2020 Q3 TV DISCUSSION

I need to revisit the show because for whatever reason I never saw the final season (or seasons) - I can't remember which season was the last one I saw

Which ironically is the same thing that happened with the other SyFy show at the time Warehouse 13 - where I never saw the last season because everyone said it was shit so I never really sought it out

Its just been too long for me to remember how the last season of either show was. I don't think I disliked them, but I doubt i loved them either. Does remind that they were related. Them and one other show that was way the hell more serious as it was basically an X-men type of series.

Sessler has left the biz and flat out said he would never return if X-Play was rebooted.

And since Morgan Webb actually works for a video game company now - I am 99% sure is out.

Most of the folks I saw seemed to be old AOTS folks (minus Olivia Munn naturally). Take that for what it is worth.

Olivia Munn's pinned tweet is a response to the G4 revival tweet.

Random observation: is there an unwritten law that every crime series that lasts more than one season needs a Stranger on a Train episode? An excerpt from Wikipedia on crime shows with a Stranger on a Train episode: CSI (2x), NCIS, Castle, Bones, Law & Order, Due South ...

Blake Shelton said in an interview that they are going to attempt to tape the blind auditions for the next season of The Voice as normal next week (well as close to normal as possible)

Basically - there won't be an audience and it will probably be a skeleton crew with everyone social distanced

He did seem to imply that most likely the live shows will have to be how like the end of last season was (everyone performing from their houses)

This was an especially starfucky year for the Emmys.  All those Morning Show noms, The Mandalorian nominated for Best Drama...just a lot of desperate, “please watch our failing telecast” pandering.

You guys need to talk more about Bad Education, I Know This Much is True, Normal People, Self Made, The Kominksy Method, and Unbelievable, because I don't even know what any of those things are and I think I get most of my TV information here.

What's the comparison point to Ozark anyway? Just Breaking Bad? Fargo?

I can kind of see Mandalorian getting an nod even if just because of the giant leap forward SFX wise with the chamber they created:

Emmy nominations recap:

  • Bob Odenkirk not nominated for best actor in a drama
  • No directing nominations for Better Call Saul
  • No cinematography nominations for Better Call Saul
  • Still no Rhea Seehorn

What. The. Fuck. If Rhea Seehorn can't get nominated for ANYTHING from that season, then she'll never get nominated. She had one dynamite performance after another. The episode where Mike and Saul are stuck in the desert is enough material on its own to get all the nominations.

And yet the fucking Mandalorian got nominated?! THE MANDALORIAN?! There's like, what, 4 good episodes in that first season? Come the fuck on.

Ozark is playing in that same male anti-hero space as Sopranos and Breaking Bad with all the expected marital strife and rampant criminality thrown in. Don't take that to mean it's anywhere close to as good as the shows I name-checked there. Ozark is competent, but it's playing with familiar and almost-stale material. It matching Successions in nominations is baffling to me, and that's taking into account Ozark having a decent season. These voters see something in it I don't.

Kominsky Method is a Chuck Lorre show starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin. One of them is an acting coach. I could only handle about one episode. @EVA's starfucking explanation probably works here.

Unbelievable is a Netflix miniseries based on a real rape investigation. I hear it's pretty good.

I don't know what any of those other things are.

I’ll try to fill in the gaps Andy left.

Normal People:  Out-of-nowhere Hulu sensation about young, hot Irish kids fucking.  I’ve never watched it, but it seems like most top critics liked it a lot (surprisingly).  Seemed like a big deal this past spring.

I Know This Much Is True:  Awards-bait misery porn starring Mark Ruffalo as twins. (Mission accomplished!)

Bad Education: HBO film.  Kind of a dark comedy about Hugh Jackman as a shady school administrator trying to have the best school system in the country, or something.  Possibly based on a true story?

UNBELIEVABLE IS VERY GOOD.  If you can stomach the subject matter, it’s worth a watch.

Bad Education is a HBO movie with Hugh Jackman and Allison Janey, its based on a true story of Long Island school administrators embezzling money from their school district. It's good and worth the watch if you have HBO, Jackman is good in it and Janey is great as usual.

at least they got it right with WATCHMEN.  I thought Zendaya was nominated for Euphoria? @Mister TV

She was but that show should have gotten way more nominations, I get that the show isn’t in the Emmy voters demographic but it deserved to be nominated over at least Stranger Things or The Crown.

I loved the show.  I think it was episode 4 but whatever episode was the carnival episode was so well done..

I barely watch TV so I don't know what is good and what isn't but what is amusing to me is all the people you all are saying were snubbed vs Twitter that is all up in arms because Reese Witherspoon didn't get nominated

Special shout-out to Better Call Saul's one acting nomination going to Giancarlo Esposito for supporting actor rather than Timothy Dalton. Nobody watches any of these shows before they vote, right?

Correction: I meant Tony Dalton. Timothy Dalton is not in Better Call Saul. But if he was, I'm sure he'd be great.

He was nominated for that too.

Was On Becoming a God in Central Florida's season within this cycle or last year? Because if it was eligible, Kirsten Dunst should have been nom'ed. Ted Levine too.
