NCAAF 2019-20: Week 14

The playoff picture seems pretty clear after today.

LSU and OSU are in, no matter what happens next week, so we’re pretty much just trying to figure out 2 spots.

If Clemson strolls by Virginia, as expected, they’re in.

If Georgia beats LSU, they’re in.

If one or both of those teams lose, the pecking order is likely P12 champ Utah, Big 12 champ (OU or Baylor), B1G champ Wisconsin, P12 champ Oregon.

Pretty simple.

Only way I can see LSU or Ohio being left out is if they shockingly just get wrecked. Like a 48-17 beat down type of thing. Even then, it might not keep em out of the 4 spot, but historically getting blown out is the unforgivable sin to the committee.

Having to rally in the fourth to beat Maryland in order to get bowl eligible is not a good look for Sparty. Dantonio has had a great run in East Lansing, but this feels like a "retire so I don't get fired" kind of finish coming on for him.

Also, has there ever been a rivalry to so completely turn like Michigan-Ohio? Since 2001, Ohio is 17-2* in The Game, which came immediately after a 15 year stretch where Michigan went 12-2-1. It hasn't been a back and forth kind of thing since the first half of the 80's, but both teams have now had a long stretch of just absolutely owning it (though, to be clear, nobody has been this dominant in it since Michigan went 13-0-2 to start the rivalry between 1897 and 1918.)

*Officially 16-2, one of the wins was vacated over that stupid tattoo thing

Alabama/Tennessee is somewhat comparable.  Bama is on a 13-game win streak against Tennessee, but prior to that Tennessee had won 10 out of 12.  Prior to THAT, Bama went on an 8-0-1 run.  Very streaky rivalry.

Texas A&M/Texas was like that starting in the mid 80s.  10-1 Aggies followed immediately by 9-2 Texas

When I think streaks in sports, I ways think first of the mlb all star game.

From 1933 to 1949, the American League won 12 out of the first 16. The National League dominated from 1950 to 1987, winning 33 of 42 with 1 tie. This included a stretch from 1963 to 1982 when it won 19 of 20, including 11 in a row from 1972 to 1982. Since 1988, the American League has dominated, winning 24 of 31 with 1 tie, including a 13-game unbeaten streak (12–0–1) from 1997 to 2009.

Contrary to what was reported before, Rutgers has reportedly reached an 8 year deal for Greg Schiano to return as head coach.

From following on twitter, it went the exact opposite of what happened at Tennessee, fans were outraged they didnt hire him they got them to hire him back

Ole Miss has fired Matt Luke.  First coach to ever lose his job because a player pretended to take a piss on the field?

It was a firing I didn't expect. Record didn't indicate that Luke really exceeded expectations and is having to deal with the Freeze fall out stuff.

Poor Ole Miss and Arkansas will probably be in the SEC Doldrums for awhile, but Arkansas wants you to know they interviewed Lane Kiffin!

To the surprise of no one - Feleipe Franks announced he will be leaving Florida

He hasn't decided if he is going to enter the NFL draft or transfer to another school (he would be a graduate transfer so eligible to play right away)
