Tonight I learned from a friend that a guy I used to know online really well (but haven't actually talked to in probably a decade) has become a rather famous Destiny streamer on twitch, even presented at E3 last year.

The bad news is the context of being told this: https://www.dexerto.com/amp/entertainment/destiny-streamer-saynotorage-accused-of-harassment-by-multiple-women-1382207

Yup, one of the key figures in the current Twitch hellscape.

Yeah posted a video in the Destiny thread from another streamer who talked about that guy and the general cabal of harrassers, cheaters, and all around assholes he was clan mates with. How did you know the guy?

What percentage of TLOUII resentment culture is a smokescreen for not being able to control any male characters? I really don't know - I plan on finally starting Uncharted 2 this year. I'm nowhere near the loop.

You are in for a treat. Uncharted 2 is one of the greatest games of all-time. The train sequence... man.

Uncharted 1 and 2 control like shit, though. Or maybe that's just me. I can never get Nathan to run, it's always a walk then a half second of a sprint and repeat that until I come to a full stop. It's weird.

From a message board. Originally the official fan boards of the band Project 86, and then later, after the band shut down the board, a group of us migrated together to just kinda a general board (and honestly P86 just kinda stopped being much of an interest even on that board.)

I don't think he'd posted anything there since fairly early into starting the twitch channel, and I almost never go there anymore, so I had no idea he even was on Twitch, much less... All that.

It basically plays like Bastion, but they've had several years to refine that shit. The upgrade system seems pretty cool (I am only 3 hours in, but I've seen a fair amount of the game played elsewhere). The surprise it that the story and characters are really interesting and fun, which is off the board for the genre. I had a hard time putting the visual aesthetic together with "ancient Greece" when I first saw it, but it absolutely works once you get into it. The game has a very clear sense of style they went for, and they hit it. There's really not much of anything I can critique so far. If people liked Bastion, this is absolutely better.

For whatever reason (and probably because I don't remember / blocked out portions from memory), I'm replaying the campaign for The Last of Us Remastered. The "David" section is still a janky piece of shit section of the game. I'm doing it before I dive back into TLOU Part II.

You would think after Platinum'ing the PS3 version and trying to do the PS4 version too, I would get around to Platinum'ing the Resident Evil series but noooo.

My son got 77% towards to base game trophies, and I'm tempted to do clean up just for the Platinum. He's since started using his own PSN account, which is nice, but has a good few years of unfinished games on my account.

I'll gladly take his Jedi Fallen Order plat, though (and to be fair he redid it on his account too).

Just Cause 3 is up there with LEGO Marvel Super Heroes as a rage inducing Platnum attempt. Easiest ones to get 5 gears on are wingsuit challenges at least for me.

I have been spoiled by my recent run on giant beasties in Dragon's Dogma.   My pawns and I can take out ogres, chimerae, and cyclopes without too much trouble even though the encounters are a nuisance, but there is a fucking lesser dragon that wanders the forest in the south of the continent during the day and it can burn us all to death in seconds.

Exploring that section of the game world to fill out the map is a pain in the ass, but I have to find a good route so that I can start running escort missions to Bloodwater Beach and also go farm materials there.

Beat DragonQuest over the weekend, so take that off the pile. If anything I've been pretty happy with the titles I've checked off my shame list during quarantine(Horizon: Zero Dawn, X-Com2, DQ11,).

Last night was the start of The Last of Us 2. It's fucking insane to look at. I don't put a lot of weight on graphics when it comes to games appeal, but I can certainly appreciate it. Some of this shit is just ridiculous.

I got through the first "chapter" last night. I like the characters introduced including the Laura Bailey one. Playing the build up to the inciting incident was fun. I have some conflicting ideas about that moment because I think being shocking isn't shocking anymore and so it comes off as lazy. But I'm also fine with it because I'm interested in the story possibilities and the main conflict.

Wait, did Crucible ever actually come out?  I swear like,  nothing for it, and have no memory of ANY Twitch streamer playing it, which also makes no sense as you know, you'd figure Amazon would beg people to stream their game on their platform.

Interesting read regarding how....weird for lack of better word... Naughty Dog's response has been to any criticism regarding The Last of Us 2

Quote

By all accounts, The Last of Us Part 2 is a smashing success: The survival horror game has a 94 on review score-collating site Metacritic and has already sold millions of copies. Sony called it the “the fastest-selling first-party PS4 exclusive ever,” which would be cause to celebrate ... except for the fact that merely discussing the game has become, within large swaths of the video game community, toxic. It’s exhausting.

----------------

That protective shield around The Last of Us Part 2 can be seen any time the creatives or talent behind the game jump into critical conversations about it. It’s made talking about the game exhausting. On the one hand, we have bigots trying their hardest to tear the game down for its inclusion of queer characters. On the other hand, we’ve got the people who actually made the game putting their figurative fists up. On the third hand (go with it), we’ve got fans and professional critics trying to share their own takes on the game, good and bad and everything in between.

-----------------

But, based on my own conversations with fellow critics, many have assumed an air of wariness about The Last of Us Part 2 discourse. It feels as if there are all these larger forces working toward maintaining the status quo when it comes to big-budget games. It’s not enough that the game is selling well, and that most reviews are positive; you can’t fall out of line with that general consensus, even as a joke, without having to worry about whether or not a publisher will be looking over your shoulder, or if hundreds of fans will blow up your social media. It is not an environment that is conducive to encouraging honest reviews or critical discussion, which is ultimately a disservice to the game itself.

i've been laid off work due to COVID for about 14 weeks now, and my return to my job is imminent. I've used a lot of this time to play old school games that i'd never beaten, and in some cases never really played much of. I tried to go old school as much as possible, avoiding walkthroughs, videos, and even guide books. Games in written in color have been on my list for literally years. Here's my list of what i've completed for the first time and a one line thought of each:

Metroid (NES) - masterpiece. if i'd played this as a kid it would've been my #2 game after Zelda
Metroid II (GB) - way better than expected
Super Metroid (SNES) - super masterpiece. every change from the original is for the better.

TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan (GB) - really slow paced. not very much fun.
Little Nemo, Dream Master (NES) - rented many times as a kid, could never pass the train stage of world 3. cool mechanics.

Castlevania (NES) -  really good game. good amount of challenge. lots of love
Castlevania II (NES) - played using a walkthrough. a better and easier game than i expected
Castlevania 3 (NES) - difficult as all get out. a true sequel to CV1 and better in pretty much every way.
Super Castlevania IV (SNES) - some really cool level designs and a good amount of challenge.

Super Mario 3D Land (3ds) - lots of fun. 3d World for the Wii-U was better tho.
Little Mermaid (NES) - super easy. how did i not beat this before now?

Kid Icarus (NES) - beaten on the Wii-U using save states. this game is tough!
Kid Icarus II (GB) - quite easier than the NES version, IMO a better game too

Mole Mania (GB) - super addictive puzzle game. if you haven't heard of this, totally worth a play
Kirby's Dream Land (GB) - ridiculously easy. kirby can't absorb enemies' abilities yet

Been playing games on Switch for obvious reasons. Mostly games I missed out on the first time around that were re-released on it.

Cuphead: Love the animation, but God do I suck at this.

Okami: I love when games really dive into the Japanese mythology without taking itself too seriously, so this has been a delight so far. The music is nice too. I loved Muramasa on Wii, so the tunes really jam.

Civ6: Fuck me this is a lot to learn. Still on the tutorial.

New Super Mario U Deluxe: Like this isn’t gonna be good. Come on now. I am not very good at this though.

This is why I barely interact with most big game groups, forums, etc.  There really is no discussion or discourse.  I have zero interest in the game and according to some that makes me a homophobe because I don't want to play it, even though I could care less about the sexuality/gender of the characters.  It just looks boring to me.

Finally mapped a path to Bloodwater Beach by heading south from the Rest Camp near the southern entrance to the Abandoned Quarry and then hugging the coastline.

It was my pleasure to ambush the goblins at the coastal fort and then use their ballista to murder the shit out of the pair of cyclopes that harassed my party the first time I tried to explore the region.

Now that I have a portcrystal set up right at the beach, I can teleport there whenever I want when I need super rare items like Noonflowers and Seeker Tokens.  It will also help if any escort missions pop up on the Action Board from folks that want to go to the area.  I am all about easy missions for free loot, especially if it is from a merchant.  The prices for upper tier gear are fucking insane and I am just now getting to the point where I am not bleeding gold coins.

Still so much to do.  I have some side quests to finish up but TBH most of my time is spent farming for rare materials to upgrade new weapons and gear, so I am exploring every nook and cranny of the map..... which is how I ran afoul of that fucking dragon.

It doesn't help that some of the rarer materials in the game can be used to either enhance gear or be used as gifts.  It sucks when you find out that the item you just used to temper your weapon or armor could've been used to curry favor with an NPC merchant who is charging ridiculous amounts of gold for the gear upgrades you want.

Next order of business is to mount an expedition to the Greatwall Encampent once I get my hands on another portcrystal.  I've set up three and have one in my inventory, but I like to keep a spare so that I can just set it down and port back to a city to sell off loot fodder when I've grabbed too much shit and all of my characters are close to max encumbrance.

I just didn't like the first game

I played some of Left Behind because I think it was free on PS Plus and it didn't seem like anything special to me.

Did it have Kirk Cameron in it?

I'm pretty sure there's some kind of devil in video games so Cameron wouldn't go near it.
