Remember when Bravo was nothing but West Wing re-reuns, blow out and that one realirt show about that one physical trainer and her psycho girlfriend?
Better yet, remember when Bravo would show opera or hte occasional Lou Reed live show?

I remember when Bravo was the "artsy fartsy" cable channel.

Also, when AMC was commercial free.

And 2 comedy channels.

I remember when Nickelodeon would switch over to A&E at 9PM since neither network was full time. A&E showed operas and plays back then and when they went 24 hours they added highbrow British shows and weekly airings of Mean Streets.

Wasn't AMC a premium channel when it started? They also had the show Remember WENN that I never watched but always heard it was good.

Sadly my cable company couldn't decide between HA! and The Comedy Channel so we had to wait until the merger and formation of Comedy Central to get MST3K, Short Attention Span Theater and Inside the Comic Mind with Alan King.

Bar Rescue on The Paramount Network(SpikeTV) is the trash show that really sucks me in, Friday Night Tykes was the other but the Esquire Channel disappeared a few years ago.

Yeah, IFC shit the bed, and I didn't realize how much until JT's reminiscing. They used to be awesome, just as cool as El Rey was before they started doubling down on Xena marathons or whatever the hell they like to put on now.

The best thing about IFC is Brockmire.

Brockmire is fantastic. I hear good things about Documentary Now! (also on IFC), but have yet to check it out.

Re: AMC, I hear good things about The Terror. Has anyone here watched it?

I tapped out on Walking Dead probably three episodes into the first season. No regrets.

The West Wing sucks, Aaron Sorkin sucks, and Bravo is probably much better off for repeats of that show no longer being such a large part of their programming.

I am a little surprised at myself for not mentioning this sooner.

The Food Network - I watch a lot of it but if you are looking for actual tutorial cooking shows it is either The Cooking Channel or their app that they are pushing (which isn't free if you want the actual classes)

Pretty much there are some cooking tutorials in the early AMs (and they are almost always one of the Southern cooking women) and then settle in for episodes of Chopped or a show hosted by Guy Fieri

Man vs. Food, now hosted by another portly guy, Casey Webb is on The Cooking Channel. It used to be on the Travel Channel when it was hosted by Adam Richman.

I never tried the Fat Sandwich challenge at Rutgers Grease Trucks. My limit was two sandwiches, then wanting to curl up and die.

Had a bit of Food Network on last night, and they were airing a block of Gail Kim's husband's Kitchen Nightmares rip-off show. There's no way all of that food is so inedible that he needs to spit it out.

Most of those restaurants probably still go under six months after the cameras are gone, right? Two-to-three days of filming, a face-lift for the dining space, and a few tips and words of encouragement from a celebrity chef can't possibly counter some of these people's lack of common sense when it comes to running a business.

Dude, I'm always so embarrassed for those people who are trying their best only for the Food Network to show up with their cameras and insult them.  It all feels unnecessary.  It's not enough that these people are mostly broke, their dreams are turning into nightmares, and they're family is falling apart, now some British dude comes to "help" by spitting out their food and screaming at them.  I never understand why that is a part of all these shows.

Unfortunately, chewing, swallowing, and offering measured, reasonable feedback doesn't film as well as feigning a disgusted gag. Not that there aren't occasionally some egregiously-shitty owners on these shows that deserve an ass-chew. But a lot of the time, voices are being raised for no good reason because the medium demands drama so you stick around through the ads.

This definitely happens with Bar Rescue too

But usually the people who go on this show are convinced they know more than the TV people so almost always - months after the show airs, they change everything back and then business craters again

There was a pirate bar on that show that some friends wanted to visit.  It was the most absurd thing any of us had ever watched, and it was close enough to go to, but it closed before we made it.

Food Network also has a hard-on for showing Best Thing I Ever Ate a lot now, which I actually have no problems with because that's straight food porn that doesn't make me feel guilty like Man vs. Food (glutton faces challenges) or any of the Food Paradise/Carnival Eats type shows (people eating mass amounts of the worst stuff ever). Plus they brought Alton back for more Good Eats, which as boring as it is more often than not will actually teach you something.

I did not know about this Paramount Network stuff which is funny because since we got Dish there is a legit Paramount Network that just shows movies.

Oh and I can't recall the name but I went to one of the Bar Rescue bars in Chicago to see some bands before it went on the show. Didn't seem bad to me. It was one that they remodeled into an Irish pub I believe.

I love Best Thing I Ever Ate, and if I travel anywhere near any of those places I try to go.  It is the exact type of thing that something called "The Food Network" needs to be showing.

It's a whole helluva lot better than yet another competitive food show. Otherwise, they've gotten to the point to where the only actual cooking stuff that's non-competitive is early in the mornings with the Southern lady and that obnoxious show where they have a studio audience. Better off watching PBS on the weekends instead for their food show lineup.

Something I'll never understand about Americans: why does everything have to be a competition? I guess that's like asking the snake why it bites or something, but still.

Those motherfuckers at TLC managed to wrangle a commercial for My Feet Are Killing Me into the AEW commercials. I CONDEMN YOU TO HAY-UL!

The first episode of My Feet Are Killing Me delivered. There was a woman who had her sixth toe on both feet removed, another woman with a monsterous growth on the bottom of her left foot, and a guy who hadn't cut his toenails in like 5 years, so his feet were full of fungus and he developed ram's horn nails.

I'm looking forward to the ingrown toe nail removals. Those are my favorite procedure to watch.

A&E has their own podiatry show, The Toe Bro.
