She has been a surprisingly good addition to the roster. Never got enough air time in NXT to gauge what she brings to the table.

Bucks promo on Page. Made me want to see Page beat the fuck out of those two.

Archer killing jobbers is always good.

Coach Tony K losing an argument to Ryan Satin on twitter as the show was in progress. Maybe this fucked up the timing of the show. ?

Bad things:

contract signing. WWE level tripe, but that's what MJF has been for this entire feud.

Women's match was ROUGH.

Main event not getting enough time and a commercial break in the middle of an already short match.

Confusing things:

Why did Hangman interfere in the match? He and Kenny already beat the Bucks, so the being scared of losing thing makes no sense. Did FTR put him up to it? The Shadow might know, but I don't.

In-the-middle things:

Jericho on commentary. Moments of goodness, followed by him screaming over JR and Skeeavone. This might be turning into the law of diminishing returns.

Tag gauntlet never really kicked into gear. Not bad, but not good.

They set it up last week with FTR playing Page. They said Adam didn't want to get overshadowed by the Bucks again, hence why he tried to stop them from winning the match. I'm glad they didn't beat us over the head with that one.

In what I’m sure isn’t just a coincidence - that Camelot line by Jericho during the replay of the finish for Best Friends vs the Bucks was a callback to a Cody promo in Japan from when he first joined Bullet Club. I’m sure that line was specifically fed to him by someone, probably Tony Khan because his wrestling brain is like a sponge.

Also, Page costing the Bucks the match sort of mirrored (ha!) how Kenny cost Ibushi his match against AJ Styles all those years ago. Reluctant distractions.

There was a lot to love on this show.   I've never seen anything quite like Dark Order.  I really like how they do their mix of goofy heel and serious bloody thirsty demons.  Mr. Brodie Lee is the perfect leader for them I don't think it would work as well with anyone else.  I love the energy he is bringing to all this.

I really liked the contract signing,  say what you will about MJF but I think he knocked that promo out of the park again tonight.  I don't expect the match itself to be great but him and Mox have been great on the mic in this build so it does have me looking forward to it.  That's all I needed.

Still loving what they are doing with Page but damn the acting skills from the Bucks need some work.

I guess I have to touch on Rebel and Penelope Ford out there..   that was really bad.  Like, really bad.  Maybe it was an off night.

Hardy and Sammy Guevara was good,  that was a lot of blood spilled out there.

Hangman Page is the patsy in this storyline. FTR is guiding him down a path where it leaves Page bloody at the PPV without his tag title.

Page is a tremendously built up sympathetic figure who doesn’t think he is good enough to hang around the elite and is a good nature cowboy (Virginia) who is getting sucked in by fellow southern boys (North Carolina). This is some high level long term story telling by AEW which will provide multiple payoffs.

Brilliant.

I dug the opening guantlet up to the Hangman interference.  'FTR playing Hangman like a fiddle' makes Page look like a fool, and I don't see a good enough reason for it.  An inevitable feud with the FTR?  Does it need to happen from Page looking so weak?  This all feels like it's draining the momentum he created as a give no fucks boozey asskicker.  The later Bucks confrontation was just embarrassing.  'You're out of the Elite!'  Was Matt crying?  OMG!  And then the corny mirror shatter to finish.  I mean, maybe I'll come back to this and appreciate it as being the great wrestlecrap it is.

All that said, the Bucks were werkin the NNs and Besties nicely before the interference.  And I dug FTR beating the shit out of the BFs.  The Taylor knee injury was good storytelling.  But Holy shit!!! Rick Knox completely dropped the ball in not directing traffic there.  He wasn't counting because Wheeler was the legal man, but then decided to go with it anyway and looked like a complete failure.  Jericho's commentary brought the necessary burial together nicely.  Ugh, soo awful.  Anyway, I like seeing a winner like Tully with winners like the FTR.

The Archer squash was fun until he hit that shitty finisher, or pre-finisher.  I'd like to see him focus on the Claw-Slam into a headbash on the mat.  Archer's theme music is just horrible.  But kinda hilarious seeing a man of his age being repped by teeny bopper emo buttrock.  Jake promo was alright if a bit ramble-y.  Pretty funny dig on team FTW being the Flintstones.  I wish team FTW would have double teamed Archer for a bit before Darby hit the ring. Instead we get Archer and Cage oggling each other and hardly needing to be broken up.  Very Awkward.  The Starks-Allin brawl however was a vibrant affair.  I wish those two were having a straight up singles match.  It's gonna be hard to get excited for a Casino Battle Royal match considering how sloppy and just plain bad both have thus far been.

The contract signing was an unfunny awkward slog for me.  MJef seemed way off.  Having to play to this cartoon booking has not been in his favour.  What the fuck with the Zandig reference?  That's gotta be MJef ribbing Moxley.  The Tully reference does seem placed for a future reason.  Mox has had some good promos recently, but this convoluted contract stipulation was just dumb.  Really, he cares so much about fighting MJef's play lawyer?   I really wanted to care about a Moxley-MJef title match.

Women's title match package was okay.  I didn't really feel like we saw enough big highlights.  Nice to get Corgan's audio approval in there, and I love the idea of AEW working with the NWA.  Haven't seen enough Thunder Rosa to expect much from this match, but we know Shida will be game.  The staredown photo op finish to this video was cute.  And kinda lame.

I just couldn't bring myself to give a shit about the 8 man or the handi-cap match.  So to the main event; which is sad as I'm a Gueverra fan, but I don't enjoy watching Matt hobble around the ring.  They really oughta push him to the sidelines to become a coach.  I hope tonight's decisive loss takes him there.  He may have another match in him, but he looks like he needs to take some exteneded time to rehab some pretty serious ailments.

The Dark Order segment was okay.  Uno is capable on the mic, but the lawn mowers shit should stick to BTE.  Brodie was good here.  The segment got super cliched with the run-ins.  Why is Scorpio Sky out there?  I liked Cardona well enough in the tag with Cody, but he's looked really goofy during his two run-ins.

I found a lot of the booking this week really hard to get behind.

Tay Conti signing was a highlight this week.  I would have thought going in Jericho on commentary would be another highlight.  Whether substance induced or not he was terribly unfocused.  I did like that he claimed that he 'likes Jim (Ross)' - that's certainly a heel alignment these days.  His entrance was also fun and indeed felt like some sort of return.  The OC brawl to close was okay.  Love OC's fire, and didn't mind the cameras being out of position.  It made the whole thing feel a bit spontaneous.  Despite the goofy gimmick, I really hope they can bounce back with a strong rubber match.

Great to hear fans singing Judas again. Liked having Archer back on Dynamite and the setup with him and Cage was good stuff. With all the Rocky 3 talk last week, I hope that's the route they go with Cody eventually returning for ultimate babyface revenge... I want training montages. MJF mentioning New Jack, that's who I wanna see in AEW.  Awesome video package for Shida/Thunder, huge potential in that one.  Love that they seem to be keeping TayJay together, they clicked so well as a team. Main event was fun and bloody but very short.

I think next week's lawyer maiming will be something like Stone Cold's feud with McMahon and Mox will just beat the shit out of someone we'd all like to murder and also send a message to MJF of This Is Going To Happen To You.  Almost like when Mox kayfabe tried to break 10's arm before his title match with Brodie Lee.

All of that blah blah blah and smark talk from MJF meant little to nothing to me.  The most impactful line in that whole diatribe was Mox's simple, "You are a dead man."
