You know who's been a real revelation for me on various shows I've watched on IWTV?  Dominic Garrini.  Previously, my only experience with him has been on MLW where I viewed him as a joke character.  I think it's because he worked in a gi there.  He's kind of short and chubby, so working in a gi, he looks like modern day Sean Astin playing in a family movie about a middle aged dad who teaches karate in a strip mall.   I mean he looks like a total goof in MLW.  Seeing him working as a total badass in better gear on these indy shows has been amazing.  Check out the latest BLP match where him and Kevin Ku win the belts from the Besties.  Just a tremendous match where you absolutely believe a fired up Garrini can straight up murder these fools.

I've really come around on Garrini, too.  He's always come off to me as the quiet, chubby kid at school who starts taking some martial arts classes.  Then one day, the bully tries some shit with him and Dom just embarrasses the guy.  After that, everyone is impressed by the quiet kid and he comes out of his shell.

Dude, check out the match on the show I mentioned (the latest BLP show, Threat Level Noon).  The Besties are killign Ku's leg for a long time for the heat and there's a point where Garrini gets in and you really feel like this smallish chubby dude can and will kill them absolutely to death.  In that moment he was scarier than Jacob Fatu.

I switched from Fubo to Sling so I no longer have the channel MLW was on.  I know they signed Ku so I hope they let Garrini wear his good gear and form Violence is Forever there.

Garrini grew on me a lot too. He was a guy that I heard a lot about and was excited to see, disappointed me a lot at first, but in the last year or so I've really turned around on him. I do think he needs to figure out his look though. I have no problem with his body, but nothing he wears really flatters him. I go back and forth on whether I prefer the gi or the shorts.  I know it doesn't quite fit the bjj/mma thing he has going, but maybe something like an amateur wrestling singlet? I don't know what I think about his entrance mask. It's pretty plain, so there doesn't see a point to wearing it out if he's just going to take it off to wrestle. Maybe a hood or a Taz-style towel instead or get a more elaborate mask and make more of a show of pulling it off? He's cool as shit otherwise and I love when he rocks the mullet.

Needs to choke more people with his purple belt.

Voting for the IWTV Awards is open. Lee Moriarty is up for Wrestler of the Year and has two matches up for MOTY, vs Alex Shelley (which I nominated and voted for) and vs Daniel Makabe.

Violence is Forever is the only thing I nom'd that made it, so I voted for AJ Gray, ViF, Moriarty/Shelley, 911 returns and the swimming pool battle royal

O'Shay Edwards vs Suge D from the latest Paradigm show was GREAT.  I've only seen Edwards twice, he's lost both (the other being vs Hoodfoot in a UWFI rules match), and in both matches he lost nothing at all and came off as a believable badass who just got caught in a fair fight.  Suge D was downright scary playing the "I've always been dangerous, don't downplay me because of Pineapple Pete" role, beating Edwards with a downright gross armbar after absorbing a beating.  Holy crap what a match.  I absolutely love when a wrestling match doesn't go exactly by formula.

Does anyone have any "really good stuff to watch" recommendations?  I've caught up on newer stuff I wanted to see and I'm currently watching a 2018 Glory Pro show that I heard has a good AJ Grey/ACH match on it.

What I like: good matches, crazy arcade style PWG shit, UWFI rules matches

What I don't like: deathmatches, matches with no ring, Jimmy Lloyd, Matthew Justice, intergender matches that are just dudes beating the fuck out of women

Thanks in advance!

Also, is intergender just a huge draw?  I've heard that one reason for it is that bookers will typically book one woman for a show but no more than one.  But I just saw a show that had intergender matches even though there were several women booked.  I'm not really a fan of it because it's typically done really poorly and we get Jimmly Lloyd stiffing and cutting up Elayna Black, but it sounds like there's a big market for it, and not just in foreign countries for dudes with limited access to porn.  What say you?

There's a big market for it. And not everyone in that market is a totally creepy sleazebag, it's only like 80%.

Most female Wrestlers point out that it's ridiculous that they spend months or years training against male Wrestlers, so it's stupid to suddenly stop wrestling men just because you're now in front of a paying audience.

Ok a few things on IWTV to watch.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Limitless The Road. Each ep is about an hour. Great wrestling. They do have intergender matches but they are well done. Plus it might be one intergender match every few episodes.

New South Pro Wrestling,North AL based fed. Lots of great wrestlers. They got a weekly show Action Clash that airs on Tuesdays.

Intergender matches get insane youtube views and if you read the comments, you can figure out where most of them are coming from. Someone else pointed this out awhile ago (@AxB?) that if you look at Beyond Wrestling's top videos on youtube, the intergender matches have ridiculous numbers. 230M for Chris Dickinson/Addy Starr, over 100M for a 2 minute clip of John Silver beating up Jordynne Grace, 77M for Toni Storm/Timothy Thatcher. The top all mens match is Orange Cassidey/David Starr with 2M. I don't think there are any mens matches not featuring Orange that are over 1M.

I like intergender matches, but there is definitely a crowd of dudes into them for icky ass reasons. I don't like matches that are strictly the guy beating the shit out of the girl, but you can still do a great match with the female wrestler fighting from underneath (Kylie Rae was great at this). My favourite match of the year period was Dickinson/Priscilla Kelly. Dickinson manhandles her for a good part of it, but he should be manhandling 90% of the people he faces. She does a great job of picking her spots and using her legs to land some sharp kicks and try to keep him at a distance. It's doubly impressive because it was over 100 degrees and you could see them struggling with it.

Maybe this isn't the thread to ask, but is there anything really really worthwhile on Highspots?  I switched from Highspots to IWTV a few months ago but I have some xmas money to spend.  What's on Highspots that IWTV doesn't have?  I know they have the PWG back catalog but I've seen every show of theirs since maybe 2010 anyway, and I'll buy their DVDs when they come back because I don't want to wait a year for a show.

What else on Highspots is worthwhile?  Any indies currently running that are exclusive to them?  I know they have AAW but they haven't run a show since February.  Anything else?  Thanks!

I had both for a long time. Highspots has all the shoots to listen to plus the highspots made documentaries. That is really all they have that IWTV doesn't.

So is Indiana back on lockdown/severe attendance restrictions?  The latest PPW shows (both the weekly UWFI series and their latest standalone show) all take place in an almost empty building.

They are.

The last match between Violence is Forever (Dom Garrini & Kevin Ku) and The Workhorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake) will be on the ACTION Wrestling show premiering on Thurs, Jan 14th at 8pm.

Though I am biased, It's a hell of a match, and all 4 talk to the mic afterward in some pretty emotional moments for them

Watched it last night.  Really good, thanks!  Suge D's segment on the show was very good and I'm really liking his new character.

I watched all of the PPW UWFI rules series (5 shows) and it was good.  Random ass thoughts:

I'm not sure how, logically, having UWFI rules matches works in the larger context of a regular-ass pro wrestling promotion.  Matches in the series are all booked to end in under 5 minutes like a real shoot probably would.  How does that make sense in the same company where you'd have a regular match and it could go 20 minutes?  Don't think too hard about it.

Isiah Broner comes off like a legit scary, badass dude.  They made the guy in one appearance and turned him into a contender for Hoodfoot's title just like that.

I like Lord Crewe and hope he sticks around.

Aaron Williams goes for Clockwork Orange but comes off as a middle aged drum major.

Flash Thompson plays his role as arrogant shithead who has some skills but is a wuss against better guys very well.

Squint and Tommy Kyle Dean (TKD) looks like Kazuo Yamazaki.

How long do you book Don't Die Miles as a lovable hard working young guy who is always getting his ass kicked before nobody cares?

I know staffing was an issue because of the pandemic but some guys, like Ron Mathis, have no ability to do a convincing worked shoot and shouldn't work this style of matches.

Yoya is tiny

Matthew Justice still sucks.  My above comment about guys who can't convincingly work this style applies.  Bonus thumbs down on the promotion for having him cut a "the bookers want me to promo about this but I'm saying what I want" style promo.  Ugh.

Overall a fun series of shows and worth your time.

I love IWTV so I hope nobody takes this wrong.  It seems like Vin and the crew have been more focused on deathmatch wrestling than anything else lately. Adding a lot of CZW, H20, ICW, and a few others and promoting the hell out of them.  Nothing wrong with it at all but I'd love to see more of a variety. Add some more AIW content, some Freelance, more Beyond. Basically mix it up more.  I don't mind deathmatch wrestling but there is only so much of it you can watch before you want/need a break from it.

It dawned on me recently that with me wanting to watch stuff from '93 on the network plus catching up on shows I haven't checked IWTV in a good while.  The deathmatch stuff sounds nice but at this point I may just need to cancel for a month or two.  Once I do resume it I want to try and check at least a couple matches from each promotion on the service.  It gives me an idea of all that's on there and might even be worth reporting on if I can stick with it.  But we'll see how it goes.

Agreed on Broner and Crewe.

I also love Big Beef.  First, that name!  I love it so much.  He looks like Francis from Pee Wee's Big Adventure got some tattoos and stopped being a whiny brat.  Also, my wife calls me "Beef" (I'm a dude in his early-40's who lifts weights but doesn't always eat so well.  I'm not fat, but I'm not cut, so my wife says I'm "beefy".) so his name cracks us up.

Am I crazy, or have most indie wrestling men (and women too, really) have settled into gimmicks/looks that are either a)Barber from that one shop where they do that one haircut that's real short on the sides and fades up into a longer part/angry barista (see Lord Crewe) or b)I'm a demon/kitty cat/anime character or c)Big black dude (can be fat and awesome (Hoodfoot, Tankman) or "beefy" and awesome (Broner, O'Shay Edwards))?

As far as the match length at Paradigm, I've thought the same thing.  It doesn't stand out as much when they do a full UWFi rules show, but it does when they have a show with them mixed with "normal" matches.  I do love the UWFi stuff, though. You can never really tune out on the match since the finish can come any time.  I like that, but it has its drawbacks, too.  For example, sometimes a finish head kick or something doesn't quite land and you're left wondering what happened.  For the most part, though, I really dig Paradigm.  They're doing something unique, and I appreciate that.  Once it's safe to do so, I'm definitely going to catch some of their shows live.  They run just a few minutes from me.  I wish I'd have had them on my radar pre-pandemic.
