Zimbra
I believe we've also had our first COVID-related game cancellation as Southern and Florida A&M will not be playing on Sept 12 as planned.
EVA
Alabama and Ohio State will play a home-and-home series in 2027/2028. Saban won’t be the coach by then, so who knows what the state of Bama will be. Might be like all these Bama/USC games that were scheduled before they went to shit. EVA
In addition re: Bama/OSU Theres officially a new pattern emerging in Bama’s scheduling. For the last 10+ years, it’s been one marquee neutral site game against a P5 opponent and 3 G5/FCS opponents. Starting in 2025, Bama will play two games against marquee P5 opponents every year (including Notre Dame and Ohio State in 2028, which is wild). This suggests to me that the Bama braintrust is expecting the CFB playoff to expand to 8 teams before or near that time.

Zimbra
Kansas State shut down practices for 2 weeks after they got 14 positive tests. LSU also reportedly has 30 players quarantined. Robert C
Not quite college, but high school football practices have fired up here in Texas. Unsurprisingly, with our exploding Covid rates, quite a few schools have already had to shut down due to positive tests. Last I heard, the count here in town was four schools that have been hit. hammerva
They better hope that this trend doesn't keep happening in the next 2 months because unless they are going to increase the roster size they are either going to have a huge number of forfeits or team with legit sick people playing
Zimbra
Under Armour is trying to terminate its sponsorship deal with UCLA. UA was already in financial trouble before Covid so I imagine they're even more fucked now. According to wikipedia UA sponsors 22 D1 schools plus the entirety of Conference USA so if they start trying to renege on more contracts you're going to see a lot of athletic departments with a hole blown in their budgets. EVA
We didn’t really talk about it here, but the state of Mississippi just voted to change their state flag (that included the Confederate flag), based largely on Mississippi State star RB Kylin Hill’s threat that he wouldn’t play as long as that flag still flew. He received a lot of support from every college athletic department in the state, but he was the guy who got the conversation started. So that’s pretty cool. Or just keep what they need to maintain the appearance of Title IX compliance.
