BTW, a typhoon is headed our way that could have an impact on some of the events.

Rowing was already cancelled for the next two days and I suppose the same will be true for sailing.

So people who tried to tells us that the USA basketball team awful performance in exhibitions was no big deal.  They are down 2 to France with 40 seconds left IN THE FIRST ROUND.  For the people that shit on the 88 team, at least they made it to the damn bronze medal game.

EDIT:  Okay apparently it is group play so technically they aren't eliminated.  But they probably have to run the table just for hope

I am sure that people will throw out a bunch of other sports but water polo feels like one of the toughest sports in the Olympics.    The cardio has to be incredible

Adam Peaty won 100m breaststroke gold in Tokyo to become the first British swimmer to defend his Olympic title. The world record holder wins Team Great Britain's first gold medal of the Games. Peaty has not lost over this distance in more than seven years. Congratulations!

There is something great about 13 year old Brazilian skateboarder rayassa leal who is all smiles (with braces) doing tricks at the Olympics.   She apparently went viral when she got retweeted doing a trick in a fairy dress when she was 7.  Now she's in the Olympics.

Victory in Tokyo largely seemed inevitable for Peaty given no-one has come close to him in recent years.

He has not lost over this distance in more than seven years and, in addition to his gold in Rio five years ago, Peaty has won the 100m breaststroke at the last three World Championships, has broken the world record five times and is the only man to have ever swam it in under 57 seconds.

Dominance.

The three medalists in the women's street skate are 13, 13 and 16. (Nishiya turns 14 next month). There are a bunch more young skaters in the other skate event, including 15 year old Misugu Okamoto.

Momiji Nishiya because Japan's youngest ever gold medalist at 13 years old. Who knew Japan was so good at skateboarding?

Meanwhile, Shohei Ono, defending Olympic champion, unbeaten since 2015, and one of the greatest judokas to ever live, survived a grueling final to fend off his Georgian opponent, Lasha Shavdatuashvili. Shavdatuashivili was an Olympic gold medalist at 66kg in 2012 and a worthy opponent for Ono. Their bout went 9:25 minutes with Ono one penalty away from disqualification for much of the overtime. Finally, Ono was able to sweep Shavdatuashivili off his feet with a waza-ari to survive the ultimate scare. He wasn't entirely satisfied with his victory, but it scared the bejesus out of the nation and was a tremendous relief.

When she gets home, it's back to her Pre-Med study.   What am I doing with my life?

So much stuff going on tonight. The ROC edged out Japan in the Men's team gymnastics by .103 to get the gold. It was down to the very last routine.

And then Japan gets it's first ever table tennis gold in the first ever mixed doubles event. It's the first time anyone other than China has taken gold at any Olympic table tennis event since 2004.

How about Hidilyn Diaz winning the Philippines' first ever gold medal in weightlifting?

EDIT: Oh, yeah. My home country, New Zealand, got our first medal of the games, too. A bronze in the men's triathlon. Well earned, Hayden Wilde!
