The Senators only needed 2 periods to confirm they still suck and blow at the same time.

Chytil and Kravtsov starting the year in Hartford for some ludicrous reason. And another season without a captain.

Is there any reason why the Canucks did not open the season at home vs LA (Their first ever game) in honor of the 50th anniversary? Sabres open up tonight in Pittsburgh, which is where we played our first ever game (and won 2-1) and that had to be intentional by the schedule maker.

This probably will be an accurate representation of the Rangers season

Man, the LA Kings are real bad. Oilers absolutely gifted them 4 goals and it still wasn't enough to win.

Having Mike Smith as a #1 goalie is absolutely going to be a wild, wild adventure.

Game was over the second this happened:

No way we lose after Sabretooth broke out the repel from the KBA he hasn't done in years.

And this was the greatest moment in human history:

Right after this Jack scored.

After opening the season with a 5-3 win on the road against Nashville, thanks to a dominating performance by the Larkin/Bertuzzi/Mantha line, Detroit followed up with an exciting 4-3 win over Dallas at home. Mantha played the game of his life with 4 goals, including the winner with less than a minute left. Maybe, just maybe, he'll finally start showing up every night instead of only half. He's a 40-goal scorer if he does.

The first couple weeks always have funky goaltending, but I don't think even that can explain away how bad Winnipeg's blue line looks right now.

I am at a game where James Fucking Neill scored 4 goals. Seriously.

I am getting a massive kick out of nerds tweeting at Oilers fans "well we will see who won the trade in a few months", no bitch, Lucic had 6 goals all of last season. Neal has 6 goals this week. This isn't rocket science math.

So this means when my friends in the Sabres Road Crew come here in December we are going to be treated to a 5 goal game by Vlad Sobotka right????

Hockey is a game of inches as Detroit showed last night. They dominated Anaheim for 40 minutes, playing to a 1-1 tie. They scored to go up 2-1 early in the 3rd only to have it overturned because Anthony Mantha was offsides by maybe 2 inches. They hit like half a dozen posts*. And ended up losing 3-1. So close.

* - in one sequence Filip Hronek hit the post twice and then scored, all in the span of about 10 seconds.

This is very close to what happened to Toronto against the blues the other night.  Except they were up 2-1 in the third when they had their goal called back (also for an offsides by about an inch or two. Hit at least 4 posts. Meanwhile the Blues score twice and steal the win.

It was beautiful.

Yeah, that happening to Toronto - or, even better, Boston - is glorious.

McDavid has 9 points and honestly I don't even think he's shaken off the rust. His hands haven't quite caught up again yet. It's actually stupid how good he is.

Make that 10 points.  Yeah, he's decent.

Detroit got a bit of a monkey off their back with their first regulation win in Montreal since Abraham Lincoln was in office, winning 4-2.  Hometown boy Anthony Mantha scored again - 6 goals in 4 games for him.  Since mid-March, he's leading the NHL in scoring.  He also resisted getting into a fight last night, which is a good thing.  He's had his season derailed the last two years by injuries in fights.  He needs to leave that mess to somebody else*.  Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi also continued their excellent play.  This all won't hold I'm sure - Detroit's ghastly blueline group will eventually regress to the norm - but it's fun for the moment.

* - Detroit doesn't really have anybody else.  Montreal had one or two guys running around a bit last night that needed to be straightened out and Detroit doesn't have anybody on the roster that'll do that other than Mantha.  Jonathan Ericsson occasionally fights but he's injured.  Justin Abdelkader used to fight once in awhile, too, but no more.  The guy that would probably fill that role is Dylan McIlrath but he's in the minors and not likely coming up anytime soon.
