I'm not sure who they can get, and which developer could properly develop the new game? I wouldn't mind Spike Chunsoft AEW game with new engine.

I just got back into Fire Pro after finally buying all the DLC except Fire Promoter.  The negative, mentioned before, is that downloading guys can be a real pain in the ass if they use custom stuff.  The positive is I have a Swerve Strickland who does insane Swerve-type combos and a Brody King with completely accurate tattoos.

Fight Forever was perfectly fine, but there were a lot of things they could have done better. A season/career mode that doesn't absolutely suck, gameplay sliders like the WWE games have - seriously, I never had a match that was over 5 minutes and that's annoying for a game that's supposed to be AEW specific - the company famous for giving matches TOO MUCH time. More customization. Etc etc. Completely understandable that none of that launched with the game, if AEW was pressuring Yukes to put out the game ASAP. Give them some time to work on a sequel and I think it would be so, so much better. It was a nice blend of a simulation style (my preference) and arcade, and I even liked Stadium Stampede as an online game mode too (but that maybe should have been a standalone thing, but also wouldn't be feasible for a company like AEW). Ultimately, I say let Yukes fucking cook and leave them alone and you'll get a quality product. I love Kenny Omega, but let him focus on wrestling and getting healthy. Distract him with another video game project if you must, but a console/PC wide release game should just be left to the developers.

Not the most popular choice for a new developer, but EA Orlando actually did my favorite ever MMA game back in the day and it wasn't rife with all the usual EA problems. But they also have their hands full with NFL, PGA and college football games.

Ah, fuck it - TK, put Adam Ryland under contract and release an AEW/NJPW/CMLL/Stardom/TJPW/various indies themed Total Extreme Wrestling.

For anyone trying 2k today because it's a PS+ game, remember that the Showcase mode has a lot of people locked behind obstacles and that we sickos who got the Deluxe edition have absolutely no idea how much individual arenas and Legends cost to unlock or how long it will take to do because those were unlocked for us. And the Rise story modes and MyFaction don't get you the tokens to unlock things, you pretty much have to play in Universe mode or just do individual matches.

I contemplated downloading it for a second until reading that.  Thank you for your service!

Question….are the people locked behind obstacles main roster wrestlers or are they like legends, special characters, etc?  If it’s the former, that really sucks.  It would be like buying Madden full price, and only 10 teams are available from the start and you unlock the rest by like, going at least 9-7 with a shitty team, etc.  But you get all the teams if you buy the $120 edition.

90 percent legends and alternate versions of current people. So you start with Rollins unlocked but Authority Rollins has to be earned in showcase, current Rey is a starter but WCW Rey has to be bought with match credits from Universe, etc. It's been six months but the only modern person I can remember whose only version is gated is Ronda Rousey, who's unlocked by doing the Becky/Charlotte/Ronda 3-way in Showcase, but there might be one or two others that escape me now.

Yeah they’re better, lmao.

But so different! It reminds me of picking up one of the recent Mortal Kombat games and doing the tutorial and just feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the different things I was supposed to learn how to do.

I will say in the few hours of playing around with 2K24 that for the most part it seems pretty new user friendly and there's at least a lot of stuff to play around with.

And for the record, Showcase isn't that hard or long. Particularly if you bump down the difficulty. The final rumble match I said F it and turned it down to Easy.

As a MyFaction rant, those DLC events are annoying this go around. Tag matches with all 4 wrestlers in the ring reflect the worst qualities of the games AI and mechanics.

2k are REALLY trying to get some baby whales out of PS+, between running two freebie codes (BEASTLY 2K24 and INYOURHOUSE) and a 25 percent discount on VC, plus a couple of events that can be finished with starter cards or, at the very least, the freebies you get from beating the Wrestlenania Rumble in Showcase.

For any PS players poking their heads in, as someone who has played MyFaction since it started and never spent more than $10 on VC in a year: it is just as hypermonetized as NBA2K or any EA Ultimate Team, and while you will have a hard time winning or even participating in a lot of timed events without spending RL $, the arcade towers (Weekly Towers and Proving Grounds) and the main Faction Wars will be eminently beatable just going with what you can get for free. If you think you'll be tempted to spend money to get rare cards, though, fucking skip it because the odds on those gacha packs are SHIT. Pop in long enough to get the Sheamus Persona card and never look back, it isn't worth it.

Thanks man but all this is legit like a foreign language to me.  I DL'd Madden on Xbox last year, played one season as the Ravens, then noped out.  I have no idea what any of this means and I get the feeling I'm probably happier that way! Like I'm old and just want to play a few a games against the computer; this pay to win, buying packs of virtual cards (I guess), gacha, etc. is all foreign to me.  Pretend I'm a time traveler from the 90s.

Okay. You can just have a nice arcade experience with strings of matches and rewards without spending money. The "Live Events" tab will be rough going if you didn't buy the Season Pass and don't spend money. Doing Showcase gets you cards that make it even easier to have fun with Proving Grounds and Weekly Towers without spending money. And even if you never play a match, popping in will get you 2009 Sheamus with his moves, trons and theme song. How's that?

Was Sheamus still using Lobsterhead in 2009? Because that's a worthwhile reward if so.

With three days of play in I will say that I don't think I'll ever spend any money in MyFaction but that it's done wonders for getting better at the game.

Since 2k22 it's been my "podcast game" in that mode and it's easy to zen out to. (I keep the volume on for other modes, but i also don't play them as much after beating Showcase and Rise. I would legit prefer not to have all the Legends and classic belts unlocked as part of season pass so I'd have more to do in Universe.) Still wish it weren't so desperate to get me to spend money I wouldn't spend even if I could afford it.

But hey, I got the N64-style Asuka today after finally beating her team in Faction War, so that was neat.

I've got 12 hours in 2K24 but I've only played two matches. I've just been doing My GM and trying to figure out if I hate it or not. It's definitely a better mode than 2K22's version. After playing so much AEW it's just hard transitioning to the clunky controls here but eventually I'll try out some of the weird gimmick matches. I also don't know who most of these wrestlers are so it's disappointing I can't play as some of the "legends" from the get-go. I'm glad it was a monthly freebie otherwise I probably never would have tried it

Here's something weird: whenever I start up WWE 2K23, a few seconds in a screen pops up trying to sell me on the various versions of Gamepass. When I decline, it pops up a second time. But that's it - when I decline the second time I'm done (until the next time I start the game).

At one point I thought it was tied to my powering on my XBox, or to starting any game, but no. It seems to be specifically tied to WWE 2K23.

It's always "funny" when 2k make it abundantly clear that they don't want anyone to actually win a limited-time event. The birthday challenge for Rhea Ripley has an OVR 97 version of Priest and 3 packs of gacha cards as prizes, well above the norm (or the two other birthday challenges currently running) but requires you to beat a Rhea with straight 99s using a green tier (so, mean of stats a minimum of 25 points lower) in a submission match with a 5 minute time limit. That's not even something you can pay-to-win your way thru, that's "lol fuck you."

At least they added another set of Proving Grounds towers, so there's some new content that I can have fun with anyway.

You gotta cheese a count out win which is stupid that it even works since it's a submission match. Took me about 6 tries to get everything for that one. At least it only requires you to hit 4 of the goals to win compared to the Rikishi one which requires 6. That Dusty one was tricky for me since the reversal timing on his signature and finisher are odd but I did it.

My pack luck has been awful after hitting on a bunch of stuff earlier in the year. Ah well. I did notice the Demasterd Auska is a card you can get in Faction Wars now.

The Jey Uso events have the reddit folks riled up though since 2 of the events require the Money in the Bank Jey card which is a reward for getting all of the other top cards from that pack so it's like over a million in game currency to get it.

Overall I still like the mode, but I'm more determined that ever to never spend actual money on this mode.
