According to Twitter, so it may or may not be accurate, the only match in Wrestlemania history longer than the Edge/Orton Last Man Standing match tonight was. . .

Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels, Wrestlemania 12

I think what this weekend shows is that if done well cinematic wrestling with a big budget is a viable thing.  I think it can be more than a one off...

However,  I think it should be done sparingly.

Was John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt or The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles going to be good matches in front of a live crowd?  Hell no...  so this totally worked for them.

Does Cesaro/Bryan/Zayn/Gulak/Nakamura need to have a cinematic presence?  Hell no..  their characters wouldn't fit and that's not their strengths, they are great wrestlers so you have to make this choice all dependent on the characters you have.

I dug the fatal 5 way match a lot from a storytelling standpoint.  I liked the little Team B.A.D. bits in there and the Sasha/Bayley story is compelling.  Sasha reminded me on Owen Hart at WM X where he was on the ramp as she was tonight looking on at Bret...   I HOPE they are slated for SummerSlam.

Boy wait until Wrestlemania 40 when  Cole vs Gargano vs Ciampa goes 75 minutes on the first fall

I just can't imagine any justification for the LMS match being that long. Edit it down by fifteen minutes (and mute 2/3 of Orton's uncomfortably-close-to-porn sounds) and you'd have a thoroughly decent brawl with a couple of great spots that proved Edge can still handle big bumps.

From what I see, it edged out the WM2K four way by about 11 seconds.

The thing that makes it worse is that people are saying that what we saw was actually clipped.  If that is true the legit match may have been an hour

Two world title matches, and what, five moves? Goldberg is old and should never have come back - what's Brock's excuse?

Fuck you, he has Vince's money?

Charlotte/Rhea was really good but Charlotte winning was the wrong choice unless the plan is for Rhea to get her win back in front of an actual audience.

The other women's match was also solid though I thought they were going to have Bayley and Sasha as the last two in order to finally start up a feud.

It was good to see Drew win the title. The match was about what I was expecting in terms of length and quality.

One layer of wrestling hell will involve watching that LMS match on repeat.

The Firefly Funhouse was like some Adult Swim bumper reject. Say what you will about the Boneyard match, at least it did what it set out to do. This was just like an extra long Bray promo. They should have just gone full absurd with it and had the two of them wrestle as puppets or cartoon characters. Hell, their alter egos in a Southpaw episode would have been better.

The rest of the show was basically an episode of Raw.

Night 1 was better. The main matches on night 2 under delivered or were Edge-Orton, forever, FOREVER, a benchmark on overindulgence despite the firefly funhouse match. Dug nWo Cena though.

Motn was Ripley-Flair. MotW was Owens-Rollins.

Really liked the Firefly Funhouse and Ripley/Charlotte apart from Charlotte winning. That's two WrestleMania matches she needed to lose, Asuka the other from WrestleMania XXXIV. There's a case for three with Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch at WrestleMania XXXII.

Edge trying to make up for 9 years of missed ring time in one night was agonizing.

More like the 9 years Edge missed.

That match reminded me of Triple H/Shawn Michaels 47 minutes Hell in a Cell match and that's really bad.

;).
