2021 - IN MEMORIAM - MOVIES & TV

Famed animation director Gene Deitch passed away yesterday at 95 in Prague, where he'd lived for the last 60 years. Probably best known here for helming the infamous Tom & Jerry cartoons in the early 1960s along with previously creating Tom Terrific and revitalizing the Terrytoons studio.

That's right -- Tom & Jerry was always packaged as a "hodgepodge" of animators/production houses in syndication. The Deitch ones from the 60s always looked like the store-brand version of the classics.

Little Richard passes away, and several friends' first memories (via their FB posts) are about the time he and James Brown were a team on a celebrity edition of "Wheel of Fortune," competing against Weird Al Yankovic and Lee Greenwood (both playing solo). I have odd friends ...
