I was tempted to go back and do a rewatch of B5.

It comes on the regular on Comet.  I watch it every so often.

Is this the Kevin Sorbo series from 15-20 years ago. or is there another show with the same title?

I’m talking about the Sorbo series. It would pain me to watch anything he’s involved in, but if it’s good I’ll do it.

Well now we wait on NBC and pray for Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist though that first season wrapped everything up with a nic lityle bow that a 2nd season seems... Unnecessary

Well that's easy enough.  You can start season 2 with Joan announcing that because of COVID-19, she was forced to sell the SPRQ Point and if the entire staff wants to keep their jobs, they're going to have to relocate to the new corporate HQ in...Milwaukee!!!

The show can then pivot to focusing on the wacky hijinks of a group of self-absorbed hipster Millennials being fishes out of water as they deal with life in flyover country!

Happy to hear that Stumptown got renewed, sad to hear that A Million Little Things was.  AMLT is easily the worst of the This Is Us rip-offs.

Single Parents could have been a good series if they'd focused on Brad Garrett and Leighton Meester as the main couple, with Taran Killam's character either being more of a background character or written out entirely.

Randomly flipped past E! this morning and discovered they were running a Las Vegas marathon (the tv show from about 15 years ago).

They happened to be airing the Mothman episode, so I watched.  Mothman is the samewhat infamous third season episode where they wrote out Lara Flynn Boyle.  Boyle was brought in as a trophy wife billionaire who took over the casino.  Basically, producers were hedging their bets because James Caan was unhappy over the long working hours and threatening to quit (he ended up staying for season 4).  Unfortunately, Boyle was a allegedly a pain to work with and the cast and crew disliked her, so they wrote her out after nine episodes by.... having her blown off the roof of a building.

Hoo boy, the writers must have really hated her.  Her death scene is so odd, a throwaway scene shoehorned into the last 3 min of the episode.  Boyle was wearing a wacky outfit with big draping sleeves that look kinda like wings.  They didn't even bother to pretend it was a windy night.  Boyle's talking then lifts off and just blows backward off the roof into the sky.  She doesn't even bother to scream. Josh Duhamel barely reacts to this.  He kinda gives a halfhearted "stop.  Come back" response, then just stands around looking perplexed.

The opening for the next episode was even funnier.  Boyle blows across the city and crashes through the window of a shoe store. The way the scene is shot, it's fairly obvious they didn't even use a dummy for the "crash" scene and just tossed something large, heavy, and rectangular through the window.  I know it's a tv budget, but the physics still look way off.

So, yeah,. her death was basically a throwaway gag played for laughs.  Weird.  Not even funny, really.   I'm assuming this was a bad case of writer's revenge.

That reminds me of this scene though I think this one had more to do with how much the character was hated by viewers than any problems with Diana Muldaur.

It was always... ironic I guess would be the best word for it here - that that is considered one of the more famous TV death scenes

And then NBC came back with again like a decade later but played it for laughs by having a character on a TV show in a TV show "die" the same way

I am guessing it was an Easter egg/inside gag for the inside TV folks since I don't really think their was much audience crossover from the folks who used to watch LA Law to the folks who watched Friends (outside of the people who never change their TV channel)

I read an article a year back or so that pinpointed that scene as the "death of LA Law".  Not sure I agree.  The scene is from season 5.  There were a fair number of changes onscreen and off-screen around that time.  By season 7, Jimmy Smits was off to do NYPD Blue Susan Dey had left the show, the popular CJ Lamb character was written out, etc.

Question: I noticed E shows have odd start and running times.  For instance, all the Las Vegas episodes on today run for 55 min (w/ commercials) instead of an hour, so the start times are odd (1:10, 2: 05. 3:00, 3:55, etc.)

I flipped through the channel guide and a lot of the sitcoms on this week run 25 min w/ commercials, so it appears to be a std. E thing.  Any idea why that is?  Can't sell enough ads or is there some advantage to it?  I'm almost certain that shows like Christley Knows Best was originally intended to run 30 min once commercial breaks were inserted.

I completely forgot about this. If I recall correctly wasn't her character fairly disliked?

Yeah, although the character was meant to be unpopular.  Boyle's character was a waitress/stripper who married a very old billionaire and inherited his money when he died.  She came in and bought the hotel the characters worked at, and had plans for the place that would have cost most of them their jobs.  Found an interview where one of the showrunners said the idea was to babyface her eventually.  One of the ideas was to have her lose all her money and take a job at the hotel.

It sounded like there were long-term plans for Boyle, but she ended up not liking the gig and took it out on people around her (ie, the Ruby Rose story).

I was mostly surprised by how out-of-left field and half-baked her death felt.  Las Vegas wasn't really known for cleverness or whimsy.  I kind of remembered the death scene, but remembered a lot of the details wrong.  The way I misremebered the scene made it play out a little better, imo.

I don't really like the Diana Muldhaur scene either.  It's shocking and effective, but even in the 80's, elevators had too many safety protocols for you that to actually happen.
