can't imagine this show did any kind of decent buyrate, given the weakness of the card.

0.13

Think that was WCW's lowest PPV buyrate ever.

I was actually there! My friend and I won free tickets. The local radio station was doing a promo and I remember they had an interview with Konnan the day before the ppv. Nothing special, just the usual shill stuff. Don't remember much about the show except that Vampiro was pretty over (well as over as you can be with 4000 people or however many it was) and Steiner's return got a pretty big pop. The chokeslam that Wall did on Bigelow looked pretty funny b/c as my friend remarked, "don't you have to have a neck to be chokeslammed?" Looked more like a double-chin slam.

Spring Stampede 2000 4/16-From Chicago-Opening video focuses on the reset WCW and the New Blood/Millionaires Club feud. I don't think Hogan realized what it meant when he said he was going to "eat Bischoff's ass". You're welcome for that mental picture.-Uncle Eric is pacing because Hogan checked himself out of the hospital, and could show up tonight. Russo & Kidman (w/Torrie draped all over him) try to get Eric to relax.-Hosts are Tony, Madden, & Scott Hudson-Hudson talks about Bischoff & Russo stacking the deck in favor of the New Blood in the title tournaments/matches. Madden can't wait for Jarrett to beat "DDMe" for the world title, then Tony & Hudson talk about the refs being ordered to relax, but not completely throw out, the DQ rules.-Match 1: The Mamalukes (w/Disco Inferno) VS Team Package (Ric Flair & Lex Luger w/Liz) [Tag Title Tournament Match]-Before Team Package enters, Mean Gene gets some words from Flair, who is in his street clothes, because it's a fight for survival tonight. After their entrance, Russo comes out and complains that the match isn't even because it's two very experienced veterans against two "rookies", so Russo adds the Harris twins to the Mamalukes' team. The Mamalukes go after Flair while the Harris twins go after Luger. As the twins take Luger outside, Flair manages a comeback against the Mamalukes and gets the figure 4 on Johnny, before releasing the hold and getting kicked in the face by Vito. They settle into tag formula and Flair plays FIP for a bit, including a false tag. Disco rams Luger into the post, and gets dropped by LIZ for it. Two random guys come out and take Disco away after that.Flair makes the hot tag to Luger, and Team Package cleans house. It boils down to Johnny VS Luger, and Johnny hits a springboard clothesline for two, but gets caught and racked for the submission shortly after that. This was decent enough.-Mean Gene interviews Mike Awesome, who is the surprise 8th man in the U.S. title tournament. Awesome delivers his usual awful promo until he's interrupted by Bam Bam Bigelow. Their confrontation is as badly acted as any I've ever seen. Bam Bam turns his back, and is promptly jumped by Awesome.-A video recaps the *sigh* Jimmy Hart/Mancow feud. Mancow's wannabe-bad ass image isn't helped when he has to swear revenge after taking an ass-kicking from JIMMY HART. Oh, and that his name is fucking "Mancow".-Match 2: Jimmy Hart (w/Hail) VS Mancow (w/entourage)-Tony mentions that Mancow's entourage includes Al Roker Jr. and a man called "Turd". Mancow gets the early jump, but Hail provides a distraction which allows Jimmy to go low. Poor Slick Johnson has to sell it when Mancow pulls him in the way of a big splash from Jimmy. Hail gets involved and tosses Mancow onto the entourage. Jimmy sends Hail to the back, but Mancow gets a chair and cracks Jimmy across the back for the pin. At least this was short.-Kidman comes out to add injury to insult for Little Jimmy.-Russo is PISSED at the Mamalukes and Harris twins.-Match 3: The Wall VS Scott Steiner [united States Championship Tournament First Round Match]-It's so weird to see BPP come out to "Steinerline". It's mostly punch-kick offense for the first couple minutes, with a low blow for each thrown in. They go outside, where Wall sends BPP into the guardrail so hard a section moves a few feet. They fight over putting one another through a table. BPP counters a chokeslam with a double eye poke then puts Slick in between them, and the blinded Wall chokeslams Slick through the table, earning a DQ. Cute finish, and I understand wanting to protect The Wall at this point.-Mean Gene interviews The Cat, who would rather dance than fight Mike Awesome. Bam Bam jumps The Cat and beats him down.-Match 4: Mike Awesome VS The Cat [united States Championship Tournament First Round Match]-Bam Bam jumps Awesome, taking Cat's place in the match. Awesome hits a sweet suicide dive, landing on his feet. Bam Bam whips Awesome into the guardrail, and Awesome is shown on camera warning the nearby fans to move, so he can backdrop Bam Bam right where they were, then follow with a dive. Back in the ring, Bam Bam blocks a side suplex, and hits a diving headbutt before calling for the Greetings from Asbury Park. The Cat runs out and kicks Bam Bam out of the ring. The Cat opts to dance, which allows Awesome to wipe him out and finish with a frog splash. OK then.-Uncle Eric is still stressing out over Hogan.-Mean Gene interviews Buff & Douglas, who consider Harlem Heat 2000 a minor roadblock before taking care of Flair & Luger.-Match 5: Harlem Heat 2000 (w/J. Biggs & Cash) VS Buff Bagwell & Shane Douglas-HH2K dominate the early going. Buff sells taking two moves like it was a ten minute heat segment before making the supposed hot tag to Douglas. HH manage to double-team Shane as Cash takes out Buff, but Shane goes low on Big T, and finishes Stevie with a slightly-botched Pittsburgh Plunge. The losers argue after the match. This went maybe two minutes.-Mean Gene interviews Booker, who only agrees with the New Blood when it comes to getting opportunities.-Match 6: Booker VS Sting [united States Championship Tournament First Round Match]-To illustrate the brisk pace of this show so far, this match is taking place 50 minutes into the show, including the opening video and rundown from the announce team. Sting hits a quick hiptoss, then after absorbing a couple blows, responds and knocks Booker outside. They fight at the announce table, and Booker hot shots Sting onto the table to gain control.Booker works Sting over, and hits the axe kick for two. Sting avoids a Harlem side kick and hits a DDT for two. Sting hits a Stinger Splash, but a second is countered with a kick. Booker goes for a suplex, but Sting counters into the SDD for the pin. This was pretty good for the time given, but announcers sounded really fucking stupid talking about what a great match it was and how each guy had thrown everything he had at the other five minutes into a six minute match.-Booker calls Sting back into the ring, and gives him a fist bump.-Mean Gene talks to Uncle Eric who tries to not stress about Hogan showing up, then Kidman says he'll put Hogan back in the hospital.-Match 7: Vampiro VS Kidman (w/Torrie) [united States Championship Tournament First Round Match]-Kidman whiffs on a charge right at the bell, and Vampiro takes advantage, dominating the opening minutes. Kidman comes back with a rana, but goes for corner punches, which Vampiro counters into a HUGE release powerbomb. Kidman comes right back, and hits a slingshot guillotine legdrop for two. Vampiro comes back with a urinage for two, but tries to POWERBOMB KIDMAN...again...and that move only works once on Kidman, if at all. They briefly go outside, then when they get back in, Vampiro lands a couple nice kicks for two. Kidman hits a DDT, and Hogan conveniently arrives. Hogan casually beats the shit out of Kidman (to a scarily large crowd reaction), which doesn't draw a DQ. Hogan slams Kidman through the announce table, then rolls him in the ring for the easy Vampiro pin. This was what it was.-Hogan gets on the house mic and says he's coming for Bischoff.-Eric wants to take off, but Russo talks him into staying in their office.-Hogan storms around backstage until he finds Eric. Just when Hogan looks like he's going to kill Bischoff, Russo returns with cops, who end up all drawing their guns on Hogan (as Russo yells "DON'T ARREST HIM, SHOOT HIM!"), then arresting him.-Terry Funk is looking for Norman, and Terry Taylor tells Funk Norman is in catering. Funk gets there, and finds Norman in the men's room. So much for Norman being brave.-Match 8 for the Hardcore Championship: Terry Funk VS Norman Smiley-Terry beats the shit out of Norman in catering, but Norman takes control once they get into the kitchen. They move around backstage, with Norman in control in Funk grabs a laptop and drills Norman on the top of the head for two. In a cute bit, Norman hangs from pipes on the ceiling until Funk hits him with a chair, and Norman falls through a table. As they make their way back to the ring, Norman takes control with several unprotected chairshots to the head.In the ring, Norman tries to wiggle with Terry, who breaks that up with a chairshot. As Funk prepares to do nasty things to Norman with a ladder, Dustin Rhodes interferes. Funk manages to hold him off long enough to drop the ladder from inside the ring onto Norman who's outside, and get the pin. This was pretty entertaining, and definitely MOTN so far.-Russo tells Booker to stop pissing Eric off, and tells Booker he needs a favor.-Match 9: Mike Awesome VS Scott Steiner [united States Championship Tournament Semi-Final Match]-BPP gets an immediate takedown, then a big clothesline. Awesome comes back with a slingshot shoulder block, followed by a big splash for two. They trade moves for a minute until the crowd pops big for Kevin Nash's walk-in. He cracks Awesome across the back with a crutch, and BPP gets the Recliner for the submisson.-Russo (w/Booker for protection) fires Dustin Rhodes for letting Funk win the hardcore title, claiming that Dustin was only someone when he was Goldust, which Russo takes credit for creating.-Match 10: Vampiro VS Sting [united States Championship Tournament Semi-Final Match]-Vampiro jumps Sting as Sting gets in the ring and lands several kicks, but Sting fires back with punches to take control. They go outside, where Sting hits a chairshot to the back. Back in, Sting hits a slam and a big splash for two. Back outside, Sting misses a Stinger Splash and crashes into the guardrail, allowing Vampiro to retake control. Back in, Vampiro hits a belly-to-back suplex for two. Vampiro hits a suplex for two, but misses on a kick from the top, and Sting finishes with the SDD followed by the Deathlock for the submission. Way too short for what's supposed to be a very personal match, but with as many matches on this show as there are, it's expected.-Mean Gene interviews DDP, with Kim. DDP wants to kill Jarrett for hitting Kim with a guitar.-Shane Helms & Shannon Moore "perform" (no Evan) in advance of the "Suicide 6 Man" for the Cruiserweight title.-Match 11 for the Cruiserweight Championship: VS Shannon Moore VS Lash LeRoux VS The Artist (w/Paisley) VS Crowbar (w/Daffney) VS Chris Candido VS Juventud Guerrera-The match gets jump-started when the other guys interrupt a 3 Count encore. If you've ever seen an RoH Survival of the Fittest final, it's kinda like that, with two guys in the ring and the other four in the corners.Crowbar gets a Northern Lights suplex for two. Juvy gets the Juvy Driver on Lash, but The Artist makes the save. Crowbar gets Daffney involved, but she accidentally hits him with the Frankenscreamer. Just about everyone ends up outside. Helms tries to get involved, but David Flair cuts him off. It ends up being Candido VS The Artist. The Artist hits a modified Angle Slam and calls for a chair from Paisley, but Tammy Sytch pulls The Artist off the ropes, and he hits his head on the chair, allowing Candido to get the pin and the title. Was just starting to get interesting when it ended.-Tammy & Paisely have a cat fight. Shannon tries to pull them apart, and gets a testicular claw from Tammy for his troubles.-Mean Gene interviews Jeff Jarrett, who says his usual.-Match 12 for the World Tag Team Championship: Team Package (w/Liz) VS Buff Bagwell & Shane Douglas (w/Vince Russo)-Russo joins the announce table. Luger starts with Buff, then with Douglas. Flair gets in with Douglas, but takes a poke to the eye, and Douglas tags Buff. Flair plays FIP for a while. Douglas pounds on Flair, including a clothesline after a Flair Flip. Luger hits Douglas with a clothesline, and that allows Flair to make the tag.The match breaks down, and Buff accidentally hits Shane with the Blockbuster. Russo pulls Nick Patrick out at two, then KroniK make their return to WCW with a double-team chokeslam on Luger, and Buff gets the pin with Russo counting. This was a match. The most interesting thing was the crew playing up the years of hatred between Douglas & Flair.-Mean Gene interviews BPP, who says he represents himself, not the New Blood, then after BPP's entrance, he interviews Sting, who says BPP will be the next casualty in the NB/MC war.-Match 13 for the United States Championship: Scott Steiner VS Sting-Sting sends BPP outside. BPP tries to call timeout, but Sting hits a slingshot dive. Once they get back in, BPP takes control, hitting a throw then sliding outside to jaw with the fans. Sting fights off a throw from the top, then hits a Stinger Splash. He goes for the second, but BPP pulls the ref in the way. A third hits, but a fourth is prevented when Vampiro reaches through the ring to grab him and pull him down. Vampiro & BPP pull the KO'd Sting out, and BPP finishes with the Recliner. Not much of a match.-The crew talk about the main event.-A video previews DDP/Jarrett.-Match 14 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Jeff Jarrett VS DDP (w/Kim)-DDP gets the early jump, including a hiptoss counter into a DDT for two. They go outside where Kim slaps Jarrett, then into the crowd. DDP, for the most part, keeps control out there, but stops to chug a fan's drink, and Jarrett hits a low blow to turn the tide. Back at ringside, Jarrett uses Kim as a shield in order to hit a cheap shot. Back in the ring, DDP hits a spinning clothesline, but gets crotched when he goes up top, and Jarrett follows up with a superplex.Jarrett grabs a chair and hits a couple shots to DDP's injured back. DDP hits a back elbow, then a sit-out powerbomb for two as Bischoff comes out. They fight some more at ringside, where Jarrett grabs a copy of DDP's book and tears out some pages before tossing it back. Jarrett crotches DDP on the post, but ends up eating the post on a second attempt. DDP turns it around and crotches Jarrett the first chance he gets. DDP goes for the Cutter, but Jarrett grabs the ropes to block. Jarrett KO's DDP with the belt, but that only gets two.Jarrett gets the figure 4 as Kim grabs the guitar. DDP stays in the hold for a while before getting to the ropes. DDP gets a couple rollups for two, then hits a urinage for two. Jarrett gets a sleeper, but DDP reverses and hits a sleeper drop as Bischoff distracts the ref. DDP hits the Cutter and calls Kim in the ring. She, of course KO's DDP with the guitar, and Jarrett finishes with The Stroke to win his first world title. Pretty good main event, even with the obvious "swerve".-The New Blood celebrate to close the show.-FINAL THOUGHTS: This was all about the angles, with not a whole lot of wrestling of consequence, because there were so many matches booked. If you can tolerate Bischoff & Russo making themselves the top heels of the company, it's a pretty watchable show, aside from the unneeded dreak of Jimmy/Mancow.-NEXT EVENT: Slamboree 2000

Slamboree 2000 5/2-From Kansas City, MO-ON THUNDER: Eric Bischoff challenges Ric Flair to bring his buddies into the ring for an 11-on-11 fight. Flair talks Uncle Eric into accepting a battle royale, with the winner getting a world title shot at the Great American Bash. Flair wins it, with Randy Savage making his return to help at one point.-The Millionaires' Club bus arrives, and the New Blood react.-Opening video runs down the major matches, including David Arquette defending the world title against Jarrett & DDP in the three-tiered cage match.-Hosts are Tony, Madden, & Hudson-Match 1 for the Cruiserweight Championship: Chris Candido [c] (w/Tammy) VS The Artist (w/Paisley)-They do some really choreographed chain wrestling to start, then The Artist does the corner punches before throwing Candido outside. They go outside for a while and onto the entrance ramp, which is making it's return on this show. Candido grabs a chair, but opts for a piledriver on the ramp, which The Artist counters, and they go back in the ring. The Artist hits a rana, but Candido comes back with a rollup for two. Candido sends The Artist outside, but Artist blocks an outside-in suplex, and drops Candido on the floor.Back in, and Candido goes low, but the Artist soon hits an awkward powerbomb. Candido blocks the flying DDT, but The Artist then grabs the ropes to block a super rana. They botch a flying sunset flip, then The Artist hits a Samoan drop from the second rope. Tammy distracts the ref, leading to Paisley going after her. Tammy grabs the chair and swings at Paisley, hitting The Artist. That gets two, but the bell rings and Candido's music starts. Candido hits a piledriver and finishes with a diving headbutt soon after anyway. Decent enough.-Tammy straps the belt (which looks like a toy replica) around Candido's waist. Paisley goes after her, and slaps Candido. The Artist holds Tammy, and Paisley removes her dress.-The crew talk about the main event. The second level will have a bunch of weapons, and the third will have guitars.-A video hypes the hardcore title match...by showing Terry Funk (the champion) repeatedly getting his ass kicked.-Match 2 for the Hardcore Championship: Terry Funk [c] VS Norman Smiley & a Mystery Partner-Funk looks for Norman in a bathroom again, but finds the masked mystery partner, and gets sprayed with a fire extinguisher by Norman. Norman beats the shit out of Terry all around the backstage area. Terry sends Norman into the interview set, which collapses, and Norman makes with the screaming. Madden makes gay jokes about Norman and his partner as Terry starts hitting Norman with whatever is nearby. The crew talk about how useless the mystery partner is as Norman takes control and gets a couple near-falls.The mystery partner finally hits Terry with a trash can, which Terry rightfully no-sells before hitting him back. Terry takes care of Norman, and walks the mystery partner towards the ring. The mask falls off to reveal Ralphus. Terry knocks Ralphus over the ropes, then pulls his pants down directly in sight of the announce team. Norman gets back as the crew try not to throw up at the sight of his ass. Norman does the Big Wiggle on Funk, then tries to get Ralphus to do it, but Funk stops that with a chairshot. Terry chairs Ralphus down, then gets a schoolboy on Norman for the pin. This was the usual Norman hardcore fun, but I could have lived a long full life without seeing Ralphus' ass and Norman & Ralphus pretending to sodomize Funk.-Norman & Ralphus dance, despite the loss.-Mean Gene badgers David Arquette about not arriving with the Millionaires' Club because Courtney gets a million per episode from "Friends". David gets annoyed and says he has his own money, before admitting he's scared about the match.-Match 3: Shawn Stasiak VS Curt Hennig-When I think "perfection", I think of the guy who was "Meat" a few months before this. They do some basic wrestling mixed in with stalling for the first couple minutes. The Misfits in Action (sans DeMott) are shown at ringside, having been recently fired. Stasiak takes clear control, choking Hennig with a cable, then hitting a flying clothesline for two. They go onto the ramp, where Curt can't slam Stasiak because his back is hurt, and Stasiak sends Curt back inside.Stasiak applies a sleeper, but Hennig gets out and makes his comeback. Stasiak hits a slingshot (which shockingly does not send Curt into the post), and finishes with the PerfectPlex. Nice of Curt to try to put Stasiak over big, but the match was no great shakes, and it ended up not meaning much.-Scott Steiner works out in the NB lockerroom, but when Russo tries to psych him up, BPP coldly tells Russo to keep his hands off.-Match 4 for the United States Championship: Scott Steiner [c] (w/Midajah & Random Hooch Named Shakira) VS Hugh Morrus-DeMott gets on the mic and says he doesn't want to be called "Hugh Morrus" anymore because Bischoff gave it to him to make him look stupid, so he wants to go by his "real name" Hugh G. Rection, or "Captain Rection" for short. Because that's SO MUCH BETTER. BPP has his more familiar "siren" music. Sharkira is sadly not the singer. They exchange punches and chops to start, then Rection blocks a hiptoss and hits a clothesline, so BPP takes a powder. BPP takes advantage when Rection is distracted by the hooches, but that doesn't last long, and Rection hits a spinning heel kick for two. Rection hits a flying elbow off the top, but stupidly goes for the moonsault where the girls are while BPP has the ref, and they crotch him to help BPP retake control. BPP hits an elbow drop for two, and immediately goes after the ref. BPP hits a belly-to-belly for two, and chases the ref outside.BPP applies a bearhug, then hits an overhead throw when Rection won't go out. He decides to pose instead of following up, allowing Rection a small flurry. BPP goes for a tombstone, but Rection counters into the Owen Hart version, and goes for the moonsault. The girls get in the way, but Rection does the moonsault anyway. BPP is late moving, and gets Rection's legs across his back and almost on his neck. Rection sells it as a whiffed moonsault, and BPP applies the Recliner to retain. This was pretty good after the silly name change promo by DeMott.-BPP won't let go, and the MIA have to be held back by R & B Security. Booker runs out and makes the save.-Mean Gene interviews Kanyon, who backed DDP against the New Blood because he considers DDP a brother.-Match 5: Mike Awesome VS Kanyon-Kanyon gets the early jump as the crowd is distracted by something off-camera. Awesome sends Kanyon outside, and hits a suicide dive. Kanyon comes back and hits a baseball slide, sending Awesome's ribs into the post. Anyone know what the deal is with Kanyon's "Champaigne" nickname? Awesome makes a comeback of his own, and hits a flying clothesline for two. They go outside, where Awesome gets a chair, and works the ribs and back.Awesome sends Kanyon into the crowd, and slams him on the floor before choking him with a cable. Back in, Awesome hits a slingshot splash for two. They go outside again for a moment, then back in Kanyon hits a top rope neckbreaker for two. Kanyon hits a cross-body off the top, but Awesome rolls through and hooks the tights for two. Kanyon hits a flapjack for two, but tries to powerbomb Awesome, who counters into an Alabama Slam.Awesome powerbombs Kanyon RIGHT ON HIS FUCKING NECK. Holy fuck how was Kanyon not at least get legit KO'd there? Kanyon fights out of a powerbomb over the top to exposed concrete, but then takes a release German. Awesome exposes more concrete and looks to powerbomb Kanyon off the ramp, but Kevin Nash comes out, and kicks Awesome's ass. Some New Blood members rush out, lest Nash end Awesome's career, and the match is thrown out. It was going pretty good before that.-Flair & Sting run out to help Nash, and they plus Kanyon end up cleaning house.-Video preview for Buff/Luger, with Russo trying to "own" Liz.-Russo makes Liz change her dress, and says he has a surprise for her.-Match 6: Lex Luger VS World Tag Team Champion Buff Bagwell-They stall for a bit while comparing bodies. As par for the course with Luger, this match is really basic. Lex beats on Buff, Buff beats on Lex, lather, rinse, repeat. Buff busts out a double-arm DDT for two, then hits the chinlock. Buff switches up to a camel clutch, but Luger gets out. IN THE BACK Russo calls for Liz, who tips over his chair and cracks his knee with a baseball bat.Luger gets distracted when Liz comes out, and Buff takes advantage. Buff gets the bat and cracks Luger in the ribs, before hitting a swinging neck breaker. Buff calls for the Blockbuster, but Liz hits him on the elbow with the bat to knock him off the ropes, then Luger finishes with the rack.-Chuck Palumbo runs out, in a copy of Luger's gear, and attacks Luger. Buff helps Palumbo get Luger in the rack, then they leave with Liz.-Mean Gene interviews Shane Douglas, who REALLY can't wait to wrestle Flair.-Match 7: World Tag Team Champion Shane Douglas VS Ric Flair-If Russo interferes (which Russo has guaranteed he will), Flair gets five minutes with him. Flair wrestles in his street clothes again, and promises to kick Douglas' "ECW ass". Flair wins a chop exchange, but goes up top, and you can guess what happened. Douglas gets a figure 4, but Flair reaches the ropes. Douglas tries again, but Flair goes to the eyes to block, then goes low to send Douglas outside.Flair beats the shit out of Douglas on the outside, talking shit to Madden while he does it. Back in, Douglas hits a suplex into a slam, then pulls a chain out of his boot to KO Flair with. Douglas hits two suplexes, then a third, delayed suplex for two. They slug it out, and Flair wins that exchange easily before adding a couple nasty low blows.Flair goes to the knee and goes for the figure 4. Buff Bagwell runs out, someone, presumed to be Russo, comes out in a Sting costume and KO's Flair with a bat, allowing Douglas to get the pin. Another pretty solid match, even if it didn't live up to the "seven years in the making" hype.-The tag champs and "Russo" beat down Flair. Flair calls out Russo, and Luger sends the mystery man into the ring moments before Russo comes out to show it's not him. Russo takes out Luger, then the mystery man KO's Flair with a mini Statue of Liberty, before revealing himself to be David Flair. Nash comes out for the save, but takes a low blow from Daffney, which Nash sells more than any move he's ever taken. Russo, David, & Daffney celebrate all the way to the back.-A video previews Vampiro/Sting.-Match 8: Vampiro VS Sting-Vampiro charges Sting during Sting's entrance, and it doesn't go well for him. Sting batters Vampiro all the way to the ring, then hits a missile dropkick once they get there. They go back outside, and Tony offers Sting the announce table to suplex Vampiro through, but he opts for a DDT on the floor. Vampiro goes low to turn the tide, and knocks Sting down with a chop. Vampiro grabs a pipe from under the ring, and cracks Sting with it before dropping a knee low.Sting retreats down the ramp, and Vampiro follows, hitting a Jericho-style bulldog. Back in the ring, Vampiro hits another pipe shot, but Sting counters a super rana with a low blow and super powerbomb. Sting hits a pipe shot and a couple Stinger Splashes, and finishes with two Scorpion Death Drops. Surprisingly short, but this was really good. All action bell-to-bell.-Sting starts to leave, but sees Vampiro getting up, so he returns to the ring and adds another pipe shot.-Mike Tenay interviews DDP & David Arquette. DDP spells out the plan: Arquette stays out of the way, and climbs to the top to protect the belt from Jarrett and any New Blood interference.-Kevin Nash is looking for someone.-Tenay interviews Kidman (w/Torrie) and Bischoff (w/Kim). Kidman say he can't lose with Bischoff as the ref, and Eric pretty much echoes that.-Match 9: Kidman (w/Torrie Wilson) VS Hulk Hogan (w/Horace) [special Guest Ref: Eric Bischoff]-Kim escorts Bischoff, and joins the announce table. The announce team immediately annoy me by referring to Hogan by his real name. Bischoff immediately makes Hogan leave. Kidman gets Hogan to chase him, then lays the boots in when Hogan slides back into the ring. Kidman awkwardly counters a slam into a small package for two, then Hogan blocks a sunset flip, and choke lifts Kidman before straddling him on the top rope. Hogan gets a chair, sets it up, and slams Kidman on it.Kidman counters a powerbomb with a rana, and sends Hogan outside with a dropkick. On the outside, Hogan promptly regains control, until Kidman throws Torrie into Hogan in order to get a cheap shot in. Back in, Hogan retakes control with punches and a clothesline, then Hogan whips Kidman with the weight belt before Bischoff takes it away from him. Kidman clobbers Hogan from behind, then gets the weight belt from Bischoff and whips Hogan.Hogan suddenly beals Kidman over the top, and kicks his ass some more on the outside. Back in, Hogan has a visual pin, but Bischoff won't count. Hogan gets in Bischoff's face, but then misses three elbowdrops. They go back outside where Hogan regains control. Back in, Hogan looks to finish, but Bischoff gets in the way of the legdrop. Hogan decks him, then hits the legdrop. Hogan hits punches on Kidman, then clobbers both he and Bischoff across the back with a chair.Hogan gets two tables, with the legs of one breaking before he can set it up. Hogan sets up to put Bischoff through a table, but Kidman interrupts with chairshots, and gets a visual fall, but not a real one because Bischoff is too slow. Hogan kicks Kidman in the face then Bischoff in the nuts, then he powerbombs Bischoff through a table. Hogan starts to set up a third table, but Kidman chairs him down again, sets up the table, and puts Hogan on it. Kidman misses a splash and goes through the table, and Hogan gets the pin with Horace making the count with Bischoff's hand. This was surprisingly fun, as I figured it would be a total style clash and Hogan wouldn't have any interest in selling much for Kidman.-Russo runs for his life from Nash, giving Liz back to Luger before stealing someone's car.-A video recaps everything that lead to the main event.-Mean Gene interviews Jeff Jarrett, who can't wait to embarrass DDP and "that 150 pound turd" David Arquette.-Match 10 for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship: David Arquette [c] VS DDP VS Jeff Jarrett [Triple Cage Match]-Michael Buffer handles the intros. Jarrett is preoccupied with Arquette, and keeps allowing DDP to get him because of it. DDP tells Arquette to try a splash off the top, but he misses. DDP grabs a ladder, but Jarrett hits a baseball slide to send it into DDP's ribs. DDP slingshots Jarrett, who crashes into Arquette into the cage. It takes DDP two tries, but he manages to crotch Jarrett into the ring post. Jarrett gets busted open, and DDP batters him against the cage to make it worse. DDP tries to climb the ladder up to the second cage, but Jarrett cuts him off with a belly-to-back suplex.Jarrett tries to climb, but DDP cuts him off with a sit-out powerbomb. Jarrett batters DDP with a couple ladders and tries to climb, but DDP knocks him down. DDP gets to cage two and gets bolt cutters to get the door open, but just as he does so, Jarrett jumps him from behind. Jarrett busts DDP open and tries to climb to cage three, but DDP cuts him off. They end up crashing through one of the walls of cage two. DDP cracks Jarrett with a trash can, then sets up a table. DDP powerslams Jarrett through the table. Jarrett tries to crawl away and get to cage three, but gets cut off by DDP.Arquette finally makes a move, getting all the way to the top where the belt is. Mike Awesome attacks DDP, who goes low and takes Awesome out with a Diamond Cutter. DDP & Jarrett fight it out in the guitar room, where Jarrett misses two guitar shots. DDP slams the cage door on Jarrett's face, and hands Arquette a guitar. DDP & Jarrett climb...and Arquette takes DDP out with a guitar shot, helping Jarrett grab the belt to regain the title. This was...something. It was mildly interesting, even if most of the work was aimless brawling.-Awesome tries to powerbomb DDP, but is cut off by Kanyon, so Awesome launches Kanyon off cage two through the ramp. Awesome & Jarrett celebrate as the show ends.-FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a pretty good show, overall. Most of the matches are decent ---> good, and there's a minimum of wacky booking decisions. Since there were four less matches than Spring Stampede, most everything got time to breathe. I know there are people who are/were upset about the Kanyon bump taking place in the same building as Owen's death, and I might be one of them had I seen this show live or closer to when it aired, but I have to say watching it thirteen years later, it didn't bother me.NEXT EVENT: Great American Bash 2000

Kanyon was 'Champagne' since he came back from Hollywood to make 'Ready to Rumble' and was full of himself.

Do yourself a favor & track down the Arquette promo from the next night Nitro. A true gem.

I actually remember his "Don't trust anyone from Hollywood" promo.

WCW forcing Flair to wrestle in street clothes, because they thought he looked gross in tights, is the saddest period of Flair's career. Even moreso than bleeding every week, multiple divorce TNA Flair.

I also love how a powerbomb was never a part of Hogan's moveset (I think he had done them a couple times before), but in that series with Kidman he does them just because "you can't powerbomb Kidman".

And he wasn't even in street fight attire. Wasn't he wearing black slacks and a black t-shirt or something like that?

Tony mentions that Mancow's entourage includes Al Roker Jr. and a man called "Turd".

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm imagining his theme music being "He's a man called Turd" to the tune of Sting's theme song.

and I understand wanting to protect The Wall at this point.

The Wall was this close to being pushed as a main eventer.  I believe the last week before the Russo/Bischoff reset, they teased The Wall as the new top heel going after Hogan, IIRC.

DeMott gets on the mic and says he doesn't want to be called "Hugh Morrus" anymore because Bischoff gave it to him to make him look stupid, so he wants to go by his "real name" Hugh G. Rection, or "Captain Rection" for short. Because that's SO MUCH BETTER.

This got a legit LOL out of me.  Have we ever checked to see if Vince Russo isn't really two ten year old boys, one sitting on the other's shoulders, wearing a giant overcoat.  Because that's who would come up with "Hugh G. Rection"!

Vince Russo is one ten year old boy.  The one on top of the other's shoulders,  The one on the bottom was too smart for WCW and turned them down when they offered him the book.

Also, how exactly is "Captain Rection" that much shorter than "Hugh G. Rection"?

I still remember The Wall non-selling Hogan's Atomic Legdrop, it was a legit "What the fuck?" moment!

The Wall was getting really good before he died.  I remember a ladder match he had with Sabu on one of the early TNA ppvs that surprised the hell out of me.  Wall wasn't upper tier or anything but he was in significantly better shape than he was in WCW and was trying his ass off.  Granted I haven't seen that match in forever but I remember thinking he was going to be a key player if he kept up like that.
