I hate linking to the Post but

Even though I would be dismissive of it anyway, but sports really is the biggest proof that should blow up every "COVID is a creation of the media" myth that exists.

Are ratings for news networks and engagement for streaming services up? Sure.

But all of those news networks are owned by larger umbrella corporations that would undoubtedly trade 500,000 extra viewers for their news divisions every week to get back the greater revenues come with sports arenas and stadiums, concert halls, movie theaters, and theme parks being filled shoulder-to-shoulder, and the resultant additional engagement with sports that would trickle down to television viewership.

Back to DC Sports Radio for a second

Entercom - who owns 106.7 The Fan - is making a trade with Radio One and one of the stations included is the OTHER DC sports station WTEM 980 (which is AM)

The big thing out of this is Entercom picks up the station that owns the rights to the Washington Football Team broadcasts (whether they can flip them over to FM is a different matter)

Seriously, ESPN was Disney's biggest money maker for years.  If ESPN is cutting jobs, it's because Disney is losing massive amounts of money on all the other shit they have that requires people to go outside.  Seriously, ESPN had the Jordan documentary, the NBA playoffs, Major League Baseball, and now NFL and college football.  Say what you want, but that's a pretty good line up all things considered.  They still need to cut costs.  Just imagine what some of these other networks are going through right now.  This shit is a harbinger of things to come.  If live sports isn't enough to overcome the pandemic, just think about how much a lot of these networks who have no new programing being made are going through.  Don't be surprised if we start losing a significant number of cable channels in the next few months.

It's crazy cause I follow John Ourand on Twitter, and he's retweeting those who were affected by the layoffs. It wasn't a significant number, but these are producers and the like who've been there between 15-30 years who managed to survived a dozen other rounds of cuts throughout their entire tenure. This seems to be a recurring theme of these retweets.

Ironically - on the same day ESPN announced its layoffs, The Athletic announced it was rolling back the salary cuts they had imposed

All employee salaries will revert back to what they were pre-COVID

Hooboy, apparently the NYDN's Jets' correspondent, Manish Mehta, got decredentialed by the team some time ago and the paper's solution was to have another reporter do the work and then stick Mehta's name on it.  The guy who did the actual reporting is airing them out on twitter

Hard to believe this gambit didn't work out for them.

Will Cain is trending on Twitter because he thinks the President pulling a coup d'etat would be pretty cool.

He may very well just be backtracking, but he's pretty adamant that he was describing the Trump team's thinking, without any opinion of his own.
