What if you do a show that's top-to-bottom Lights Out matches?

They already have a show like that.

Oh I just thought of something. If you’ve watched all the previous AEW Lights Out matches Justin Roberts has a spiel about how exactly these matches are unsanctioned. Of course we’ve discussed these matches happen at the very end of the cards. But what if let’s say it happens before the title match, and they do the “Lights go out” bit. Now that is where you could potentially do the “Dusty Finish” of the title match. Because as stated apparently in the rule books if the lights go out, then the show is over, and everything after that doesn’t count. Cody “wins” but Jericho(in a throwback) spends weeks trying to argue that the match didn’t happen, and he’s still champ, then eventually Cody can vacate it back to Jericho.

When they announced Full Gear I just assumed it'd be a filler, IYH type deal and I wasn't planning on getting it. But TV has been really good in hyping up the 2 big matches especially, plus the rest of the card looks decent. After this week's Dynamite I was totally on board and I've already spent the £15 for the PPV. Even my Mrs has asked me not to stay up and watch it live, but to wait until Sunday morning so she can watch as well.

I really like how I genuinely don't know who is going to win, but most importantly, I can enjoy the show either way. I also like speculating on who should be #1 contender, and it not being decided on who walks out and interrupts the champ on the next TV show. I believe the winner of PAC v Page (in my opinion PAC) should be challenging for the title next.

I don't understand the resistance to putting the number one babyface in the company in the hottest angle in the company over in the main event of their pay per view.  I find it baffling.  Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

I agree as well. I want Cody to win the belt more than anything after Saturday. But I have this issue where the spirit of carrot on the stick booking invades my body, and I have fun imagining the goofy ways they can have the heel “win” without hurting the babyface. I also fear they may have booked themselves into a corner with the Inner Circle. If they aren’t holding the main belt, then they’ll be weakened as a whole. If this was a team led by Shawn Spears, then I could understand crippling them soon. But this is Chris Jericho, and even though his star has faded, he’s still a star with a lot of sway. I can’t imagine that Jericho wants to be kicked down the card as a character so soon.

I also don’t want Cody to hold the belt for a short period. Cody is so strong as a face, that you can potentially build a laundry list of challengers for two years, and I believe he can still make them all compelling somehow. Whichever way they go decides the way the company will run for the foreseeable future.

Personally I think the Inner Circle while fun has a very short lifespan, and like I said Cody as a top guy defending the belt against would-be challengers might be ultimately more interesting. I think in a perfect world without Jericho in the company, Cody as the leader of the Inner Circle taking on would-be face challengers probably could’ve been a stronger, and fresher program if you wanted a top heel champion. While Jericho has never been in a role like this(BTW he’s doing a fantastic job at it) he’s still an old face, and he’s an old body who can’t keep up with the young guys in the ring. To a simple person without an open mind, old Jericho as the top heel might be a real turnoff. Similar to WWF fans rejecting the older looking Flair as a challenger, and champion. Which admittedly as a 7 year old at the time, I was in fact turned off by the sight of Ric Flair. Watching him claim to be the real worlds champion, and then in fact win the belt was devastating to me. I wonder if the same thoughts run through the minds of fans today with Jericho as champ.

Agreed! I think when the company was formed, they thought Omega was going to be the #1 babyface but Cody has taken over and screwed up their plans.

Cody has to contend with his legacy as Dusty's son. Even if it isn't exactly the case, Cody is viewed as the booker. And if a booker named Rhodes puts himself over + gives himself the belt at the company's first post-TV PPV, it's a bad look. It's an easy talking point for critics and the competition. Way too much baggage for something unnecessary. And it is very unnecessary - Cody is honest-to-God over enough to not need a belt and he's probably quite aware of it. Taking himself out of the title picture is a show of good faith to the other talent that he won't Dusty himself to the top. allows Cody to still book himself strong in unique, story driven feuds that aren't about a title chase, allows Chris Jericho (who is still bar-none the company's biggest draw) to stay on top and let the Inner Circle continue to solidify themselves,  and sets up Cody rescinding the rule if he's turned heel down the line.

From where I stand, Jericho wins and it isn't even debatable. We'll see. I also think people are forgetting that Omega/Moxley may well end up being the first all-the-way Kenny Omega main event w/ a fully capable partner since Tanahashi at the Dome, that Kenny's run as the critic's "Best Wrestler In The World" is an essential reason why AEW even exists, and that nobody wants to go on after him when he's given all that spotlight. I don't know if that means Kenny goes over and becomes the guy to unseat Jericho, but I do think the Lights Out Match is going on last.

Hootie will apparently be at Full Gear.

They should book a celeb match. Cody teams with Hootie to take on Jericho, and Dave Matthews. On one of the go home shows Dave Matthews can whip out his dick, and urinate on Hootie, and Cody all while laughing maniacally.

These are very valid points and if this happened I wouldn't be the least bit upset.  But when Cody held the belt up something about it just felt so damn right and has me hoping he wins.  Not because he's Dusty's son but because of just how incredible a face he's become in AEW.

And holy shit the closer it gets the more excited we are.  The last two matches are really going to deliver and the undercard has various things we're looking forward to.  It doesn't appear we're getting the Casino Battle Royale which is fine but my wife's really hoping Sonny Kiss is in a match on the pre-show somewhere (me too for that matter, we absolutely love him)

I'm still debating on whether I should order the PPV through traditional means or on the BR Live website.

@NikoBaltimore Baker/Priestly is the only Buy-In match. In the Observer it was noted that AEW has listened to fan complaints and cut down the length of the show by an hour. So now the preshow will only be 30 minutes long, and feature one match.

I also assume the Casino Battle Royale will only be once a year for the men & women going forward - likely to determine who gets a title shot.

I can't believe this is tomorrow. I'm fucking stoked.

Unfortunately, I think I'm going to miss it live. I'm still going to order it as a way of throwing in my support, but my daughter is going to a slumber party and my wife wants a date night, which likely means dinner and going to see Terminator. I'm going to have to go full radio silent until I'm done watching the show and hopefully nothing gets spoiled when I try to watch the replay on B/R Live.

Speaking of, is B/R Live still doing the lame shit where you can't watch the replay until the next day?

Not sure really. I haven’t used it since All Out.

I’m going with B/R Live anyway. I haven’t ordered a traditional PPV in years so I’m not sure you can get unlimited access through a stream afterwards, but I know you can on B/R Live.

I'll probably end up doing it on BR Live but I'm pretty annoyed their website doesn't seem to work correctly through the Chrome browser.

Yeah, a bit too early to dethrone Jericho, but it’s gotta happen.  There’s no way this company delivers a stipulation of their top babyface never challenging again and then rescind said stipulation.  Unless of course they have a really great creative idea around it.  I can’t imagine what that would be. Cody going over isn’t Dustying himself.  It’s TK’s call and Cody is unquestionably deserved.  That said I have no idea how this ends and I’m very happy not knowing.

As mentioned across the board, what an incredible go home show! What doesn’t seem to have been mentioned was how great that preview show was.  Fantastic use of their excellent production team. Stoked for this whole show.  I expect the Baltimore crowd will be absolutely electric.

Do you have a streaming device? I own a Fire TV Stick, and it’s quite easy. I’ve never even been to the actual website through a browser. Instead I’ve exclusively used the app on my phone, and in the as mentioned Fire TV Stick.

I have a smart TV and an Xbox, both of which I’m assuming don’t have the BR Live app. I’m usually working on the weekends but I’m on vacation from work this week, so for one day only I can bite the bullet and use... *gulp*... Microsoft Edge.

I've ordered or watched all of their PPVs or free shows through B/R Live. For almost all of them I've had something come up where I can't watch it totally live and when I've wanted to watch the show it doesn't give me a way to start from the beginning and to watch the replay, it says that the replay will be available the following morning.

Oh yeah, one other tip, don't watch B/R Live on a Roku device. You can't pause or rewind.

For double or nothing, my cable company (Comcast) had some pretty clear wording about it being a 48 hour rental. I wasn’t sure if I could dvr it so I went with b/r live and I still have access to all the shows. Not stopping a good thing so that’s how I’ll order it.

Im going to the new japan show in San Jose so I’ll have to watch this after. I’m going to try to stay spoiler free but it will be interesting to see how many fans in attendance will be talking about full gear. I have a feeling a lot of people will be talking about it.

I think Jericho should go over for the same reasons. There's undoubtedly going to be some kind of fuck finish and then you can spend the next however long for Cody trying to find a loophole to get another shot if you really need to put the belt on him at some point.

That video was full of stuff we've seen but the way it was put together will be great to bring everybody up to speed.  I'm sending that out to those I know who may have any interest to see if that gets them to check it out.  I thought PnP looked like babyfaces with their segment and the message they were giving.  So while they're in Inner Circle it made me want to root for them than I initially thought, just not sure if that was their intent though.

When I emailed them before DoN I asked about that option to start from the beginning.  They said it was an option if you jumped in late but I never had a chance to test that due to catching it the next day.  So if that's not the case then that's a bummer.

To be fair, it could just be a case of their app on Roku sucking that hard. I need to find my Fire Stick and try that instead.

I think there's more story if Cody loses.

He can either turn heel down the line when he breaks his promise on Kenny Omega or whoever the face champion might be.

Or the fans will force him back into the title picture like when Macho Man lost to Warrior, but then had to come back to beat the shit out of Jake Roberts. He can say he won't challenge for the belt again, but if the fans want it bad enough he "can't not listen".

Regardless, I'm going to fucking watch it. That goddamn promo sold me.
