RIPPA
Remaining Magic Numbers for Playoffs Berths (just for a berth, not including division titles) AL (6 spots remain) Twins - 2 Athletics - 2 Yankees - 3 Indians - 6 Blue Jays - 7 Astros - 8 Note - the only other team in contention is the Mariners who are 3 games behind Houston for 2nd in the West and 4 1/2 games behind Toronto for the final WC. (They lose all tiebreakers). So for all intents and purposes - the AL teams are set. NL (7 spots remain) Padres - 3 Cubs - 5 Braves - 6 Marlins - 10 Brewers - 10 Giants - 10 Phillies - 11 Note - the Rockies, Reds, Cards and technically even the Mets are still in contention. There is wackiness thanks to the Cards having less games than everyone. More on that in a second.
RIPPA
Okay - I saw this on MLB.com so I am assuming it is close to fact. The Cards - assuming no more games get postponed - will finish at 58 games. If they are still in playoff hunt - they will have to play at least one (if not both) games against the Tigers on Mon, Sept

Beech27
Not that it goes back far, but he retires as the all-time leader in DRS at LF, and is a four-time Fielding Bible winner. 34.7 bWAR for his career, with an average of 5.95 from 2011 through 2014. So... hall of not-quite very good, but still whatever the tier below that is, which isn't bad. And a great story to reach that point, being the can't-miss uber-prospect at 3B (Brett said the early comparisons flattered him) who grew up a Royals fan, then busted hard, then remade himself into a deserving all-star. His game-tying home run off of Familia in Game 1 of the 2015 World Series is an all-time baseball memory, for me. Yeah, he certainly had a nice career though it didn't come close to matching the hype. 7-time Gold Glove winner who had a couple good years at the plate, too. Made a lot of money, won a World Series title. Can't complain at all.

RIPPA
The only remaining playoff berth in AL is Houston whose magic number is 1 for a spot That means the Mariners will continue to have the longest current playoff drought in MLB Assuming the Marlins don’t throw up on themselves and make the playoffs (their magic number is 2) - Seattle will be the only MLB team with a streak longer than 10 years
cubbymark
The White Sox were in an uproar when Tim Anderson got HBP by the Royals because of a bat flip. The tables turned yesterday with Wilson Contreras of the Cubs who had the world’s highest bat flip last night. In his next at bat, he gets HBP by the White Sox’s Jimmy Cordero. The White Sox pitcher, their manager and pitching coach all got tossed. Jomboy hasn’t posted his analysis yet, so this will have to do.
BobbyWhioux
2 games left in the season and the Giants are actually still a .500 team. Might even weasel their way into the #8 seed if the Padres decide to get the JV some reps today and tomorrow Absolutely can't spit on that, given preseason expectations.
