JULY 2020 WRESTLING DISCUSSION

Recommended Posts

I genuinely don't remember when I first joined but I know it was pre-current forum version, because I only joined twitter when the board was down for an extended period. That was 7 years ago.

I do remember that I started as a near-exclusive non-stick wrestling poster, yet somehow survived this to become the person you see before you today.

I joined cuz of the sleaze thread.

stayed cuz I recognized some people from other rasslin’ boards and because the discourse here was better than anywhere else that I’d been (mostly because not everyone is trying to get themselves over by being the most negative about everything)

It still is.

Sleaze thread also brought me here, though I was aware of the place for a while and came by when a thread or something got linked from elsewhere. Sometimes there are complaints about drama and unruliness on here, but as someone who has been posting on message boards since the 90s, this place is a paragon of civility and level headed discussion.

I've never been much of a fan of Cena as a wrestler, but with the hectic pace and lack of a personal life he's had over the past two decades, I hope he's able to slow down and do what he wants.

Yes. That was Mike Sweetser's brainchild.

Sad to say that in my less mature high school days, I had an account just for trolling him. I don't remember what it was that set me off but I did not care for him. Luckily, I grew up (somewhat) and realized I was stupid. It's crazy how long I've hung around these boards.

Same. I mainly lurked until one of the reboots of the board.

My previous “home” was CZWfans, which I loved in its prime, I kind of left after it shut and never really returned to ZandigFans when that started up.

It’s a different vibe on here to any other place on the internet and I put that down to the great moderators.  BS is not tolerated, and “that’s a good thing” </DDP voice>

There was that dude who Bix was harassing relentlessly, because he found out the guy also posted on a rape fantasy board. Now how Bix discovered this, I don't know. Maybe he just cyberstalked everyone looking for dirt. But he would not let up on the guy. Even though the rapey guy made it clear he was in a monogamous marriage, and it was his wife who liked him to pretend to be some sex criminal, rather than him actually stalking around public parks looking for people to drag into the bushes or whatever. But anyway. The guy couldn't post anything in any forum without Bix calling him a pervert et cetera.

Reminds me of the guy who found out someone here was in a swingers club... and posted the photos to prove it. I mean don't get me wrong, that's some next-level sleuthing... but talk about shit I could've gone my whole life without seeing.

Pretty sure it’s women, bud. Cis, trans, or otherwise.

This is why we need a DVDVR census because I still don't know how many black people we have, and I've been here at least fifteen years now. There is myself, Burgundy, supremebve, MADCAP since we got into a huge argument one time about blackness/race, and I think Execproducer (who can correct me if I'm wrong). Obviously, J.T.. There has to be more. That's five at least or maybe six though. There isn't the same number of women?

FWIW I just joined this message board because at that time (It was around the time WCW was sold), I was signing up for ANY or EVERY pro wrestling message board (2Wrestling, 3Wrestling, Aaron Rift's The Mayhem before it became NoDQ.com, then there was the site whose namesake when to jail for messing with an underage girl and the same message board with the racist users/his ardent followers I mentioned in the trash thread, etc, etc.) even if they only had 12 registered users. I only remember a select number because I was pretty much a lurker everywhere including here up until 2007. Being poor and broke as shit, I didn't really have any stable internet connection and when I did, I had to share it with a bunch of other family members/roommates. Therefore, I pretty much missed the MNW from an IWC standpoint. So I had a renewed interest around 2001 when I could finally get on and browse. I created a list of my favorite websites and bookmarked them. My routine was I would visit them all in sequential order for all the latest news and then I would hit the message boards.

To my shock one day, on IIRC ProWrestlingScoops in like the summer of 2002 one Saturday night, I got my first real scare that I still remember vividly. That website for whatever reason was like one of the first three sites I would visit. However, I didn't know pro wrestling websites weren't very fucking secure (I was young so sue me). I get to the homepage of the website, and someone had hacked it with giant, huge pictures from LemonParty.org. The articles and stories (and I think the header) were still there, but the upper portion of the website with the main newstories had been hacked. I was only there for maybe 15 seconds but it seemed like an eternity. I didn't know anything about the shock site/memes so I was grossed out, disturbed, and dumbfounded. Man, I scrubbed my browser history, hit that Exit button on my browser, and didn't get back on the internet for about 24 hours.

Fortunately, I haven't had any experiences like that here even though the board cannot run smooth for three days at a time. ?? That's why I still come here.

Which is silly in hindsight, because the conversations in that forum were some of the best on the board. Nearly everyone was respectful.

There used to be a guy who posted a superhero comic in the Miscellaneous subforum. The lead character was named Carl, I think. I believe it was a L.A. Park who posted them? They were great, I miss them.

Agreed on the porn board. Also, fuck Bix because he's the only asshole to block me from pro wrestling, MMA, or boxing besides "Fat" Dan Rafael. I don't even ever remember tweeting at Dan Rafael so I'm sure he saw a tweet dissing him I liked or he did a Twitter vanity search, which is what another person (a low level UK female grime rapper of all people who had some notoriety then & now fell off the face of the planet so haha you clown) did with me (though she didn't actually block me IIRC) when I first joined Twitter. That's how I found out what a vanity search is. LOL. There are some sad people on social media, boy. Anyway, not a fan of pockmarked face, manchild David Bixenspan and his grating poindexter voice. In the time since, I've became glad I can no longer see the bullshit he puts out into the world.

Speaking of old forums, what happened to the fantasy wrestling board? Lack of participation? People no longer giving a shit about E-Feds? Too much work? All the boards I mentioned and didn't mention specifically above that I was a part of had one. I remember the one here and the one from The Mayhem because those were above and beyond the shit you use to see on ProBoards.

I searched online for puroresu and found the reviews and that was twenty GODdamn years ago or so... Wild...

I read them before anything and I might've even been in junior high/middle school back then, all because death match stuff was being reviewed.

Tangent note, but it is interesting to see how strong UFC engagement has been of late. One of the reasons levelled at declining ratings (at least in AEW context) has been lack of interest in fight-based programming while there's such an aggressive climate on our own streets. This kind of puts paid to that. More about how product is positioned.
