Our reflexes turn to total shit when we get older. Imagine someone who was amazing at Pinball games or early arcade games going back and playing them now. For the most part, they'd start them on fire.

Funny enough, as bad as the game was whooping me (17 recorded deaths, and at least 10 that I didn't "retry" so they weren't counted), I blew through the final boss in 1 try without issue.  I think a lot was forgetting where stuff was, and how the enemies in C:V were just faster and some had better distance than enemies in the original 3 did.  Also, I haven't played C:V in over 10 years so that probably had something to do with it.

I'm also going to say, muscle memory in video games is totally a thing, where my issue with 4 is/was that I keep trying to use the controls for 2/3 Remake with 4 and, yeah, not having much luck there.

Anyone else really like Mortal Shell?  I had reasonably high expectations for it, but I'm never thought about it as a GoTY contender or anything.  I still wouldn't rank it that high, but it's in my top 10 of the year so far.  It's definitely one of my favorite Soulslike clones.

I'm guessing it won't end the year in my top 10, but it will be close.  It's a ways behind the heavyweights and I'm expecting November to be loaded with contenders for GotY games.  I'm sure the PS5 versions will be a little better, but I'm still expecting The Pathless and Miles Morales to be outstanding PS4 titles.   Not sure what to expect out of AC and Cyberpunk.  I'm in wait-and-see mode until the reviews start rolling out.  I really don't have any interest in Cyberpunk even though I quite like the Witcher games and expect CD Projekt Red to turn out something special.

I think I finally understand Twitch. I've wanted to play stuff like Bloodborne, Dark Souls trilogy, etc. for awhile, but the level of difficulty has always put me off. But now I can live vicariously through my two favorite Funhaus members (Jon & Jacob) as the latter plays it for the first time. And I don't have to pull my hair out in frustration like I would if I actually played the game myself.

As a drummer, somebody who's muscle memory is key, this is 100% true and why I have to stick to one serious game at a time unless the controls are similar. Even something like the change up in Arkham City's use of the triggers to Arkham Knight and I'm all fucked up and lost.

This lack of parity is exactly what you want going into a new console generation.

Considering that they're discontinuing the ability to buy PS3 games via the website which means using the cumbersome console dashboard on the 3, I think it's safe to say that Sony considers 3 to be completely dead.

Yup, Mario 35 has hit full on addiction levels for me.  Can't. Stop. Playing.  I'm amazed at how well this game is designed, the risk/reward balance with harder levels and enemies as well as going for time or coins, it's perfect.  I just wish more people would choose later levels, matches that are nonstop levels 1-1 and 1-2 get a bit old.

Ended up ordering Twilight Princess for GC; if it turns out I don't like it, I can always just put it back on Ebay and get most of my money back.  Made more sense (right now at least) than adding yet another console.  My TV area is a bit overfull as-is.  If this nation pulls its head out of its collective ass and passes another round of stimulus checks, I'm going to pay someone to haul off some furniture, and maybe I'll make a little space for consoles.

Finished Link's Awakening.  That is in fact a kind-of messed-up game.  But I like being able to jump in a top-down Zelda.  Added to the Unintentional Nintendo Porn Catalog: "Organ of Evening Calm".  Geez.  Plus I just realized how "Duck Hunt" sounds if you say it the right way.  What is wrong with me?

Ok, I need a break because RE4 is murdering me repeatedly and I'm beating my head into the wall.  So, I got GoT.

Oh my god this is amazing.

I recently finished it and now I'm in the process of getting 100%, but holy hell what a game! Easily in my top five best PS4 games.

Got my 188th Platinum trophy with Driver: San Francisco.

The good:

- Soundtrack is god tier.

- Some of the activities/dares are fun to do.

The bad:

- Drifting is annoying and it has really bad rubberbanding AI.

- NPC cars just don't move when you hit them.

- The dares toward the end became tedious to do.

- It has online trophies.

Just got the Platinum for Ghost of Tsushima, and I have to give the game props in yet another department - all but two trophies came naturally as I played through and explored the world, only had to look up two hidden ones and they weren't anything crazy. Good game til the very end!

Thanks for reminding me that I fell woefully behind in my progress once I finished Act 1. I keep finding myself playing Civ 6 and I really should finish up Ghost before Cyberpunk comes out.

I got my second clear on Hades last night, so I've got one with the sword and one with the shield.  I know this is a good ass game because when I'm not playing it I'm thinking about different builds.

I also gave Genshin Impact a shot because, you know, free.  It seems pretty alright for the price and "Breath of the Wild, but it's anime nonsense and a little bit shitty" is a totally acceptable game pitch to me.  I didn't get far enough to interact with any of the gacha parts so that might change my opinion.

I decided that after finishing Ghost, I would play something drastically different and fired up Heavy Rain which is something I got for free, so no money down. Can anybody tell me if the story is good enough to deal with that absolutely awful control scheme? I truly hated using r2 as a walk button and the right stick for actions, just completely unnatural and backwards in my mind.

@christopher.annino I had the collection that had Heavy Rain in it, but I never tried it. But I know that game is similar to the ones I'm talking about below. I think I heard it was pretty good - if you like these types of games. I loved D:BH, and Beyond Two Souls seemed interesting for the maybe 40 minutes I played it.

Speaking of narrative, choice based games - I decided to jump back into the Council on a whim yesterday and I'm plowing through the story. I love games like this one, Life Is Strange, Detroit Become Human, etc. But, that being said... when this was mostly a geopolitical New World Order/Illuminati type game, I was really into it, but I just got to the fourth part of the game and this shit took a hard turn into occult/paranormal territory and I'm not a fan so far.

I started this one also.

Haven't gotten past the first couple tutorial missions but it seems alright.

Having issues with my Dualshock 4 that I need to fix before I get too involved in gaming any more with the PS4.

Shot a video on my Nintendo Pro Controller drift issues and fix.

Will probably do the same for the Dualshock 4.

There were almost 25 games released for PS4 this week.  I didn't even bother to count how many games were released for other platforms but not on PS4.  25!  People gripe about how easy it i for good titles to get lost on the various e-services, but I don't see how it can be any different when you're getting this many new titles per week.  The Switch and PSN e-shops are always going to be a mess no matter how you sort titles or redesign the interface.  There's just too many titles.

I know I'm going to weaken and buy next gen consoles sooner than I should, but I really want to hold out a year or two and let them build up their catalogs.   I've probably bought more games from this gen than most people, and there are still hundreds (God, I hope the number isn't over 1,000) games I want to play.

Edit: Just saw the post about Heavy Rain.  I thought the story was good.  The ending gets wonky if you think about it too hard, but it's a good game.  I like David Cage quite a bit.  Detroit: BH is in my top 10-15 PS4 games.

Like a lot of people in the Covid times, I started breaking out my old systems from when I was a kid. Got my old NES, SNES and Sega Genesis going. And either I was a super genius as a kid or my reflexes are now on par with a coma patient and I've gotten progressively dumber as I've gotten older because it's a chore for me to beat games I used to fly through. I used to be able to pretty much just speed run through Life Force whenever I wanted but now I almost use every one of the 30 lives that the classic Konami Code gives you in that one.
