Having worked off and on for Turner over the years (left there for good last year), I can tell you that, once the AT&T merger was approved, something like this was expected -- streaming and linear departments being combined, executives on the linear side being pushed away, etc.

"Content" is one of the big buzzwords in modern media these days. Media groups want content, and lots of it. And if it gets plenty of eyes, even better. AEW has eyes, a lot more than some prognosticators thought would happen when Dynamite launched. At the very least, WarnerMedia should consider some kind of AEW content on HBO Max, whether launching a second show on the streamer or other unique content.

WarnerMedia also seems to be doubling down on 18-49 demo content, having committed itself to the NBA, MLB playoffs, expanding the Impractical Jokers franchise, etc. They also announced plans to a do an American version of the UK game "The Cube" with Dwyane Wade hosting and producing. AEW fits in that demo content so, at least to me, it would seem foolish to try and break any deals.

Yeah, regime changes like this happen a lot at a lot of major media companies. And in the whole IP/content game, I think AEW has sort of proven itself to some degree where it can be OK for a while. At least for now.

Right, all this.  You can't really compare this to the regime change at Turner that led to WCW being cancelled.  One, we're in a totally different media landscape right now.  Everything is so fragmented that companies want anything that gets eyeballs.  WWE is on Fox today and they never got a sniff from Fox in the late 90s at their hottest. Two, AEW is not a division of Turner like WCW was and is not in financial freefall like WCW was.

Ivelisse and Diamante vs. Dasha Gonzalez & Rachel Ellering has been announced for tonight's episode of the Deadly Draw. The Winners of that match will face the Nightmare Sisters in the semi Finals and which means Anna Jay/Taynara Conti will face the winners of the other match of which we know nothing about.

Really interesting timing that Dasha's part of this.  For one that's awesome as she was thinking about it when it was brought up on Jericho's podcast.  And her last appearance on Titan Games was last night where they kept saying she's a former wrestler.  So I'm curious to see what she brings to the table but she at least has one helluva partner.  Unfortunately it seems obvious to me that Diamante and Ivelisse will move on though I will be rooting for Dasha/Rachael.

To add fuel to the proverbial Jericho/Sturgis fire, Cody tweeted and deleted the following statement:

I don't know what power AEW/Tony Khan can take here with Jericho's contract. But it sounds like they should maybe delay the OC/Jericho rematch to be on the safe side. At least two weeks. But not my call.

Then what do they do with everyone else on their show who they know not to be following health guidelines?

He's their biggest star. They'll test him and if he passes they'll have the match. Beyond that, he may get the lightest talking to imaginable. Sans a positive test, they ain't postponing shit.

Middle-aged managers just couldn’t go a year without their Peter Fonda/Jax Teller LARPfest?

Don't forget the other faction of methed-out white supremacists who probably already have diseases worse than COVID, and are the real backbone of that shitfest

The Swole Family vs. Bates/Chanel match was way better than I expected it to be, despite Chanel doing whatever the fuck it is she is doing.

She needs to ditch the gimmick.  She works stiff.

Nicole Savoy is a bad fucking dude, and I wish they would have just let her be herself, instead of being "Lil Swole". She's almost a head taller than Monroe, anyway. Also, nice touch on her wearing the VFIII armband for Virgil Flynn.

Rache Chanel could be a whole lot of fun with some more work under her belt. Whatever the fuck that character is, she absolutely understands it. I think it's real fucking dumb, but she is working it real well.

She throws strikes like she means them, or doesn't understand how to work them. A little bit of fine-tuning could go a long way with her. Maybe she can learn some Euro style matwork, and use the heavy shots as exclamation points.

So, anyone still think Matt Hardy bladed? Might as well change his name to Matt Hardway.

Shit, you can even see his COVID wristband fly off too. More and more I'm starting to think someone from AEW lurks/posts here, because I don't think there was THAT much discussion about "DID HE OR DIDN'T HE BLADE" during that particular exchange with Sammy.

Regarding Matt they showed a couple angles of the chair throw on BTE.  Maybe he bladed but from what I saw there I'm not so sure.

As for the women's tournament I liked the matches a good bit.  Dasha looked good and I would be thrilled to see them sign Rachel.  Same goes for Savoy who can really stand out with that style she has.  I almost didn't recognize her as last I saw her she was much more serious in MYC.  Had no idea she was Lil Swole but it was fun seeing her and Big Swole having fun and kicking ass.  If not for the Nightmare Sisters I would see them winning it all.

Re: Rache Chanel.  The gimmick is a bit too goofy as is, but with some fine tuning could work.   I think she might have something.  Goofiness aside, she’s far more interesting than most of what they’re currently offering.

Lil Swole was impressive too.  They absolutely need to shoot her to the top.  They really oughta have her dump Big Swole and join up with Baker as a new charge.  Let her get the rub from Britt’s excellent character work.  And the sister fight could be a good story.

I hope they haven’t given up on Kilynn King.  She looked really good against Abadon a week ago.

Rachel Ellering it seems is coming off a serious injury, and tho she didn’t exactly impress here, I’m curious to see what she might be able to offer after a few bouts.

Dasha doesn’t seem ready for the cameras at all, but it’s hard not to see that try as very heartwarming. I mean everybody needs time.  Maybe there’s something there down the road.

Ivelisse seems to me to have something.  I’m reading some heat on her attitude, but her work looks good.  I hope she can bring it all together as she seems to me to be a potential bright spot.

Again, enjoyed seeing the ladies this week not juxtaposed with the more experienced and polished men.  The action at times is obviously really weak, but it’s not taking time away from anything better.  They absolutely would benefit from having this turn into a separate YouTube show.  The ladies need the ring time and reps.   That said, I hope they can iron out some of the awkward silliness and seemingly absent creative/production.  Whatever the case, seems like there’s an effort happening to improve things.

Are they officially The Swole Family? Because Swole Sisters is right there.

Can't step on the Nightmare Sisters' gimmick ?

Or it could be an issue like WWE's short lived Submission Sorority, like "Swole Sisters" is already in use.  I don't want to Google it to find out!

I've seen a few "I don't know who Rache Chanel is but I'm obsessed with her" tweets, so I'll go out on a limb and say it's a character designed to appeal to people other than the stereotypical straight white male audience.

nb: My twitter feed is quite black and very gay.  I need to start following some female porn actresses or something. Balance the algorithm.
