2020 INDIE WRESTLING

RIPPA

Just watched David Starr vs Erick Stevens at Beyond Heavy Lies the Crown and I have no idea why Stevens is retiring .   He might be better now then he was in his ROH/FIP prime.   I would recommend watching that match if you have the chance

Statlander vs Silver was pretty awesome too. And the ref had great timing on the shoot proposal angle. "I didn't just ref my final match of 2019, I just reffed the final match of my life... as a single man"

Right, the promotion that basically shifted their entire divisional plans based on her impressive performances to feature her in a title match and probable following angle with Brandi is gonna piss her career away. Ooooh yeah.

So, resulting from the SMV/IWTV merger, IWTV will be live streaming an AIW show in February, and they just put up 4 past GCW shows for on-demand streaming (there had been no GCW on there previously). This is very good.

It is very good as long as it turns into a merger.  The only thing that worries me is

1.  The companies that Smartmark don't feature like the Mid Atlantic and Southern indies are moved to the side

2.  The companies that Smartmark does features is treated but like currently where it is this random let's just throw some shit on the channel stuff.

Putting the AIW show on live is a really good sign because right now their AIW is the most random stuff

I didn't see all of the "Fans Bring the Weapons" match at Heavy Lies the Crown. But I did see that one fan was nice enough to just bring a pillow. The "Dogs playing poker" wrapped in barbed wire was a nice touch too.

IWTV  and smartmark are doing a bigger deal in 2020. So far the newest promotion added was GCW and you can now see a few GCW shows (including the first Janella Spring Break) on demand.  I believe they will also be showing AIW and GCW shows live in 2020.  I really like the IWTV app and have watched a ton of shows I normally wouldn't.  I am still not 100% sold on Warhorse Jake Parnell though.  Curious what the rest of you think of him.

I can see why they kept the belt on Warhorse last night, but I think Manders is probably getting it sooner or later. Because if you draw a mental picture of "Guy trained by Seth Rollins", you think great physical shape, great highspots, bland character. And here's this chunky heavyweight King's Road Cowboy who is a substance over style guy and really engages the fans at all times...

Manders is a weird transformation because he originally showed up as this generic white meat babyface in his Iowa letterman jacket.   I don't know why he decided to change himself into a Ron Bass looking cowboy but it is definitely working.

Considering wrestling history, seems like a smart move. "I used to play football, but now I'm in wrestling to work hard and believe in myself", that's Jesse Sorenson and early Lex Luger. "I used to play football, but now I'm in wrestling and I'm a wild eyed country boy looking to beat somebody's ass", that's Terry Funk, Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, Stone Cold...

Watching ICW New York's No Holds Barred on IWTV. Whole show is no DQ/Countout/Submission, only win by Pinfall or ref stoppage, chains for ropes. Tessa Blanchard faced Nick Gage in the opener, and called out Amazing Red after. Haven't got to Necro Butcher's match yet, but apparently he didn't look good.

EDIT: Necro looked terrible. Hopefully that was his last match. He appears to be about 70 years old now, and he's lost a ton of muscle mass (not that he was jacked at his peak or anything). He couldn't really do anything in the match, even taking bumps seemed to be a really big ask. Please don't come back, Necro.

It's going to be hard to top Necro/Shlak for worst match of the year. Necro looked like Dynamite Kid in that 1996 Michinoku pro match. It was sad seeing him bump in half speed and Shlak is awful. The crowd sounded stunned when they saw Necro at first. Rest of the show was a mixed bag. Maff/Mancer was a perfect sendoff for Maff and Deppen/Killer kross ruled. Main event was weird as Ki gave that poor guy nothing who flew all the way from japan. The Warriors way finish at the end was brutal.

This Rory Gulak news is insane.  Looks like a fan mentioned something to Quack and the police were called. Gulak apparently had Child Porn in his possesion. Lots of people on twitter telling odd stories of things he had messaged them in private and on Snapchat.  Dude comes across creepier than Ellsworth if that is even possible.

just read that Chikara severed ties with Rory Gulak due to some serious accusations.  This is the first I heard of this, does anyone have the story?

I just heard about this too. I did a quick google search and the only thing I could find were allegations of "misconduct". Nothing specific.

Jon and I got started around the same time in SoCal. I almost ring announced his audition for UPW as he was possibly going to be late. He was an excellent announcer and a hell of a guy. He had some health issues that he almost passed away from a couple years ago. I seem to recall he spent a moderate time in a coma.
