Rasslin' Video Games

Recommended Posts

Nothing super solid and all of these come with an asterisk because it's early and things could change

  • No release window because they won't rush out a broken game beyond "Maybe next year, maybe the year after that" (they had Christmas stuff up/on, so recorded in 2020)
  • Create-a-wrestler mode is in
  • Online competitive play, looking at crossplay function, all match types, exclusive online modes perhaps
  • Neither sim nor arcade. Sim, like fire pro, some people find that can eliminate some of the fun of just jumping around and playing with buddies. Sounds like a hybrid of the two styles which is what a lot of people want. Speed of the arcade stuff but control of the sim stuff.
  • Kenny did footwork before the first show. While still in Japan, he visited AKI/Sin Sophia studios. Only one dude that worked on the AKI wrestling games left, as most wanted to keep doing wrestling and that's not where the company was going. He said he'd be interested. Word got out to a friend of Iwashita and that Iwashita wanted to meet w/ Kenny. Business meeting in Japan led to more meetings on both sides of da pond with executives. Came in more formally once Yukes was on board. Yukes was arcadey and Iwashita's style was slower and more sim-based, hence the hybrid of the two styles.
  • "You'll be able to do all the variations of the Canadian destroyer and strike combinations."
  • Then there's some talk about the mobile games but i don't really give a shit about those. Think he said something about the casino game dropping within 60 days.
  • Expect one of these videos every month or so.

I am honestly curious about the mobile games even if I only end up playing them for a couple weeks before losing interest.  I found it interesting that he said they didn't want to rush out a broken console game.  Some may have thought he was referring to WWE 2K20 but I found that to be referring to Cyberpunk.  So I'm cool with them doing what they can to avoid that.  And crossplay for online sounds like a big deal to me.  I don't know how often I'll use it but it would be nice to not be tethered to one particular system when doing matchups.

He also heaped praise on PlayStation 2 series King of Colosseum, and said that he is considering implementing that game’s liberating use of finishing moves. “One thing that I loved about King of Colosseum is that you had the ability to use a finisher right away. And in wrestling, sometimes that happens,”

As a longtime KoC2 stan I approve.  The powerball system was a great idea and I wish more people ripped it off.

King of Coliseum 2 is so...clunky and weird, but I wouldn't mind being able to hit a finish right from the get go. The problem is that everyone is going to kick out of it unless you all implement a CRITICAL system.

Which, come on, all wrestling games need that CRITICAL moment.

Anyone picked up the new MDickie game, Wrestling Empire?

I didn't realize it was out already.  But with his mobile games I've played I don't know if I can justify $20 for it.  For that price I got What the Golf and would rather go through that before getting anything else.  Granted it's not a long campaign or anything else but might as well finish that first.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I was fooling around with WWE 2K19 this morning, and out of nowhere a computer-controlled Beth Phoenix went for a pin by just putting her foot on her opponent's chest.

How do you do that? It's not a move in Beth's moveset, so is it something anybody can do? Google turned up nothing.

Okay, so I gave in and ended up getting it.  It's fun though if you haven't played his games before it will feel a bit odd at first.  The career mode is nice enough so far and I still love doing random match types and settings for fun.  Only issue is unlike phone versions not everything's unlocked.  I haven't looked into how to unlock them but so far career mode with the promotion I'm in hasn't done anything to unlock them.  But aside from that I say it's worth picking up though if you wait for a sale that might work out better.

I'd hope so at this point. Did they mention anything regarding a new engine or are they still using the old Yukes one?

Other articles went into new control change and gameplay change. Making it more wrestling like I think and able to bust out moves.
