paul sosnowski
I was at that Chikara show. We thought Lince had actually passed away. There was horrible screaming from his mother or girlfirend coming from the backstage area after they took him out of the ring. It was terrifying

Jiji
That is horrifying. But at least he would've went out protecting the business, brother.

elizium
With Spandex (site or twitter) hasn't had an update since posting the Smackdown results last week and Brandon Stroud has shut down his twitter. The UproxxSports twitter hasn't said if any changes are coming and I don't feel like scrolling through 5 days worth of posts on the regular Uproxx twitter to see if they've addressed it. I'm assuming since there hasn't been anything that all the other writers bailed. This was the 2nd time he was outed as a creep yeah? I remember something a few years ago about inappropriate contact with female talent and swiping nudes.
jaedmc
I've never heard that Lince story. Fucking horrifying. I don't think I've seen a big injury live and I'm pretty thankful for that.
Curt McGirt
I still remember Bagwell getting his neck broken and WCW filming the whole fucking thing in real time including the stretchering. Then them just continuing with the show.

Stroud was basically their entire show, with the other writers working on a month per month basis, and most of them are saying they are out after June. odessasteps
Just remembered that Alvarez also worked that Lince show. People from the board were supposed to meet up with him after the show. I recall him describing how things were backstage.
Niners Fan in CT
I was there the night Roman Reigns announced he has cancer and that was easily the saddest moment I've ever had at a live wrestling event. I'm so glad Roman protected himself from these empty arena shows and I hope his name never pops up here.

I was the building for what I thought was going to be a catastrophic injury though, when BJ Whitmer slipped giving Jimmy Jacobs a superbomb and they crashed to the floor. I would've sworn in that moment that Jimmy would never wrestle again at best. Then he just... Continued the match and was fine. Whitmer actually wound up with an ankle or foot injury but nothing real serious iirc.

Phantom Lord
Bull James got accused of being basically stalkerish with a 17 year old female wrestler. And as such, NYWC has just fired him from all his duties.

Speaking as someone who was really big into Chikara and was on the edge of vomiting when the rumors about Quack selling out were spreading; don’t feel bad. This is the kind of shit that had to happen so that wrestling can be safe and not feel like a minefield for more vulnerable people. If Chikara has to die so the business could be less rotten, then it’s a worthy trade off.

It still hadn't felt real yet. It's kinda getting there, and I'm actually looking up some of the work of the young guys coming up through the Wrestlefactory because I keep hearing about how the newest generation might not be as talented as some of the early ones (which, to be fair, the talent CHIKARA put out in it's first decade is actually kinda remarkable), there are a lot of hard workers people think don't deserve having there dreams ruined. That's been more what has had me on edge and almost feeling reluctant about what went down. But then I realized it had to happen, and hopefully all these young talents can create what they want on their terms, not on some asshole.

Three schools in the area opened their doors to the Chikara students who hadn’t finished their courses, so they still have a choice should they decide to continue training. I’m a regular and talk to many of the younger guys, and let me tell you, I’m so proud of them for making a stand and going with their hearts. The kids are alright.
Casey
Who counts as the “new generation” anyway? Saying they’re worse than the previous generation or whatever is a pretty subjective thing, and depending on who is lumped into that group, I don’t know if I agree either. And besides that, most of them probably haven’t been working as long as the previous talent, either.

And besides that, most of them probably haven’t been working as long as the previous talent, either. I kinda view the CHIKARA graduates in 3 eras. The first is the original era, back when it was primarily a small indy. Probably the first 3 years or so. Hallowicked, Ultramantis Black, Jigsaw, Eddie Kingston, Icarus, Gran Akuma, and Larry Sweeney are pretty clearly the standouts from that group, with a bunch of other guys who didn't have the staying power (Shane Storm lasted and actually was decent as STIGMA, Mister ZERO was fun if not for the real life career, Blind Rage was super talented but also had outside stuff, and Rorshach always felt like he could have done more) as well as guys who were… you know, there for a bit (Dragonfly, DJ Skittlez) You might even be able to put Claudio here if you want but it gets iffy. Second Era kinda starts to me at the forming of the Kings of Wrestling and ends when CHIKARA dissolves for Quacks divorce. Top graduates from that group would be Fire Ant (Orange Cassidy), Soldier Ant (Drew Gulak), Ophidian, Amasis, Tim Donst, Frightmare, Lince Dorado, Dasher Hatfield, and maybe Vin Gerard (Vin is an odd one to rank, as he felt essential until he wasn't) This group is pretty comparable to Group 1 in retrospect, though I think OC and Gulak are the best of the group. It's an interesting discussion to make if you think they were better then the best of the 1st class (Eddie, Wicked, Jigsaw, and Sweeney). This was also the era were CHIKARA was bringing in awesome outside talent to be regulars all the time. Cheech and Cloudy, The Olsen Twins (Jimmy Olsen was really good but left the industry after his CHIKARA run), Brodie Lee, Ricochet, Chuck Tayler, Johnny Gargano, and so on. This was the promotions peak, and they didn't graduate many guys in this run who were not at least pretty good. Third Era is basically post the original closure. And I will say it is by far the era I'm least knowledgable about. I actually thought Ashley Remmington/Dalton Castle was a CHIKARA graduate, but he was only technically I guess which means he probably wouldn't be the best. I've seen limited work from the rest but I'm not sure how many of them could really be ranked pure talent wise with the higher end CHIKARA graduates of the past. I could be wrong on that, and it certainly took some of the names above a while to really find there footing (Dasher Hatfield was super awkward as Create a Wrestler and Ultimate Breakfast before he found a hit with Dasher and became a much better wrestler. Vin Gerard as Equinox was... really not good but I enjoyed him a good deal with the Vin heel turn). But I will say from what I've seen nobody has really jumped off the page the way that Wicked, Kingston, Jigsaw, The Colony, or the Portal did when they started to get going. This was a long rant at almost 2 AM and I need to start to sleep more.
