I was just gonna say... dude an updated No Mercy AND wrestling Mario Party? SOLD!

This looks pretty good to me. But I have checked out of the wrestling game genre for the most part. Love me some All-Stars. Battlegrounds was decent enough too. But fuck that 2k shit. That is not fun to play at alllllll (in my opinion). I want fun game play. I don't care about anything else.

And the HUD looks so much like the AKI games. Instead of Special it says Signature. It has the color scheme from the AKI games too. So I am hopeful after seeing that. I don't need limb damage or any of that junk. Just give me momentum that leads to a special & easy controls and I'm happy.

God those mini-games looks awful and deciding to waste time on them for a year-one release where you can get only so much put in place is baffling. I wish I could wager how much of the discussion around release is gonna be "so they couldn't include X but had time for these?" and pick the over, I'd be a rich man.

I do feel like the mini games blend well with the more arcade focused approach of having fun with friends locally the game seems to be favouring. The casino chips minigame looks like ass tho. I know I had to adjust my expectations for what the game will be initially and am ready for a fun, fast paced game. The running grapple and grapple before the lockjaw are straight up Aki vibes. If it's a basic grapple/strike and matching reversal buttons for those two attacks like Aki, I'm golden. I enjoy the new 2k but the defense is a little over complicated. So if they can bring the pace and unpredictability of the Smackdown games and marry that to the solid mechanics of No Mercy, I think that's a real winning combination. As great as the Aki games are (and I still feel like vpw2 does Jr high flying matches better than any other game to date) they are a little slow in pacing.

from what i've seen and heard there isn't much that won't be in the game. If a wrestler isn't in the game it's simply because they wouldn't want to be or they went on to WWE and couldn't be.  I am optimistic about this one.

I'm more concerned about CAW options and such as opposed to roster size, I wouldn't be surprised if that is kept moderate initially for the sake of DLC down the line.

Look, if CAW options in this version boil down to pre-made heads and then using one slider to alter body size/shape as opposed to the litany of options present in WWE games then I'm fine with that. WWE games have become almost too time consuming to make a CAW in. It's practically Fire Pro-esque at this point. I want the simplicity of choosing a head, choosing a hair style, a simple slider for body type, wrestling attire without a shitty version of Photoshop to create the look of that attire, and then let me go bananas with move sets. Basically, keep it like No Mercy.

That's honestly one of the biggest deterrents for my friends playing modern wrestling games. In the past we could whip up a CAW with a silly entrance in a matter of 15 to 20 minutes. Modern games have grown so incredibly intricate that it took the fun out of CAW. It's great if you're a single player and creating your own roster of very good looking CAWs, but if you want to do some couch multiplayer, no one is going to want to sit there forever while everyone makes a wrestler. KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Unpacking after moving and found these. I don't know if they ever got unpacked the last two moves so probably haven't been out of the box they were in since 2017. I have the older games from the other consoles somewhere.

i may have already said this, but if not:

if AEW: Fight Forever was the EXACT same game as WCW/NWO: Revenge, but with AEW's wrestlers instead of WCW's roster at the time, it would 100% be my favorite wrestling game of the last 2 decades. Anything extra they've added is unquestionably a bonus. day 1 purchase unless the reviews are absolute dogshit on every level.

I'm right there with you on what would make me pretty happy about this game. My concern is that it's going to be some shit like that TNA game. It's been way, way, way too long now for most people to remember, but AJ Styles was talking up how his favorite wrestling game was No Mercy and that's what the TNA game would be. And of course that game was dogshit. I'm just hoping Yukes doesn't fuck this up.

More over, I'm hoping this paves the way for a NJPW game if the game engine is good.

Yeah, those minigames look like shit. If that's your bag, cool. But I hope that's optional and not part of the story mode.

I'm all for an arcade style, I just have low expectations. I certainly won't be buying this full price right out the gate. I don't drop 60 bucks on games without GTA or Red Dead in the title, hopefully it'll pop up on GamePass eventually.

I'm dying for a new wrestling game though, I still play No Mercy and Revenge when I get the urge, and UFC 4, but that ain't wrestling.

The PSN database apparently has an unlisted entry for Fight Forever with a release date of February 2023, according to PlayStation Size on Twitter.

A guy I worked with's fiance is a manager at Gamestop and they have Feb 2023 as the tentative release date. At one point it was listed as Holiday 2022.  So I assume there are some kinks to be worked out.

There is a 90% chance that the overall opinion of AEW's game will not be positive (probably deserved, first time efforts rarely deliver in this genre). Wrestling fans and video game fans are both difficult to amuse, and making a good wrestling game is actively hard which is why we keep talking about games from 20 years ago. I really don't know what they were thinking, sinking so much money into something that will be hard to get their money back from and could end up being a headache if its not well received. They should have stuck to the mobile games for a bit until they stabilized themselves.

I think 90% is fairly high. Look, if the game plays well and it's a fun multiplayer experience and the career mode is good then people are going to look past the graphics and barren features. I never expected this to be feature laden since it's their first time out. I just want the fucking thing to play well, which I guess we'll find out soon once it's demo'd at Gamescom.

I just want a good engine, man. Everything else can wait. I enjoy playing 2k with friends but it's awful against the AI most of the time, especially anything outside of a straight up 1v1 match. If they can make this fun w/ friends AND the AI that's a huge win for us all.

The ideal was HCTP chaos and unpredictability with the solid foundation of No Mercy mechanics. If they've done that, and the clips kinda hint at a combination of those two games (as does the background of Yuke's and Geta), and it's fun I will be soooo happy. I'll end up buying it on multiple platforms.
