Either I was an amazing gamer as a child or I'm terrible now, but nothing at all will humble you more than trying to play NES games.  I remember playing Ninja Gaiden as a kid and getting pretty far, I tried to play on an emulator and couldn't get past the first level without dying repeatedly.

Mega Man 2 was my adult downfall.

I picked up BreakPoint on a whim (and because it was deeply on sale). I never played Wildlands, but I felt like it was fairly well regarded by the time they were done updating it. Breakpoint has definitely not gotten that reaction from what I've seen. That said, I'm enjoying it well enough. It's just another Ubisoft open world, check question marks off a list sort of game for me. Don't give a fuck about the story. I just want to clear areas and make gear numbers go up. Using the AI squad and between them and my drone buddy, I'm basically death incarnate and no one ever sees me coming. I sometimes clear entire bases without firing a shot myself.

This game does have about the most convoluted menu I've ever seen, though. Just system on top of system on top of system. Even trying to figure out what missions to do is a pain in the ass.

I think years of modern games has made us forget about the days were we didn’t look up walkthroughs, or have in game tutorials. But the Souls games have trained me back into that mindset. I was able to blitz through the Mega Man series in a single weekend because I understood trial, and error again.

Trying to Platinum Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and it's grindy. R&C1 and 2 had ways around it (including the infamous bolt glitch from R&C1 on the race track) but R&C3 is ridiculous. You have to unlock all the skill points, get all weapons to omega level, and earn 10 million bolts. Not to mention beat the Quarktastic challenge, which will take 30+ minutes.

And some of the skill points are better (like the 40 kills with suck cannon) with a fully upgraded weapon. After that, I'll probably finish up Disintegration for my 190th Platinum trophy then start doing some PS3 remasters (like MGS 2, DMC 3, ICO, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Prince of Persia Sands of Time) leading to my 200th Platinum trophy.

Speaking of being a much better gamer at a younger age, I beat this game on a flip phone.  I used to work at Home Depot, and in the spring and summer the Garden center was the biggest money maker in the entire store.  In the fall though, they were pretty much paying me to sit in a booth for 8 hours and ring up maybe 4 people an hour. I beat Mega Man 2, Sonic the Hedgehog and got way too good at Tetris one fall on a tiny screen with nearly non responsive buttons.

New PSN store seems to be live.  Haven't checked it out on my desktop yet, but it seems to be a mess.  Confusing layout and missing a lot of the little things I used (couldn't find an option to switch from mobile view to desktop site, couldn't sort games by name or price, etc.).

I'll take a closer look at it later but it looked a lot less useful to me.  I mostly only use it to check the day;s new releases and deals, but still.....

Edit: yeah, it's hard to browse from the mobile phone right now because you can't sort the viewing order of titles.  I'll try out the app later but I expect it to be the same.

I do see links for the PS3 and PS Vita stores, though the PS3 store is only listing 1800+ titles.  PS3 store had 2,138 titles yesterday.  Not sure if they delisted 300 games or some of the dlc and bundles are being listed differently.  Difference might be psp games.  Irrc, you could still buy Vita and PSP games through the PS3 store.  PSPsupport looks to be gone entirely.

Somehow, Sony made the store worse than before. I could find everything I wanted on the previous store and was able to find download links. Now I can't find anything I have.

When I click on a PS3 game I know I have (like Bionic Commando Rearmed), it takes me back to the main store page.

Apparently most of the links to older games (pre-PS4) are broken and take you back to the main page, though I did click on a couple of PS3 games and brought up their page.  It at least looked like I could order the game.

They even removed PS3/Vita/PSP games from the list of recently played games in your account.  The PS3 titles I played recently are missing.

The new layout is such as mess I can't tell what's deliberate and what's just broken.  If you'e removing PS3 and Vita support, why not just remove the links to those stores entirely?  There are links below the main menu in the games section.  Why can't I sort PS4 games by title or release date?  Just....

I'm really annoyed they removed the "Downloads" link and replaced it with a link that takes you to the console's library.  If I change over to a different console (say, my PS4 goes bad and I buy a new one), I shouldn't have to go on a scavenger hunt to see if I can remember all the games and dlc I previously downloaded.

So I finally defeated Last of Us Part 2 and

Spoiler

what a rollercoaster ride.  A very, very long game. You either will love it or hate it.  I loved how it was moving with Ellie on her quest to avenge Joel's death.  Until out of nowhere they humanize Abby and give her a story similar to Ellie.  Now you are playing as both girls and can't really pick a side which makes the fights they have against each other extremely awkward.   Once Abby let Ellie and her girlfriend go I thought the game was over. Then the farm stuff where Ellie leaves her girlfriend and the baby to go after Abby only to let her go free and come back home to an empty house.  Part of me thought she would come home to find the baby and girlfriend dead.  The ending with Ellie walking off into the grass was strange and makes me wonder if we get a third game.

I think we will.

Spoiler

For whatever reason, I think the third game will have Joel in it and have backstory about Tommy & Joel's years together that gave Tommy nightmares. I also think we'll see Abby & Lev and having to escort Ellie (who won't be playable) to a scientist who is developing a cure.

I actually liked the ending but I wonder if Ellie left to commit suicide since there's nothing left for her. She doesn't know where Dina & JJ are or if they are even back in Jackson.

Just played a couple of games on the Oculus.  I’ve never had a chance to do anything VR before.

The Vader Immortal game was pretty great.  Though I am scared of heights. Climbing up the side of Vader’s Mustafar castle was super awesome.

Right now, after playing the Mission ISS game.  I’m just about ready to puke.  It appears I’ve no stomach for being an astronaut.  Lol

Got my 189th Platinum trophy with Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal for PS3. I ran into a major issue with the game where the weapon shop completely glitched on me and I couldn't unlock any more weapons. So I had to revert to an earlier save to complete the game. I did what I could with the original save but had to roll it back. Apparently, Idle Minds ran into problems porting the game to PS3.

so, The Last of Us Remastered just got an update that cuts loading times down by A LOT. Like, loading a saved game and creating a new game only takes around 13 seconds. Before the patch, it was at least a minute. This, combined with the fact that God Of War and GoW III Remastered just got updates as well... is it safe to say that the list of games on the PS Plus Collection will be optimized for PS5, even though they're older(ish) games? Maybe the much talked about 60fps Bloodborne patch isn't out of the question now. I don't think it was ever said by Sony that these games will get upgrades, just that they're obviously backwards compatible and being released "for free" to PS5 owners - no doubt in an attempt to pad their launch titles. But this gives me hope.

I'm really just hoping for these games to take advantage of stuff like the haptic feedback and whatnot, because at launch, I'm really only going to be playing a PS4 game (Cyberpunk) and probably Miles Morales. I'll be sad to let Avengers go, but I'll come back once they either A) release new content or B) the PS5 upgrade is released.

EDIT: Oh, and not related to any of that - Vampyr is TRASH. I'm into the story and stuff, but the gameplay is fucking terrible. Dontnod should just focus on games like Life Is Strange and Tell Me Why, clearly.

I had been reading previews about PS5 and Xbox.  I am ended up with Xbox one and PS4 but think I'm going PS5 just for content alone but I had heard that the majority of people don't/will not have a TV to support the graphics that the system promises.  Is there truth to this?  Many people had commented on the page that they weren't going to spent $1500+ on a tv that could handle the graphics plus the $400-$500 for the system.   I'l likely buy the system within a year either way but would be nice to have the full experience.

That's only true for games that can run at 4k and 120 fps or 8k/60fps iirc. Most 4k TVs sold at reasonable prices up to now only have 60hz and don't support the necessary HDMI 2.1 that handles the above specs. I know my 4k tv and receiver don't and it is a massive investment to upgrade both but from my understanding most games are struggling to even maintain 60fps and 4k on the new consoles right now so we are probably a few years away from missing out on anything important if the upgrade is really all that noticeable to begin with. At least those were my takeaways when doing some research after preordering. I would hope that by the time games that actually use HDMI 2.1 are released regularly that the prices will have dropped.

It's not really a concern, but if it were it would be for both systems as both are going to be HMDI 2.1 compliant.

I'm planning on buying both(have an Xbox preorder, looking for a PS5), and I still have a 1080p television.  With that said, my TV is pushing 7 years old which is pretty much the estimated lifespan of the average LED screen.  I'm looking to move in the next 6-12 months and will probably buy my next 8k OLED television then.  The thing is, if you have a 1080p television, you won't even notice what you aren't seeing.  Whether or not your eyes can even tell the difference is still up for debate.  If you haven't seen 8K video you aren't going to miss it if you use a 1080p television.

Until I handled an Oculus I had no idea just how rudimentary and sad the PSVR is, and now I'm ready to buy one with my PS5 war chest since I probably won't be able to buy one of those til after I get my 2021 tax refund
