with the amount of flopping, do we need incentive for fake head injury flopping? even if they're playing in a desert and they need to rest because it's a million degrees every day and all..

as for the Iranian team... is singing the national anthem a widespread international thing?

To some, players singing the national anthem shows "how much they care." And if some players do and some don't, the ones that don't get criticized.

Italy is usually cited as the team where players most vociferously sing.

Spain is lucky to have a wordless anthem.

Could USA and Wales not be more than shite just to give the English at least a little bit of competition in that group?

Up until the goals, the 2nd half of the Holland-Senegal match was so bad it made even the eternally joyful Ally McCoist sound like he was commentating on a funeral.

Would this be the biggest upset since I dunno, 1950 (USA-England?)

It'll be up there. Still remember France vs. Senegal from 2002, France were defending champions. Korea Republic vs. Italy from the same tournament.

All over. Argentina 1-2 Saudi Arabia. Argentina's 36 match unbeaten run is done. Holy shit.

Germany over the Magnificent Magyars in the final four years later. Hungary had walloped them 8-3 in the group stage. Also known as the Miracle of Bern.

Insane

In a two-horse race. "Insane" is the right word.

And I don't think any Saudis having a bet were putting a lazy tenner on them...

Meh Argentina was paid off.  It's all about $$ and sportsbooks anymore. Saudi Arabia has the $$ to spend and Aregentina took a dive. They will still make the next round .  In a perfect word there would be no draws in the World Cup. Nothing worse than sitting for 90+ mins to watch a match end in a tie.

Two minor miracles so far in Mexico/Poland. Guillermo Ochoa saved a Robert Lewandowski penalty. Two, no audible chants from the Mexican fans that are FIFA no-nos.
