2020 VIDEO GAME CATCH-ALL THREAD

Has anyone bought a physical edition of Sonic Mania Plus lately?  I was going to order a copy this morning, but I keep seeing an edition with a cardboard slipcase and an artbook.  I want that edition, but so far as I can tell, there wasn't a special launch day or limited edition of the game.  Does every edition of the game come with the slipcase and art book or just certain copies?

Already tried Google without any luck and Best Buy has a pic of the artbook/slipcase in their listing.  Wondering if I can just order from Amazon or Best Buy and get what I want, or if they'd ship me the game and plastic case and omit the extras.

Thanks.

TPP starts off Ok, but falls apart about half way through, when it becomes obivious that Kojima is on his way out and Konami is fucking around.  The missions get repetitive, hell, they actually repeat a couple for story mode.  Story is disjointed and way out there, even for a Metal Gear game.  The game itself is ok, but it's not worth the time investment for an incomplete game, bad voice acting (especially from Sutherland), the back half of the game being Kojima and Konami taking swipes at each other and way too bloated.

I played through about half of the game and yes, that game becomes boring very fast. It does not help that the Afghanistan setting also looks boring as fuck. Apparently, later on you can play in some central African setting, which should at least add some color (i.e. green) to the grey and brown of the rest.

The switch up to the Central African setting is more interesting than the Afghanistan setting, but the game is still plagued by being boring, plus Africa is where the escort missions start up, and hoo boy are they not good.

We got Plus and I don't remember it having the artbook.  It did have the reversible case though.  But if you don't want the extras I can gladly take it off your hands.  PM me please if interested.

Speaking of Sonic Mana my older nephew is obsessed with Sonic so he had to try this on our Switch.  Good news is he loves the game.  Bad news is he won't stop asking his parents for a Switch as he wants this and also the Mario games.  Luckily he's getting SM for XBox One for his birthday so that will tide him over.  But since he's been playing Mario Kart and Smash Bros. they're hoping to get him a Switch for Christmas.  It's pretty cool for my wife and I to teach him these games especially for my her whois a huge Sonic nerd and is more than happy to talk about how she grew up on them.

And it's also funny seeing my mom play Mario Kart and Smash Bros.   Years ago she didn't want me touching any games and now she's more than happy to play these with her grandkids.  It's really cool to see.  Next week we'll bringing it over and have Clubhouse Games installed.  The thought of playing darts and bowling has everybody incredibly excited.

Saint's Row remaster is definitely much more unstable than the original release.  I've had it crash at least half a dozen times.

Still a fun game, though.  I'm just running around finding collectibles and doing side jobs.  Found out you can beat Pierce to death during a mission last night.  That was fun to do.

from what i can tell, both versions were released with the same sku, so retailers treat them as the exact same way.  Best option if you're looking for one specific version is to either buy it in person on from eBay where there's lots of pictures.

Speaking of Saints Row The Third Remastered, just got my 171st Platinum trophy for it. Like Robert C said, it's really glitchy and almost worst than the PS3 version. I had a telephone pole knock a vehicle I was driving almost 20 feet into the air. Plus numerous camera issues. I really hope for a patch soon.

Also, if you let the game go into rest mode, it'll glitch trophies on you. Same problem as was back in 2011.

I've started too many games at a time where I've been way too busy with work, and have no idea which ones I'll actually finish. I was making good headway on Crisis Core: FFVII until they dropped a stealth mission on me. And god damn if that game doesn't have 1) great production values 2) way too many side missions. I haven't played the FFVII Remake but I'll go out on a limb and say if you like that you'll like CC.

Played the first hour of Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PSP), Nier (PS3), Survival Kids (GB),  Danganronpa V3 (VITA), Persona 2 and 3 (PSP), and the XBOX Vice City port that's part of the lovely 2005 triple-disc trilogy. Comfortably in the middle third of Little King's Story (Wii), Parasite Eve (PS1), and Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (GBA, they call this the easy one?), and Yakuza 0 (PS4, been beating all the Yakuza in chronological, PS2 games included).  Come to think of it, I'm more than half done with Zack & Wiki, Final Fantasy Adventure, Incredible Crisis, Yoku's Island Express, West of Loathing, Me & My Katamari, Baten Kaitos... I have a damned TurboGrafx Mini now! I have no idea how to manage all this potential leisure. I need to actually beat these games, I'm drowning in my collection. Thank God I'm literally approaching the point where I've just ran out of shit to buy.

and yet, I'm watching the SO play Saints Row 3 and I think sometimes I'd rather be playing that

Me, monday, deciding I need some baseball: Buys The Show 20 at full price.

Me, today, checking the PS Store and seeing a Days of play sale: The Show on sale at 30% off...

FUCK!

I'm even more annoyed since the game itself seems to just be a roster update from last year, and also plagued by crashing (I've had 4 crashes thus far).

I got my first ever Platinum trophy, for Life Is Strange: Before the Storm. Super easy to get it, since it's basically a visual novel with choices and whatnot, but I still really enjoyed it nonetheless. I'm guessing the first game explains that post-credit scene, because I'm left with a lot of questions that I don't want to Google the answers for (all I know is that it's a dark room apparently). This game actually had some twists and turns I wasn't expecting, either. But, yeah, these are the types of games I really enjoy.

I'm either starting the first one later today, or Control (or MGSV: The Phantom Pain, or Lords of the Fallen, or...).

EDIT: Oh yeah - I loved the small Twin Peaks Easter egg at the end before the credits (in the junkyard). Almost missed it.

It's interesting that you played the prequel before the main one; Obviously Original Life is Strange came out well before Before... did so almost everyone who played both did the original first. And considering it's a somewhat happy ending, bittersweet at least, the Dark Room clip being in there was very much not appreciated by people who remembered the first.

If you like the Life is Strange games, maybe try Until Dawn as well. Unless you have a passionate hatred of quicktime events as a gameplay mechanic.

I figured Before the Storm is the prequel to the original, isn’t it? That’s why I played it first.

Until Dawn is trash, from the little bit I played of it. I might finish it one day. I’ve got the Quantic Dream boxset, but I’ve only completed Detroit so far. But that was a really good game, I thought.

I know I slagged TPP a bit, if you're gonna play it:  Make sure you either got the MGSV Definitive version, or you also have/play first Ground Zeroes, or else you're going to be lost in the beginning of TPP.

Yeah, I've already started Ground Zeroes. I've played Phantom Pain before, on the Xbox One, and like you said, I was completely lost.

BUT, also, the Days of Play sale is too fucking good, and I ended up buying Control last night. So.... yeah....

God, my brain is so fried that I just remembered I bought Anno 1800 in the EGS sale last week and haven't even launched it.

Which is probably fine because I'm not sure I can handle anything more mentally strenuous than Animal Crossing at this point.

I thought Until Dawn was fun, if not amazing. Probably best played in the dead of winter, though...

Still struggling with Last Of Us. Fucking infected people drop ammo but dudes with guns don't? Come ON.

I think NiER Automata is next because that actually looks fun. Games should be fun!!!

I am easing my way into Breath of the Wild and that is an adventure when I start confusing the controls with Animal Crossing

It's alright. I like the aesthetic but that's about it, honestly.

I'm jealous.  I wish I could eternal sunshine myself so I could play Breath of the Wild for the first time again.
