The Washington Commanders Can Fuck Right Off

Over the weekend - the USA Today dropped a story (based on one anonymous owner) saying that all the owners were tired of Dan Snyder's shit

So in typical fashion, to deflect, the team today let it leak that they have spent $100 million on land in VA possibly for a new stadium

BTW - where they bought the land would be the one place WORSE for traffic than were they currently are.

Oh we are in peak "local reporters trying to explain how far away the actual proposed stadium actually is"

My second favorite thing is local reporters fighting with each other over where EXACTLY the stadium is because it is one of those areas that go by multiple names (because... reasons). (IT IS WOODBRIDGE NOT DUMFRIES! HOW DARE THEY SAY ITS IN WOODBRIDGE!!!! etc...)

It is pretty funny how the only serious selling point that team and it's supporters are saying now is "Hey at least now you can go to restaurants and bars and hotels and maybe even a casino near the stadium".   First of all that really doesn't say much about your team.   but regardless that is all fine and good but if you are going to a 1:00 game then you still to drive an extra 90 minutes (60 if they actually fix 95  ?  ).

Unless you are taking a day off work or live in Prince William County,  there is no way in hell you will watch this team on the weekday.   I mean you probably have to leave around 4 if you are an hour away currently now you have to deal with 95 during peak rush hour.

I can only hope the express lanes are always going in the wrong direction

Don't forget that Uber like surge charges that seem to happen on these express lanes.  I doubt you can get on these during game day at close to normal price

Aw, they got rid of the moat and surfing from the last set of mock-up drawings

I loved the idea of the moat however I am assuming someone finally realized "Yeah... probably not a good idea to have a moat around so many drunks"

Nothing beat the time I had to work super early in DC so I stayed overnight in Reston (company wouldn't pay for a DC Hotel), then expensing the morning Surge Toll on I66 of $45.  And that was like, 5 years ago.

I know nothing of DC geography, so is there a reason(other than the usual racist bullshit) they dont build a stadium in DC proper?

The only real place to put it in DC without eminient domaining neighborhoods or closing some of the national parks would be in the same general area that RFK is in, but the only highway near there is 295 and that particular stretch is NOT build to handle that much traffic (shit, it's not even built for the traffic it has now).

Because DC doesn't want to pay them where Maryland and Virginia are throwing various degrees of money at them

There is also an issue of not a lot of places to build the stadium in DC proper.

Replacing RFK (the stadium pre-Fed Ex) is the ideal solution however the land is owned by the Federal Government and they sure as fuck aren't cutting Dan Snyder a deal

Good to know. I thought there might be a lack of space, but I wasn't sure.

I mean, there's a couple huge swaths of land on different parts of Constitution Ave that I think would be better served to the public as football stadium, but that's a different discussion.

There is room in South East DC near where Nats Park and Audi Field area. The problem there is like Raziel mentioned, you would have to eminent domain a lot of the poorest areas of DC and to do that for Dan Snyder... hoo boy....

The closer (better???) Maryland solution is National Harbor where they recently build the Casino

The stadium would be technically in Maryland but the area is literally on the other side of the Potomac River (so like how MetLife Stadium is right on the other side of the Hudson River from NYC)

But this goes back to the outgoing Maryland administration doesn't want to give specifically Dan Snyder that many breaks and the new Virginia administration is ready to give Washington all the tax payers money

That site is literally walking distance from my house and let me tell you the infrastructure is not equipped to deal with the current traffic.  I can't think of a worse site for a football stadium in the entire metro area. There is no metro,  no possibility for metro, no real way to go around any traffic, nothing but chain restaurants,  and gridlock every damn day. I've lived in the area since 1995, and getting in and out of Woodbridge is about as bad as the traffic situation gets. It's just not built for the amount of traffic it gets,  and they want to add a football stadium.

A couple of Virginia state senators (one on each side of the aisle) both voiced yesterday that they wouldn't support funding for a new stadium

It is clear it is the usual grand standing (like one of the dudes is clearly bitter that the team changed its name)

But of course where it gets amusing for me is that Jack Del Rio couldn't help but run in to run his mouth off

The tweets from that senator are just painfully stupid.  OK, the location stuff is legit.  The stuff about the franchise itself is just such nonsense.

Del Rio had quite the day on Twitter

First he told someone to "bite deeez.." (nuts)

And then he congratulated Wes Unseld Jr on getting the Wizards job... Wes Jr started 10 months ago.

To be fair, with the way social media algorithms work, the news might have just appeared on his feed yesterday.

  • 2 weeks later...

Either Jack Del Dio needs to get off Twitter or get off whatever he is drinking or smoking because man this has a hell of a week to deal with.    I mean at least not have a shitty defense when you barrage us with this shit
