NFL 2019 - WEEK SIXTEEN

Dolfan in NYC

To add to Drew Brees' bananas career... if he completes his first 4 passes on Sunday, he will get the record for most consecutive completions.

This is a good time to remind everyone that Nick Saban thought Daunte Culpepper was a better choice than Brees.

Fuck him, forever.

Nick Saban made a choice between two injured quarterbacks.  At that point Daunte Culpepper was a better professional quarterback than Drew Brees.  Drew Brees had just had a pretty terrible shoulder injury and no one in their right mind would have chose him over Daunte Culpepper, who threw for 4700 yards and 39 touchdowns in his last healthy season (Brees' best season to that point 3500 yards and 27 TDs).  The knee injury he suffered in 2005 ruined his career.  He was one of the best young quarterbacks in the league and was the better choice if he would have got back to that level.  The only reason he was even available is because he got caught up in the Love Boat scandal (The Love Boat scandal is probably the #1 draft pick for 30 for 30s that everyone would watch, but will never happen).  Brees is an all-time great, but there was no way to know that when Saban made that decision.

Thank you. Brees wasn't exactly seen as great back then. And Culpepper was off the charts when healthy.

Well the Lions hate success

The Lions don't get nearly enough credit for being arguably the worst franchise in sports.  The Detroit Lions have won one playoff game, not in my life time, but in my mother's lifetime.

They've had the best running back of the last 30 years, maybe the best wide receiver of the last 15, an elite arm talent at quarterback and done absolutely nothing with them.

There are plenty of terrible sports franchises, but 1 playoff win since 1957 is about as inept as a franchise can possibly be.

Not only that, but two of the three quit in their prime, rather than continue to be Lions. . .

Counterpoint: Nick Saban should be decapitated by a helicopter.

Fuck them for letting Barry Sanders' career amount to individual statistics. Dorks.

To be fair, if they don't run into an all-time Redskins team in '91, they win the Super Bowl. Of course, they trashed everything the next year because 13-5 just wasn't good enough.

Allegedly the only reason Miami chose Culpepper was a belief he would recover better than Brees.

Culpepper did have some great years, but he was also plugged into a team that had arguably the greatest wife receiver duo in NFL history.

Random football question alert!!!!!!!!!

After seeing Drew Brees break records, and then seeing a tweet about Russell Wilson never receiving a single MVP vote, I have a question.  Who is the best quarterback of all time, who was never the best quarterback in the league?

Has Drew Brees ever had a single season when he was the best quarterback in the league?  2012 is probably his best case, but he lead the league in interceptions that year.  2006 he is named 1st team All-Pro, but Peyton Manning had more touchdowns and fewer interceptions that year.

The Seahawks didn't make the playoffs in 2017, when Wilson had his best year.  Wilson lead the league in touchdown passes, The Seahawks offense scored 38 touchdowns, Wilson either threw or ran 37 of them.  I'd hear an argument that he's the best player in the league that year, let alone the best quarterback.  We judge quarterbacks on team wins, but that is such a flawed way to judge these things.

Any other nominees?

I have been reminded that this might be the first time in history where the Raven's playoff hopes have not depended on a Steelers win or loss.

I hate football.

That's a damn good choice.  Montana, Marino, Elway, are probably better than him every year during his peak.  Looking at his stats, I forgot how long he played.  He was in the league in 2000...sheesh.

Even I had to look up what team this tweet was talking about before finding out it was the freaking Panthers.

This season has veered so far into the darkest timeline.

The line for Cam Newton apologies starts here.
